Deborah Lippman HSN Holiday Nail Lacquer Set

Don’t stay up too late watching HSN! It’s dangerous. All of a sudden, everything looks so appealing.

Last December, I heard the siren song of Deborah Lippmann, manicurist to the stars, hawking a limited edition holiday set of “deluxe” size nail polish, “specially created for HSN”. She and the HSN hostess demonstrated it for about a half hour, and I found myself watching the entire thing! What’s wrong with this picture?!

You know where this is going. I bought the set for $39.95.

I Bought This

Deborah Lippman Holiday LE, HSN

Deborah Lippmann LE Holiday Set, HSN

The LE was made up of 12 deluxe size (0.27 fl.oz.; bigger than a mini, smaller than regular, but just the right size for me) polishes, including four treatment products: base coat, top coat, cuticle oil, and cuticle remover (top row). I really love the super-shiny top coat.

I’ve used most of the shades so far, and I like them. They are very shiny, and the colors are gorgeous. The only downside is that they don’t last me a week. I usually get about 5 days before they chip or show wear at the tips, and that’s with wearing gloves to wash dishes.

Here are four of my favorites:

I love the nude shade, Fashion. It’s almost an exact match with my skin tone. I like the girly pink, Groove Is In The Heart, and the gorgeous green glitter, Mermaid’s Dream. Single Ladies, the deep burgundy, is one of my favorite dark shades of all time.

The set also includes Sarah Smile, the light peachy shade (second row, second one in) that many TV presenters including TV chefs wear to make their nails look clean and pretty. That shade may have been created for Sarah Jessica Parker, one of Lippmann’s long-time clients.

Here’s what Sephora says about the DL polish:

“All Deborah Lippmann fashion nail colors are infused with treatment benefits from ingredients such as biotin, green tea extract, and aucoumea. These formulas are long-lasting, dry quickly, and apply evenly while high-quality pigments ensure eye-catching flash. Créme finish is smooth, glossy, and rich in color.”

Yes, I agree!

Deborah Lippman nail lacquer is sold at Ulta, Barney’s, Sephora, HSN, Nordstrom, the Dermstore, and on her own website. The brand has different limited editions all the time and at different retailers, usually with a smaller number of shades. The price for a regular size bottle (0.5 fl. oz.) is about $18. Nordstrom is selling a set of about 5 shades for $40, so $39.95 for the LE I bought really was a great price.

The brand is 5 free (I think that means no toluene, camphor, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, or phthalates), and it’s not tested on animals.

Have you tried Deborah Lippman polishes?  Have you ever been hooked by HSN or QVC? What did you buy?

  1. You know, when you think about it – they’re the same size as Julep polishes, and it works out to about $3.33 per bottle. That’s not horrible.

Mermaid’s Dream is such a winner.

I agree with you on both counts, Karen! I think they are the perfect size, because I rarely, like never actually, finish up a bottle of nail polish. And $3.33 is a great price. I love Mermaid’s Dream, too, and I know I’ll wear it a lot this summer 🙂

  2. Ahhh I’m glad we don’t have anything like HSN and QVC here. Otherwise, I’m sure they’d take a huge toll on my wallet! It’s an AMAZING set though, especially considering the price! I’d be happy if all nail polishes come in bottles like these. I prefer to own many shades, instead of a lot of one shade!

I agree, Gio! Even though the polish doesn’t last quite as long as I would like without a little wear, I still love it.

  4. I’ve never tried DL polishes but I think she has one called Happy Birthday that I’ve always wanted to pick up and try.

  8. .thanx allison, nice site for chossing nail palis.Lets find which Nontoxic Nail Polish is suitable for you.

    1. Allison says:

Thanks for your comment, Anjelia. Deborah Lippmann polishes are 5-free: free of toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor or DBP (Dibutyl Phthalate). The brand does no animal testing. The nail polish is enriched with Biotin, Green Tea Extract. I am satisfied with that. There are nontoxic polishes that are out there. Piggy Polish & Lullaby Paints are nice, nontoxic polishes for babies and children that you may want to try if that’s what you’re looking for. The wonderful thing about beauty products these days are that they are so many different brands and types, and we can all choose what suits each of us best 🙂

Anjelia, I came upon a great article on Redbook magazine: a list of 10 wonderful non-toxic nail polish brands. Zoya which is 5-free is on the list. You can add Deborah Lippmann polishes to the list, because it is 5-free too. Thought you might find it interesting reading: http://blog.zoya.com/Moment/Zoya+is+NonToxic+AND+Actually+Works!/?Moment=1266 or google Redbook 2013 non-toxic nail polish 🙂
