December 2018 Ipsy Glam Bag Plus: Is It Holiday Worthy?

A couple of weeks ago, I received my December Glam Bag Plus from Ipsy, but I had so many other posts to get up that I didn’t get around to this one. But I’m happy to get to write about it now.

The Glam Bag Plus doesn’t have a theme, and after this month, it’s no longer going to have a tri-monthly makeup bag either. I got an email last week saying that instead of the bag, they’ll put the money into better products. If that is indeed the case, then fine. We’ll see what happens. I actually really like the clutch bag they sent out in December.

It has navy blue matte paillettes on one side that flip over to become silver. It’s usable as an evening bag, and I think it’s pretty. Although I gave away a lot of my small monthly makeup bags from the regular Ipsy subscription, I still have quite a few. Frankly, they have been handy over the years to take to the beach, on vacation, to hold my Kindle, and for my cell phone. But I guess I have enough.

So what did I get from Ipsy Plus this month?

  • F.A.R.A.H. Rose Gold Face Brush Trio ($40): I got a couple of FARAH eye makeup brushes in past regular Ipsy bags, and I liked them, but they were not nearly as glam as these three pretties. The vegan bristles are super soft, densely packed, and I think they’ll be lovely to use. There’s a large powder brush that may encourage me to wear powder, a duo fiber/stippling brush and a contour brush.  Love ’em!
  • Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk Gentle formula ($20): Although Klorane used to be my favorite haircare brand to bring back from Europe, I don’t use dry shampoo. I’ll gift this to a friend.
  • 111Skin Vitamin C Brightening Booster ($180 – that makes me suspicious, like is it about to expire?): I actually need a Vitamin C serum, but I will try following the directions and adding a couple of drops to my moisturizer. Or maybe I’ll use it as a straight-out serum. 111Skin is an excellent skincare brand, so I hope I will like this.
  • Estee Lauder Pure Color Love Lipstick, shade Strapless ($22.50): I have been wanting to try EL Pure Color Love Lipstick since it came out, so I was very happy to get this. The shade, Strapless, a peachy-mauve, is perfect for me. The formula contains pomegranate, mango and açaí oils so it goes on like a breeze and feels hydrating. Yet it’s completely lightweight. The product card says it smells like a cupcake, but maybe my sense of smell is disappearing (actually not), but I don’t smell it which is fine with me.

  • Smith & Cult Book of Eyes Quad Palette, shade Interview ($44): Smith & Cult makes the most luxe makeup. The brand definitely deserves more attention than it gets. The silver palette with two thumb-prints on the top is stunningly beautiful. It reminds me of compacts that women would bring to a nightclub in the 1950s. Inside, there is a large very usable mirror and four raised pans with buttery shadows that give off no powder whatsoever. The shades in the Interview palette that I got are pink matte, lavender matte, mauve shimmer, and deep raisin-purple duo chrome. I love this!

I’m thrilled with the December Ipsy Glam Bag Plus, and I would say yes, it’s holiday worthy! I’ll use 4 of the 5 full sized items as well as the cute clutch bag. The EL Pure Color lippie and the Smith & Cult Quad are my favorites, though I love the FARAH rose gold brush trio too. I haven’t tried the 111Skin Vitamin C Booster yet, but it is something that I needed. Good job this month, Ipsy!

  1. Ooooo! This is pretty impressive! I believe 111Skin is a really good brand or it sounds really familiar to me.

    1. 111Skin was started by a Harley St. derm in London. It’s an expensive brand! Tried the serum last night and so far, so good!

  2. That is a seriously impressive Ipsy bag! The brushes, palette and lipstick are AMAZING!

    1. I’m pretty darn pleased!

Have stopped all my subscriptions but I sure do like this array of products.

    1. It was a very good subbie box this month, for sure. But you were wise to pull the plug. If I weren’t a blogger, I wouldn’t keep it up, but it gives me something to write about and products that I probably wouldn’t be able to buy.

  4. Ehmkay Nails says:

Wow a $180 product in the bag? Not sure about that! But I quit all beauty bags.

  5. That is a great bag! I would have liked this one.

If the serum is clear to a very pale yellow (unless it has added colour) the Vit. C is fine. If it is dark yellow (like dehydrated, morning pee) or brown and smells “off” it’s toast. Don’t put it on your flower face.

    1. The serum is clear! It has no discernible scent. Thank goodness! I was really pleased with this box 🙂

  6. Kathryne says:

Those brushes look glamorous. The eyeshadow palette has some nice colors in it!

    1. I am pretty darn pleased with everything (except maybe the dry shampoo 😉

  7. I was surprised at the cost of the serum. I hope it works well. My favorite item in the bag is the Smith & Cult palette. I’m excited to try this out. My blog partner is addicted to dry shampoo so she’s getting the Klorane the next time I see her. This was a fun package to open.

    1. I wondered if the lot was inching toward its expiration date? At $180, it seems very extravagant! I adore the Smith & Cult palette – the case of the compact alone was enough for me!

  8. Oh yes, totally worth it, with those gorgeous brushes

  9. That does look like a pretty shade of lipstick! I also love the shades of that palette but I’m not a fan of the layout of the pans, so much empty space. I can’t wait to see if the quality gets better since they’re removing the bag or if it do what Ipsy usually does and start to go downhill after a bit.

  10. definitely looks like a worthwhile bag….especially the Smith & Cult eye quad. I’ve never used anything from them but nail polish. The quad is beautiful.

  11. Wow what a steal!! I love those EL lipsticks, they are perfect for warmer months.
