Derma E Arnica Warming Sore Muscle Rub

On Saturday, Jeff and I went for a bike ride on the Rail Trail. The foliage is just really getting going, but the maple trees are in all their glory. The Rail Trail has a lot of wet land area, and the colorful reflections in the ponds and water are absolutely stunning. It’s a real New England fall. Here’s a sneak peek for those of you who don’t have fall foliage.

When I got on my trusty steed (that’s what Jeff calls his bike), I felt pretty darn good and took off at a decent clip. But after about a half mile or so, the trail is a slight but looooooong hill, and I slowed down a bit and moved to a lower gear. Then I got a break when the trail went downhill for about a mile or so. But when the trail started back uphill again, my legs were so sore. I don’t know what it was. Usually, if I start out slow at that first long hill, I perk up and get much faster as I go along. Jeff kept asking me what was wrong, and I said I didn’t know.

At just after the 5 mile mark, I agreed that we should turn around. Usually I would want to go to the end of the line another 0.6 mile down the trail, but not this time. Going back, I was even slower on the uphills than I was going out. Weird. We ended up biking 10.25 miles that is nothing for Jeff. He always rides in a much higher gear when he rides with me so he gets a decent workout, but on Saturday, it wasn’t much exercise for him. I was exhausted, however.

On Saturday night, all of a sudden my left knee felt sore and as if something popped out of place. I must have strained something when I was peddling so hard. I tried applying CBD balm when I got into bed. That usually helps, but when I woke up on Sunday, it felt a little worse. I took ibuprofen, and that took the edge off.

I decided to try something else on Sunday night. Derma E had sent me a tube of their “new and improved” Arnica Warming Sore Muscle Rub when they sent me the shea butter body lotions (reviewed here).

Arnica is a yellow flower and plant related to the daisy, grown in the northern hemisphere, well known in Montana and in Canada.

The actives in arnica are used to decrease swelling, ease the pain of osteoarthritis, heal bruises, and decrease swelling after surgery. Arnica increases circulation at the site to help the body heal itself.

Derma E Arnica Warming Sore Muscle Rub contains:

  • arnica flower extract tones, tingles and conditions skin; may help decrease swelling and ease pain
  • hemp seed moisturizes and conditions skin
  • peppermint oil cools and soothes.

The white cream is lightweight, non-greasy and fast-absorbing. So it doesn’t stain clothes or bedsheets.

The peppermint oil has a relatively strong scent initially, but it fades over time. The peppermint oil also gives my sore knee a feeling of warmth, and it does feel soothing. Applied after icing my knee, it really feels good!

Although Derma E Arnica Warming Sore Muscle Rub is not a curative, it definitely provides helpful temporary relief. I hope that resting my knee, icing it and ibuprofen, along with Derma E Arnica will help me get back on my feet again quickly.

Derma E Arnica Warming Sore Muscle Rub comes in a plastic tube containing 4 oz., and it’s priced around $13.99. or less depending on where you buy it. It’s sold on the Derma E website as well as at other online and local retailers, e.g. Vitacost where it’s now priced at $11.19. On Amazon, it’s currently $11.02. Like all Derma E products, it is cruelty-free, vegan, and gluten-free.

  2. Hi, Allison – I love this brand too. This combination of the soothing homeopathic arnica with pain-relieving hemp and cooling mint is quite a winning combination! Sounds great…I’ll have to remember it once I use up all those pain relief creams I collected from my recent painful event. Thanks! – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com
