City Beauty Youth Rejuvenating Cleanser and IT Cosmetics Confidence In A Cleanser

As I mentioned earlier this week, The Body Shop Drops of Youth Gentle Foaming Cleanser (discussed here) seems to have been discontinued. Sadly, I finished up my bottle. So it was time to move on. I decided to try two cleansers that I had waiting in the wings in my stash:

I may have mentioned this a while ago, but lately my skin is super dry. I am not sure that the after-market humidifier that was added to my gas heating system is working. The semi-annual checkup for my system is happening next week, so I’ll find out what’s going on soon. I have my fingers crossed that I won’t have to replace it. It seems like everything I own is breaking!

At any rate, I have been trying to figure out the right combination of products to use for my ultra-dry skin now to help revive it. I’m not sure I’ve cracked the code yet.

City Beauty Youth Rejuvenating Cleanser

City Beauty sent me their Youth Rejuvenating Cleanser quite a while ago to try out for review. But I wanted to keep going with the TBS Gentle Foaming Cleanser so I could use it up. When I used up the TBS cleanser a few weeks ago, I decided to try the City Beauty cleanser.

It came in sturdy attractive outer packaging that had stylized designs of a city on it. However, I believe that City Beauty has been switching over to more eco-friendly packaging lately, packaging that’s recyclable and much less of it.

The product itself comes in a luxe looking heavy plastic pump bottle that’s black with gold accents. The bottom of the bottle is clear so you can both see the beautiful red cleansing gel and, importantly, you can see when you’re almost out of cleanser. Very helpful.

I apply about a quarter’s worth or less of the red cleansing gel to my face.

It has a sweet scent that we used to call “tutti fruiti” back in the day. To me, the scent is pleasant. The gel doesn’t foam up or turn color. I sometimes use my Foreo Luna along with it, but other times I just work it with my hands and remove it with a sponge. My face feels clean but not stripped.

Here’s what the City Beauty website says about Youth Rejuvenating Cleanser:

“This luxurious cleanser gently exfoliates without irritation, removes excess oils without overdrying, and cleans pores without stripping the skin barrier– leaving your skin silky smooth. The soothing formula is designed to calm puffiness, redness, and irritation – all while maintaining your skin’s natural pH balance.”

I really like that it is a pH balanced cleanser. And it’s also beneficial that it’s a multitasker.

The product was formulated for all skin types. It is vegan, gluten-free and cruelty-free. It does not contain soy, alcohol, formaldehyde, parabens, or GMOs.

So does it work for me with my super-dry skin? Because my skin is so dry and so uncomfortable right now, I do not use City Beauty Youth Rejuvenating Cleanser twice a day or even everyday. I don’t have “excess oils” and I don’t have clogged pores. Right now, my major issue is adding hydration while keeping my skin exfoliated. I find that if I use this product 3 times a week, it exfoliates my skin. How do I know? After using Youth Rejuvenating Cleanser, it I apply The Body Shop Drops of Youth Exfoliating Mask no dead skin comes off.

For the winter when my skin is extra dry, using City Beauty Youth Rejuvenating Cleanser 2-3 times a week is enough for me. In the summer, I will revisit this cleanser and use it more often.

City Beauty Youth Rejuvenating Cleanser contains 5 fl. oz./150 ml and is priced at $38. City Beauty has free shipping. The brand has a 60 day no questions asked guarantee.

IT Cosmetics Confidence In A Cleanser

travel size yellow tube of IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser

Little by little, I am trying products in the IT Cosmetics “Confidence” product line. I received a travel size tube (0.6 fl. oz.) of Confidence In A Cleanser through either Sephora, Dermstore or LovelySkin, I don’t remember which.

I was eager to give this cleanser a try to see what it might do for my winter dry skin. First, the cleanser itself is a pale yellow liqui-cream, and it gives the impression of being very gentle.

Again, I apply about a quarter’s worth and as I massage the cleanser onto my wet skin for 30 seconds (per the directions) with either my fingers or with my Foreo Luna, it turns creamy white. Then I rinse with a sponge. My skin feels soft and lightly hydrated afterwards.

For those who are concerned with fragrance, Confidence In A Cleanser has the very faintest clean scent. It is not formulated with added fragrance though it gets its light scent from the oils in the product.

Although the website refers to “balanced skin”, it does not give the pH of the cleanser and they would not give the pH to a consumer who asked a question about the pH. I wonder why?

Confidence In A Cleanser is a hydrating cleanser and skin serum in one. Here are the benefits according to the IT Cosmetics website:

  • Revolutionary one-step, ultra-hydrating cleansing serum—perfect for even the most sensitive skin!
  • Sulfate-free, soap-free, ophthalmologist-tested cleanser gently melts away dirt, oil and even long-wear eye makeup
  • Proprietary Anti-Aging Armour™ Rejuvenating Concentrate immerses your skin in moisture
  • Super ceramide complex, plus anti-aging collagen, hyaluronic acid and colloidal oatmeal

I just noticed above that the cleanser could be used to remove eye makeup. I haven’t done that because of my recent eye surgery, and truthfully, I wouldn’t do it anyway. I use a cleanser as a second cleanse after using micellar water to remove my makeup.

Confidence In A Cleanser is sold in two sizes: 1.7 fl. oz./50 ml for $12 and 5.0 fl. oz./148 ml for $28.

I like this cleanser a lot for my extra dry skin. It feels hydrated and comfortable after I use it.

After I finish my travel size tube, will I buy a full size tube? Probably not now because I have a gigantic tube of First Aid Beauty cream cleanser waiting in the wings. I also wish the ingredient list wasn’t quite so long 😉

    1. Sorry to hear that your skin is drier than usual too – I wonder what it is other than turning on the indoor heat. You’re right, it’s definitely going to get colder. Ugh

  6. What an interesting color! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a red cleanser before. It looks so festive too!

    1. Yes, the red cleanser is certainly unique. I’m not sure what the red is linked to, but yes, it is festive!

  7. I like the fact that the City Beauty cleanser is red, that’s so cool. My favorite cleanser depends on what I’m doing. If I’m doing a gentle cleanse I love Bioderma. If I’m doing an end of the day, sunscreen on but no makeup, then I use my Pixi Rose Cleanser. If I’m removing makeup I double cleanse and use the Purity cleanser.

I wasn’t expecting it to actually be red like the bottle teased! Thats different and kinda fun!

    1. I was really surprised when I saw that the cleanser itself is red. Most cleansers are clear or white or blue, but never red. I think it’s cool too!
