Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Powder SPF 30

Though August is coming to an end next week, there’s still plenty of hot weather on tap even here in New England. That means lots of time to spend outdoors.

I always have an issue with reapplying sunscreen to my face. When I’m wearing makeup, adding more sunscreen on top doesn’t make sense if I’m using a chemical sunscreen that’s supposed to be applied to bare skin. Or if it’s a mineral cream or lotion sunscreen, it messes up my makeup.

Over the past few years, I found that applying a mineral powder sunscreen with the built-in brush whether I’m on the beach or on the go, is the best way to keep my face protected after the initial application of usually lotion sunscreen.

I’ve tried a few brands of mineral powder sunscreen in the past. To be honest, they’re all good, and from what I can tell, they’re all pretty much the same. Some brands have different shades of powder to choose from, and others use a translucent powder that is supposed to work for most skin tones.

Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Powder SPF 30

I didn’t know that Derma E had a mineral powder sunscreen, so I was pleasantly surprised when I received this one to try out.

Derma E Mineral Powder SPF 30 comes in one medium toned shade. Though it might be too dark for those with very fair skin and too light for those with deep skin, it will probably work for those of us in between. The shade works fine for my slightly summer golden skin.

The SPF 30 rating is good, though an SPF 50 rating would be even better. When I go to the beach or go jogging in the summer, I prefer SPF 50. Maybe next year they’ll launch an SPF 50?

How to Use the Applicator

I was surprised when I read the reviews that a few women seemed to have trouble figuring out the applicator. It’s the same applicator as the other brands I’ve tried, and I found it to be pretty intuitive.

However, Derma E put together the short video below in case you have any questions about how to use the applicator:

Retail Info

Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Powder SPF contains 0.14 oz. of sunscreen powder. On the Derma E website and at Ulta, the regular price is $23.95. A couple of reviewers on the website were complaining that they thought it didn’t contain enough product for the price. I had to laugh because:

  1. I have never used up a mineral powder sunscreen
  2. Colorescience that contains 0.15 oz. is priced at about $55, almost twice as expensive as the Derma E product and even Supergoop’s version is more.

Nevertheless right now, you can get 20% off on the Derma E website with the code BFFSPF. And there are other online retailers that are selling it for less, like Amazon and iHerb.

I like this mineral powder sunscreen, and I use it a lot.
