DIBS MultiPurpose Status Sticks

PR Samples, Affiliate Links

DIBS Beauty is short for Desert Island Beauty Status. It’s a relatively new makeup brand based in Austin, TX that was launched in 2020 by founder, Courtney Shields, and co-founder, Jeffrey Lee. The management team is made up of women who appear to be in their 30s whose skin tones represent a good range of shades.

In 2022, the brand won the Cosmopolitan Holy Grail Lipliner Beauty Award for their Liner & Definer slim pencil/crayon that comes in a slew of attractive shades. I haven’t gotten to try them yet, but now I want to even more!

DIBS Beauty Background and Mission

Here is Courtney’s précis of what the brand and their products are all about:

“The goal for DIBS Beauty is to be your everyday essentials, the products you can’t live without, and you can’t mess up. All our products are multi-use, blendable, and buildable. Our DIBS Beauty products are all made in the U.S. and are non-toxic, allergy-tested, and formulated without over 1400 controversial ingredients. Our eyeshadow palettes are formulated talc-free which was of major importance to us.”

In addition, I have found that their products are terrific for people who are on the go. Because they are either multipurpose or small, they’re smart to bring along for travel or to the gym, anywhere you want to limit what you’re carrying.

DIBS makeup is cruelty-free, Leaping Bunny certified, vegan, allergy tested, and dermatologist-tested. It’s free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates and many other potentially problematic ingredients.

DIBS Beauty Product Line

DIBS currently has a product line made up of 4 products. I was sent three of the four to try out. As I mentioned above, I don’t have the award winning Liner & Definer. The other three are:

  • Status Stick
  • Desert Island Duo
  • their brand new very travel friendly Eyeshadow Palettes.

I plan to review them one product at a time.

DIBS Beauty Status Sticks

Background

Speaking of award winners, Status Stick, a face-to-body highlighter, is the winner of Refinery29‘s Best Innovative Beauty Products of 2021, and it was nominated for Beauty Independent’s Product Launch 2022 Awards. Excellent!

This is how the Status Stick is described on the DIBS website:

“Shimmer and shine from head-to-toe. This award-winning, oversized highlighting stick for face and body adds a skin-enhancing sheen anywhere you want it. With nourishing skincare-level ingredients and just enough shimmer. Layer and stack for endless possibilities.”

Shades

Status Stick comes in three permanent shades, and I received all three (from left to right in the photo above):

The above swatches are just one pass of each highlighter on my dry arm.

In addition, there is a fourth shade in Rose Goals, a former limited edition, that has returned for another limited run.

When I was approached by DIBS to try their products, I wasn’t eager to get the Status Sticks because I don’t often use highlighters. But after I received them, I changed my tune 😉

Scent

The DIBS makeup has a yummy vanilla or caramel scent that you can smell especially if you have all the packages open like I did when I was photographing them. They smell delicious! But once the makeup is on my skin, I don’t smell the fragrance at all.

Key Skincare Ingredients

Here are some of the reasons that Status Sticks absolutely glide on and feel so good on my skin:

  • Mango Seed Butter – Lush, rich, nourishing, and smoothing—with skin-loving nutrients, Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids, and Vitamins A, C, and E for a non-comedogenic, buttery glide.
  • Skin Boosting Blend – Shea Butter, Avocado Oil, and Jojoba Oil up the moisture levels for soft, dewy skin without the slick.
  • Niacinamide – This coveted form of vitamin B3 contributes to a healthy moisture barrier, overall glow, and it can also help shrink pores.
How I’ve Been Using Them

I don’t usually wear highlighter, or not very often, because I usually prefer a more subtle look than most highlighters give. But the good news with the easy to apply, layer and blend DIBS Status Sticks is that I can control how much bling I put on. With DIBS Status Stick, if you want to look like a disco ball, you have to work at it, lol, and to me, that’s a good thing.

Initially, I didn’t know that you can use this multipurpose stick with safe, skin-loving ingredients almost anywhere! Today, I decided to play around with the three shades.

Since it’s summer and the temperature is 92 degrees with soupy humidity, I was going for a golden, beachy look with my hair in a pony tail. I decided to use the Status Sticks in lots of different ways:

  • High Road as a highlighter on my cheekbones, tip of my nose and on my chin
  • Unbothered Bronze as eyeshadow across the center of my lid
  • Good Life Gold as eyeshadow in the inner corners
  • Good Life to give a little sheen to my semi-matte neutral lipstick
  • High Road as a body highlighter on my arms and at the nape of my neck.

When I used the Status Sticks on my eyes, I used brushes to apply them. As highlighters, I applied them right from the rounded sticks and then blended them with my fingers. Easy peasy.

Plus, the DIBS Status Sticks provide long wearing color especially on my eyes and cheeks. I didn’t apply a lot to my arms, but they still have a pretty sheen hours later.

Here’s the other makeup that I used along with DIBS Status Sticks:

I think my favorite shades of the three are Good Life Gold and Unbothered Bronze because their colors show up best on my light skin. On me, High Road doesn’t show up as a color but has plenty of shine.

Some Melt Gel Liners on Sale!!

On a different subject, I got an email today that three of the fabulous limited edition gel liners from the Amor y Mariposas are priced at $8 each or 3 for $19. Of the three shades, the gold called Estrella (star) (the one I am wearing in the photo above) is the one I strongly recommend. The other two shades are Colibri, reflective emerald green, that is also gorgeous, and a raspberry pink called Concha Pigment Paint that I would not use near my eyes because I’m not certain that it is safe for use on eyes. The Melt gel liners are the absolute best: so easy to apply and they wear like iron. I couldn’t get the TikTok video to embed correctly, so go to the Melt website and check ’em out!
