ColourPop Lux Lipstick and Super Shock Blush

I Bought This Informational Link

It’s been a while since I’ve bought anything from ColourPop, but it was time. Actually, I wanted to try the new No Filter Complexion Foundation, but more on that another time. Here’s what I bought this time.

Lux Lipstick Creme Formula

I’ve been wanting to try ColourPop lipsticks for a while now, but I was waiting till I would buy enough to get the free shipping. I have tried ColourPop liquid lipsticks and even the sticks, and they’re a no-go for me. Much too drying. So I was very excited when I heard that ColourPop had a new creme formula lipstick, Lux Lipstick. They’ve been available for some time, and now they have a matte version of Lux. But I figured I should stick with the creme formula. ColourPop describes the creme Lux lipsticks like this:

“Enriched with our LUX Blend of hydrating butters, this creamy-matte, long wearing lipstick glides on the lips for intense pigmentation in shades made for every skin tone.”

Aha! So it’s a cream-matte hybrid rather than a true cream.

The formula uses a blend of Acai, Jojoba and Pomegranate Seed butters for hydration and natural antioxidants to protect lips from environmental damage.

Before I talk about the shades and what it’s like to wear it, I’d like to offer a word or two about the tube and bullet. I looooove the look of this lipstick. You know that I’m a fan of rose gold, and I love the rose gold metal tubes adorned with stars. The bullet is also embossed with stars. So pretty, so cute. Very old school Hollywood starlet. And all for $7!

The lipsticks seem to have the faintest sweet scent that is most not discernible, and they have no taste.

I chose a neutral and a red, Lay Over and On Repeat respectively.

Lay Over

Lay Over is described as a medium rosy beige on the ColourPop website. That sounded perfect for me. In the photos online, it definitely looks like a neutral pink. But when I opened the tube, I got nervous. It looks much browner than it looked online. Browns make me look like death. Luckily, Lay Over has just barely enough pink in it for it to be wearable for me, though I would prefer a little more pink in the shade. In the reviews, some reviewers call it an MLBB shade, and on some people maybe it is. If you like true neutrals, you’d like this shade.

The formula feels creamy, and it goes on smoothly. It covers completely in one swipe. It looks matte-ish on my lips, but not like a dry matte.

On me, the formula for Lay Over is only slightly hydrating. Actually, it’s neither hydrating nor drying when it’s on my lips. It stays on for several hours unless I eat a meal.

3.5 g/0.12 oz. $7

Ingredients: Octyldodecanol, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Polyethylene, Hydrated Silica, Flavor, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Tocopherol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Butter, Euterpe Olerecea Pulp Powder, Punica Granatum Seed Oil, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

On Repeat

The CP website described On Repeat as an orange-red. I would say red-orange rather than orange-red. To me, it’s a medium red with warm undertones. I love the shade! It’s the kind of red that you don’t need a special occasion or a nighttime event to wear it.

The formula, however, feels different from Lay Over. Although it goes on smoothly, I wouldn’t describe it as creamy. It covers in one swipe, but if I want to intensify the color, I’ll put on a second coat. When first applied, it feels neither hydrating nor drying. But after a while, like even a half hour, on my dry lips, it starts to feel a bit drying most likely because it has more pigment than Lay Over. Nevertheless, it is nowhere near as drying as a traditional matte lipstick. I couldn’t wear this shade everyday, but I can wear it a couple of times a week.

The color stays on for a few hours if I don’t eat a meal, but unlike a real liquid matte, it does disappear after eating.

Super Shock Blush, Between The Sheets

I love the bouncy formula of the Super Shock Eyeshadow, so I decided it was high time for me to try the blush. I chose the shade, Between The Sheets. It’s labeled a “Best Seller”, so I thought that meant lots of people like it. I also thought that the shade that ColourPop describes as pink beige looks darker than most of the other blushes that I own and use on a regular basis.

When it arrived, this time I was right, it is a darker shade than I normally wear. To me, it looks plummy, but I like it. It’s more dramatic than my regular shades of pink or peach. Plus, it has a matte finish. Here’s a swatch with one swipe. I had put foundation on my arm coz I wanted to see the color so the skin on my arm looks a little weird.

