CoverGirl truBlend Liquid Makeup

A few weeks ago, there was a huge free-standing display in my little local CVS. It took up a lot of real estate in the small store so it really got my attention. The display even included testers, a novelty in the drugstore but a must for finding a good match in foundation.

Enter CoverGirl truBlend Liquid Makeup, and a lot of choice in liquid foundation shades: 21 shades in fact. There is something for everyone is this new product introduction that is a reformulation of the old truBlend. The free-standing display has gone away, and CG truBlend has been incorporated into the wall display as a permanent product, (it doesn’t look as huge now).

I Bought This

A year or so ago, my friend Kim asked for a liquid foundation recommendation. I think I suggested a Lancome product at the time. Now, I would say Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Liquid Foundation for my prestige recco and CoverGirl truBlend Liquid Makeup for my drugstore brand.

CoverGirl has introduced a slew of shades for just about every skin tone from fair to dark, from cool to neutral to warm with a double number system. The levels are Light, Medium and Dark.

I went with level 1, Light that seemed to be cooler tones, and I chose i2, Classic Ivory. I’m quite impressed with it. The shade is a good match.

The foundation is easy to apply with fingers or brush (I still haven’t tried one of those teardrop shaped foundation sponges yet). CoverGirl says it provides light/medium coverage which kinda surprised me. On me, it provides good medium-full coverage, meaning I need concealer on my sun damage spots on my face. But on my hand, my sun damage is completely covered.

I think, in spite of what CG says, most women would get almost full-coverage from this foundation unless you have marked discoloration or scarring. It’s light as a feather on my skin. I love the feel of it. I’d say it provides a satin, not quite matte, finish. It lasts about 10 hours so you would make it through the work day.

CoverGirl truBlend Liquid Makeup comes in a very substantial glass bottle (I don’t think it would break even if I dropped it on the tile floor because it’s so thick) with a pump dispenser. The pump dispense works fine for me every time. There were some consumer complaints about the dispenser in the old version, so it looks like they fixed it. The bottle is much more appealing looking than the old truBlend. You get 1 fl. oz./30 ml, and it looks like it will last a long time because a little goes a long way.

It has dimethicone in it, so you may not need primer. And if you’re sensitive to dimethicone and if you avoid parabens, you may want to pass on this product. I have been reading more about parabens, and I am generally OK with it.

CoverGirl truBlend Liquid Makeup ingredients

At CVS, the price was $10.49, and I think it’s least expensive at Walmart, about $8.50. It’s also sold at Walgreens, Ulta, Amazon, and drugstore.com. It’s made in the US from imported parts.

I’m quite impressed with this foundation as you can probably tell.

Have you noticed the new CoverGirl truBlend in your stores? Have you tried it yet? Do you have a favorite liquid foundation you’d like to tell us about?

I also wanted to mention that I’ll be launching a new GIVEAWAY on the blog on Wednesday, April 16. So be sure to stop by and enter! 🙂

  6. I haven’t seen the display for this foundation at my local drug stores (must be coming soon). I recently tossed my CG 3 in 1 foundation .. it just wasn’t for me, but I did love the pump (quite rare on drugstore foundations).

Apologies that my ‘blog’ asked for your password info, but this just happened to me over at Jezz Dallas’ blog, http://jezzdallasmakeup.blogspot.com/ .. I think it’s just a log in info for Google+

Thanks, Monica. I tried your commenting and had no trouble tonight.

I think this is the first CoverGirl foundation I’ve ever tried. I was amazed that I like it as much as I do. I was quite impressed with their shade range. They had cool-toned choices for me, which is rare, and there were plenty of darker shades for women of all skin tones. And the testers were clean (actually I think I was either the first or the only one to try out the pump testers in the shades I was considering).

But foundation is such a personal choice. I think everyone is always on the hunt.

  8. This foundation looks great. I should give it a whirl. I am on the hunt for a lighter weight, every day foundation, as I find my usual, Revlon ColorStay to be a bit heavy.

  11. I haven’t used CG but I know a lot of makeup artists favor it as an everyday drugstore brand, do you think someone with dry skin would do well with this formula ? I am a little on the dry side, depends on the day. I prime with moisturizer.

I have very, very dry skin, Norah, and it works well for me. I apply it over moisturizer and primer since I’m older than you are, and my skin doesn’t feel or look dry at all. And lucky for me, it doesn’t settle into lines!

  25. I haven’t tried this one. I can’t believe how flawlessly it covered the spots on your hand, and still didn’t ‘look’ like makeup! I will admit that I’m a little overwhelmed by all the choices, but it’s a good thing. I’ll have to see if my Walmart or CVS has the testers! (and get yourself a foundation blender! I like the Real Techniques one for $7 at Ulta!)

  29. I saw the new makeup in stores but didn’t pick it up! I’ve actually considered their other new foundation (the one that’s a combo foundation and primer) instead!
Mai recently posted…Beauty Blog Coalition May Day Sweepstakes! My Profile

    1. Allison says:

Mai, I’m not sure which one that is, the combo: is it the 3-in-1 foundation? I was mesmerized by the huge display and testers for the truBlend, and that alone got me to try it. The lightweight feel is what I like best about it, and decent coverage that’s great for everyday 🙂

  30. I am so going to make this my next drug store foundation I try. Do you think it is as good as the Covergirl 3-in-1 Outlast Foundation? I used that one up and I loved it, but the woes of being a beauty junkie, I have been trying out different BB and CC creams for a new blog post on my blog and using my Estee Double Wear mixed with the Lorac Breakthrough Performance Anit-Aging Foundation when I want a full face makeup. Now who is hurting whose pocket book????? I will have to admit your Covergirl Tru Blend is less expensive than my NARSissit Cheek Kit….LOL!

    1. Allison says:

Beth, I’m cracking up reading your comment! So funny. I’m pretty much the same way. I think the Estee Lauder Double Wear is a really nice foundation. I haven’t had to mix it with anything else lol but everyone is different. Now, I have not tried CG 3-in-1. In fact, I have never used a CG foundation, but since they are owned by P&G, they have a ton of money to put into research so I believe their products are good quality. Most days, I wear CC cream usually either IT Cosmetics or Lumene. And I have Estee Lauder and Dr. Jart Premium BB creams that I also wear. So, I hate to tell you to buy the CG truBlend because you have so many that you like already. However, I love the lightweight feel of the CG and somedays, it’s just what I’m in the mood for!

  31. everytime I tried this product it seemed off for my skin tone. I really wanted it to work.

    1. Allison says:

What a shame, Melody. With so many color choices, you would hope there would be a good match. Sorry it disappointed you 🙁

  32. I need to pick this up next time I’m at the drugstore and try it out~

    1. Allison says:

Check it out when you’re there, Kristyn, especially if they have testers 🙂
