A few weeks ago, just in the nick of time, Derma E sent me an unexpected goody box. Inside were three best-selling products from their extensive Vitamin C collection:

  • Vitamin C Gentle Daily Cleansing Paste
  • Vitamin C Concentrated Serum
  • Vitamin C Bright Eyes Hydro Gel Patches.

Because my post-cataract surgery eyes are still feeling quite dry, I am holding off for a while before I test drive the Bright Eyes Hydro Gel Patches.

Vitamin C Gentle Daily Cleansing Paste

tube of Derma E Vitamin C Gentle Daily Cleansing Paste

Although I think “paste” is kind of an unfortunate name for this lovely Vitamin C cleanser from Derma E, whatever. Underneath the name on the tube is “Golden Turmeric Ancient Rice”.

The Vitamin C Cleansing Paste itself is a peachy shade and the little scrubbies suspended in the cream are tiny rice particles. Usually, I am not a fan of scrubs because they often irritate my semi-sensitive skin. But this one is different, the particles are teeny tiny, and they don’t hurt my skin.

I spread a little more than a quarter size amount of the cream on my face and make circles on my skin. Sometimes I use my Foreo for a little extra cleansing. It doesn’t foam, but stays creamy. I don’t detect a scent when I use it.

I rinse it off with lukewarm water with a face cloth or with a sponge. My skin feels clean but soft, moisturized with a nice glow.

Because my skin is dry, I use this cleanser about 3 times a week. For those with oily or combination skin, it makes an excellent daily cleanser.

Here’s how Derma E describes the key ingredients and their function:

Golden Turmeric to reduce the appearance of blemishes and enhance the skin’s natural glow. Ancient Rice to gently remove dirt and dead skin cells while nourishing the skin. Formulated with nourishing, brightening Ancient Rice and calming, evening Turmeric to create a perfect creamy polishing paste to help promote skin clarity and reduce the appearance of uneven skin tone, revealing a radiant and beautiful complexion.”

What initially confounded me was why this cleanser is part of the Vitamin C collection? I wondered if maybe turmeric was a source of vitamin C, and sure enough it is, though it also has other beneficial nutrients within. Here’s how LiveScience describes turmeric:

“Turmeric contains more than 300 naturally occurring components including beta-carotene, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), calcium, flavonoids, fibers, iron, niacin, potassium, zinc, and other nutrients.”

Derma E Vitamin C Gentle Daily Cleansing Paste comes in a handy plastic tube containing 4 oz./113 g. The MSRP is $13.95.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Glycerin (Vegetable Derived), Sodium Methyl Cococyl Taurate, Potassium Hydroxide, Myristic Acid, Behenic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Lauric Acid, Kaolin, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Powder, Stearic Acid, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Titanium Dioxide, Lauryl Lactyl Lactate, Bentonite, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Iron Oxide, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vegetable Derived), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Echinacea Purpurea Root Extract, Echinacea Purpurea Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Echinacea Angustifolia Root Extract, Phenoxyethanol.

Vitamin C Concentrated Serum

Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum in the full size pump bottle

In a post during the holidays, I wrote that I received a handy Derma E skincare travel set that included a small Derma E Vitamin C Serum. After using the products in the makeup bag, I became enamored of the Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum because it has a key benefit that some of the other vitamin C serums that I have tried don’t have: it comes in a pump bottle that helps protect the efficacy of the vitamin C serum that loses its effectiveness when exposed to air, heat or light. Many of the C serums that I have tried come with droppers. Though I don’t think a dropper is terrible, I think that a pump delivery system provides just a little more safety. That said, I am a bit surprised that Derma E put the full size version of Vitamin C Concentrated Serum in a clear plastic bottle, especially since the travel size is in an opaque white plastic bottle. Fortunately, the label covers about 98% of the bottle, and the label just leaves a small side opening so that you can see how much is left as you use it up.

I was so happy to get this full size bottle of Vitamin C Concentrated Serum because I had used up the travel size mini at the end of February. I had been planning on buying the full size, so I was thankful to receive this PR sample.

The serum is cloudy, and it has what I consider a nice herbal scent that is imperceptible on my skin. It soaks in and dries quickly on my skin. I use it daily in the morning after cleansing and before sunscreen.

In addition to increasing radiance and helping to even skin tone, Vitamin C Concentrated Serum with hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and Vitamin E has some important additional benefits:

  • hydration
  • antioxidants that guard against UV damage and environmental stressors
  • brightening and retexturizing
  • encourages the formation of collagen.

I love this stuff. Even though it doesn’t smell like vitamin C, Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum has become my favorite C serum. If you in the market for a new C serum, check out this one!

A full size pump bottle of Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum contains 2 fl. oz./60 ml and is priced at $24.50. One pump covers my entire face and neck, so I think this bottle will last me a looooong time.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Glycerin (Vegetable Derived), Sodium Methyl Cococyl Taurate, Potassium Hydroxide, Myristic Acid, Behenic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Lauric Acid, Kaolin, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Powder, Stearic Acid, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Titanium Dioxide, Lauryl Lactyl Lactate, Bentonite, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Iron Oxide, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vegetable Derived), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Echinacea Purpurea Root Extract, Echinacea Purpurea Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Echinacea Angustifolia Root Extract, Phenoxyethanol.

Derma E Brand

To be honest, Derma E is truly one of the best, if not THE best, skincare bargain. Its products are cruelty-free, gluten-free, soy-free, GMO-free, vegan, and free of parabens, petrolatum and sulfates. The packaging is recyclable. They believe in and use windmills, too 😉

You can buy the Derma E Vitamin C collection on the Derma E website, at Ulta, Lovelyskin.com, Target, Walgreens, iherb.com, Vitacost.com and about a million other retailers. Also I have seen many Derma E products at Whole Foods.