For my dry skin, the Super Shock formula is just great to wear on my cheeks. The formula is buildable, but because this is a deeper shade, I usually apply one swipe with my finger and then blend it in with my fingers. CP suggests a flat blush brush for more color or a duo fiber brush for a more airbrushed look. Because it’s creamy-ish, I like using my fingers. It is completely weightless, and it lasts till I remove it. I’m very pleased with this blush. $8 for 4.2 g/0.15 oz.

Hydration/drying neutral to only a little bit drying sounds okay for a nice looking $7 lipstick. Actually most of us accept neutral from some of the more pricey brands, so for Lay Over, CP is right up there in terms of quality! I like it but I think I probably have several (and then some, lol) similar options already. Perusing the other shades though… I don’t think I have anything like “27” yet, so I might give that one a try in future.
I like the blush shade too. Right in my wheelhouse. I bet it looks fab on you! 😀

    1. Vavavavoom, 27 looks stunning on the model, and if your skin tone is similar to hers, it would be a definitely winner! I would assume that it would be a bit more drying like On Repeat because of the pigmentation but it’s not a shade you’d wear everyday. Hmmmm, would your work colleagues notice that one?? The blush shade is great. I strongly recommend it. I should do a look on the blog one of these days, and use it 🙂

I would hope that someone should notice that sort of lip colour! LOL
Even if they can’t see turquoise eyeliner…..
Maybe it’s a sign of the times. I mean, if someone at the grocery is wearing green lipstick while in line to buy yogurt, and even the lady who accepts your car at the airport valet lot has chrome eyeshadow…maybe my choices are just not out-there enough to register. Doesn’t justify the “but you don’t wear makeup” comments I’ve received (hellllooooo I wear makeup ALL THE TIME) but maybe my “makeup” is now normal enough to classify as natural?!? Things to ponder…. hahahahahahaahaha

        1. lol. Around these parts, green lipstick and chrome eyeshadow are still outside the norm. But I know what you mean 😀

          1. rach says:

Okay, you’ve got me there, lol. The green stuff still is not common and said young person was totally getting the side eye from just about everyone. But trends don’t just start out of nowhere. 😉

  2. Lay Over is very pretty. I’m looking forward to your take on the foundation – I’ve heard mixed reviews about it.

    1. I’m waiting to get two other foundation shades since I chose a shade that is too light for me. I will review them all soon. I haven’t read any of the reviews coz I just wanted to try it first. I only wore it once when I got it but the color was so wrong for me that I didn’t pay too much attention to the formula though it felt like it might be good for my dry skin.

  3. I am also anxious to read about the foundation. I don’t even think I realized CP had a cream type blush. You know I’m a fan of that formula. The colors of all 3 of these look different on your hand than in the container. That’s the only thing I dislike about online buying.

    1. I dislike online buying for any makeup that I haven’t seen in person. It always looks so different in person than on the screen. The nude Lay Low is nice but I wouldn’t have bought that shade if I had seen it in person. The blush looks so dark in the container that I got worried, but applying it with my fingers or with a duo fiber gives me good control so it doesn’t look too dark. I’m really happy with it. I chose the wrong shade of foundation – too light, so I may send it to you if you would like it because I think it might suit you better. Because I was one of the very first to buy the new foundation and I made a mistake choosing the color, CP is actually sending me another shade or two to try out. I want to wait to see them before I give away the shade Fair 20, but I thought of you immediately.

  4. I STILL haven’t tried ColourPop! One day I will!

  5. These are so pretty! I really love Lay Over! It is so pretty on you! While I would prefer for the formula moisturizing– it is great that it isn’t drying!

  6. Can you believe I still have NONE of the Lux lippies?? With my lipstick addiction?? I need On Repeat in my life!

    1. LOL, I think you’ll love the Lux lippies when you get around to them! They’re so affordable and so lovely!

  7. On Repeat is so pretty!

I got a few of the Lux Lipsticks the last time I ordered. I think they’re great.

    1. So nice to hear from you, Rachel. I hope that things will calm down for you and you’ll have a peaceful summer. I’m glad to hear that you like the Lux Lipsticks too. I’m wondering which shades you bought…did you go for any of the blues, greens, black shades or a more traditional one?

  8. I still haven’t tried this brand! I really love the look of the lippies especially!

  9. Kristina says:

That blush color is gorgeous! Now I really want to try some of their LUX lipsticks.

    1. You are the lipstick queen so you definitely must try the Lux lippies one of these days. The blush really is beautiful, much prettier than my swatch
