Continuing Adventures with Olive and June Mani System: Wild & Free

I Bought This, Affiliate Links

Since I was so impressed with my first Olive and June mani that lasted 10 days before there was a chip, I decided to buy some more Olive and June nail polish. I went with the Summer 2021 Mini Set for $34. The Summer Mini Set included 7 summery shades (darn, I seem to have lost Grape Soda, one of the best shades ) plus a mini bottle of the fantastic Topcoat, small bottles with 6.5 ml/0.22 fl. oz.

Minis are fine with me. I can’t remember when I used up a full size bottle of nail polish. And a little more than $4 per mini bottle is fair. Here’s what the Summer Mini Set looks like. I’ve still got 5 more shades in the set to try and 6 if I can find the missing shade!

A week ago, I did my mani following the Olive and June Mani System steps:

  1. remove any old polish
  2. shape nails with emery board (I used my glass file)
  3. buff with buffer
  4. apply two coats of polish
  5. apply one coat of Topcoat
  6. apply Drying Drops
  7. apply cuticle oil supposedly every night (I don’t know why I can’t remember to do that especially with the easy to use cuticle oil stick from Olive and June!)
  8. apply another coat of Topcoat every day (I gave up after day 4).

I decided to use the pretty, light pinky-peach shade, Wild & Free. I have no idea why O and J describe it as a “fierce coral”. It’s demure, not fierce, and it is definitely not coral which is orange-red. Definitely a summer shade that looks good with a tan.

Even wearing reading glasses, I have a hard time seeing close so I think I got the polish too close to my cuticles where it pooled a bit, but it was still not hard to apply Olive and June polish. It has a relatively thick consistency, and the brush is wide and easy to use. The brush in the mini bottles is the same brush as in the full size.

I didn’t realize that the outer cap also comes off of the mini-bottles like it does the full size bottles,

and I could have used the big plastic holder, The Poppy, on top of the cap to make application with my non-dominant hand easier. Oh well, next time.

Any way, today, one week after I applied Wild & Free, I finally got a chip on the index finger of my right hand. After an entire week! The rest of my nails are fine. But truth be told, I am ready to move on to a new polish color.

I honestly can’t believe that Olive and June is actually as good as it says it is. If you have an issue with nail polish that chips a few days after application, I believe it is definitely worthwhile to try the Olive and June Mani System. O and J doesn’t have the vast variety of shades of Zoya or fancy holos and duo chromes like the indie brands, but in terms of ease of application and lastingness, I haven’t found anything better. It’s amazing for me not to have to worry about getting chips in my polish all the time. Whew.

Thank you to whomever purchased an Olive and June Mani System at 20% off with my referral code because thanks to you, I received a full size bottle of the bold pink-raspberry shade, Wild Orchid

I also bought a full size bottle of the bright red shade, CV, that will be fun to try for fall and winter.

  2. Other than a misleading description everything else seems perfect. Minis are great, especially if they have the full size brush, because we change our minds so often. I think this company is a winning one.
