Copper LOTD Trying Out Thrive Cosmetics Buildable Blur CC Cream SPF 35

The same lovely blogger who sent me the stunning KBShimmer Stay Toasty My Friends multichrome nail polish (reviewed and swatched here) also included Thrive Cosmetics Buildable Blur CC Cream SPF 35 in the shade Light. She is fairer skinned than I am, so she was hoping this would be a match for me.

My skin tone is somewhere between Fair and Light, so Fair-Light is really the best match for me in the brands that carry that middle shade, but I can often get away with either Fair or Light. That’s the situation with the shade Light from Thrive’s Buildable Blur CC Cream. Though it’s a little too dark for me now, it will work better next summer when I have a bit of a tan. The biggest difference, however, is that my skin has cool undertones (I have visible blue veins, ugh) and my skin is pinkish. Thrive Buildable Blur in Light is decidedly warm and yellow, IMO, though the website described it has having Neutral undertones. I beg to differ.

Thrive Buildable Blur CC Cream, Light

Nevertheless, because it’s definitely getting to be wintry around here, I can get away with a different skin tone because most of the rest of my skin is covered up with clothes, lol. If I buy a tube for myself in the future, I will choose, Fair-Light with Neutral undertones since they don’t have one with cool except in Fair which looks too pale for me. Thrive Buildable Blur comes in 18 shades from pale to deep.

Regardless of the lack of a perfect shade match, let me tell you about Thrive Buildable Blur CC Cream because it is a very nice foundation. Most of the time when I wear BB or CC cream, I wear moisturizer and primer underneath it as if it were a traditional foundation. But that defeats the whole purpose of BB/CC cream, right? Thrive Buildable Blur is so creamy and rich that I definitely can get away without moisturizer and primer.

Here’s how the Thrive website describes Buildable Blur:

“Buildable Blur CC Cream™ smooths and diffuses the look of fine lines, texture, dark spots and pores with an effortless, naturally flawless finish that always looks like skin. Powered by Blur Effect Technology™ and Smart Pigment Technology™, this lightweight CC Cream’s color-adapting coverage visibly diminishes redness and discoloration while adjusting beautifully to your skin tone to perfect and protect your complexion.”

And they aren’t kidding about buildable. I dot it on my face, and then use an Artis-style brush to blend it in. I would say out of the tube, it provides medium coverage. Applying just a bit more to my dark spots eliminates the need for concealer. Impressive.

The formula also contains vitamin C to help diminish dark spots over time. It really is a skincare/foundation hybrid!

Once the CC cream is on, my skin feels so incredibly soft and smooth. It contains flaxseed extract with omega-3 proteins that improve the texture over time while it softens skin. The formula also has dimethicone (so if that ingredient doesn’t agree with your skin, you should pass on this one), and I am sure that is responsible for the satiny, smooth feel. I know we’re not supposed to be touching our faces these days, but I can’t get over how nice Thrive Buildable Blur feels on my skin.

On my dry skin, Thrive CC Cream is very long lasting and stays on till I remove it.

Another plus is that it has SPF 35 built into the formula using a combination of physical and chemical sunscreen, so this really is a put it on and go product. Yes!

Thrive Buildable Blur SPA 35 comes in an airless pump tube. It contains 1.08 fl. oz./32 ml and is priced at $38. It’s vegan and cruelty-free. It’s also free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and synthetic fragrance. It is sold on the Thrive Cosmetics website where you can get a 20% discount now.

Even though I scarcely left the house today because it was so windy and cold, I put on Thrive Buildable Blur CC Cream to try it out yet again. Since I had on foundation, I decided I may as well put on the rest of my face while I was at it.

I decided to go for a copper look since my skin tone was slightly warmer than usual with the Thrive CC Cream.

Here’s what I used:

Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize Cream Shadow, Star Gold & butterLONDON Glazen Blush Gelee, Flicker

So this is my stay at home look for today. At least I didn’t have to worry about wearing a mask over my makeup, lol.

Does Thrive Buildable Blur CC Cream SPF 35 sound like it would suit you?

Good morning Allison! Lovely look. I will put this on my “check it out list”. Right now I am alternating between IT CC cream and Clinique. I meant to tell you yesterday how much I love the Muddled Plum shower gel that you talked about yesterday.

    1. Sandy, which shade of IT CC Cream do you wear? I have an unopened Light that I will never get to, but I am thinking you may be Fair. LMK. On a different topic, I bought my last bottles of Muddled Plum at both Olivela.com and Saks 5th Ave online, at a significant discount. If you’re in the mood for another one, it’s worth a look 🙂

  2. I love moisturizing formulas, also ones that are buildable since most day I enjoy light coverage, but sometime I want a little more. SOund like a good choice to me as long as they have my color. I love how your makeup turned out!

    1. Thank you, Claudia! This was a surprisingly good CC cream, especially for the colder weather.

  3. I absolutely LOVE this coppery look on you, Allison! STUNNING!

    1. Thank you xoxo

  4. Thrive’s philosophy is what keeps me buying from them. I love how philanthropic they are. The foundation has expanded their color offerings since they didn’t have that many options when I bought one. The whole look on you is great.

    1. Thank you, and thank you again!

  5. Gabrielle says:

That CC Cream is NOT a neutral undertone! Love that ABH gloss on you! Just lovely!

Oh! Did you make your Ipsy selections?

    1. Thank you, Gabrielle! I love the ABH opaque glosses, and Caramel is my fave. I did make my Ipsy selections, and I will stick it out through December, and then I may be done for a while. It seems that they are focusing on affordable made in China makeup and they’ve given up on the pricey skincare that I really liked. I am not particularly enthusiastic about my November choices, though I can’t remember what they were! You??? PS I am still looking for the Trolls palette, and I may give up for now. I still haven’t gone to the post office, but I will let you know when I do xo

      1. Gabrielle says:

I agree. Ipsy is dropping the ball. Though I did select the Murad Retinol Cream and since it costs more than the box price, I at least feel like there’s a point to it all this month.

        1. Oh, the Murad Retinol Cream wasn’t an option for me. I personalized my box just a little while after I got the email. Boo

          1. Gabrielle says:

That stinks like a dead fish! I am so sorry you didn’t get that option! I should be able to mail your palette to you either this weekend or next.

          2. Gabrielle says:

I cancelled my Ipsy for next month and decided to splurge on the December Boxwalla. It’s got amazing skincare items. You might want to check it out.

          3. I have been reading about Lola’s Boxwalla boxes for years now, and have always wanted to try one. That was smart of you to pass on Ipsy to try the pricier Boxwalla. I just got my Ipsy Plus bag, and truth be told, I don’t remember choosing most of these, lol. I haven’t opened the boxes yet. You’ll see what I got soon. 😉

          4. Gabrielle says:

I got my Ipsy today too. I look forward to comparing notes with you.

          5. Oh, I misread your comment! I thought you skipped November, but you skipped December. Got it!

  6. Rats, it’s too bad there is dimethicone in it! I’ve heard a lot of good things about this brand. Your look is lovely btw!

  7. That is a nice shade of CC cream! I like that it leans more yellow because usually BB and CC creams tend to be more pinkish.

    1. Sadly, the yellow undertone doesn’t suit my pinkish skin. But I know it would work for many others.

  8. I have the shade Fair and have to mix it to create a match for me. Definitely not neutral in my eyes.
