Diva D’Or Derma Roller is a skincare tool, a handle with a rolling head that holds 540 titanium micro-needles 1.0 mm in length. When I was given the opportunity to try the Diva D’Or Derma Roller, I wasn’t sure I wanted to go through with it. I was the kid who hid in the bushes when it was time to go to the doctor for a booster shot. I was the adult who couldn’t wait for the acupuncture session to end. Why would I want to put needles on my face?
But actually, I was intrigued. The Diva D’Or Derma Roller is advertised with a slew of benefits:
- lighten acne scars and stretch marks
- fade dark spots
- fade fine lines and wrinkles
- lessen cellulite.
It’s also supposed to help eye pouches (no thank you!) and I guess stimulate the scalp to reverse hair loss.
Frankly, I’m skeptical about a lot of these potential benefits, but one promise that jumped out at me was that it would help skincare products like vitamin C serum and Hyaluronic Acid serum work better. I was also very curious about whether it would help break up or fade the serious dark spot on the my left temple. So I said, yes, send it to me.
So what does this thing feel like anyway?
Is it an instrument of torture? No, not at all.
What the heck does it feel like? Like a slight pin prick, maybe. Or a light scratch. Actually, it doesn’t hurt at all, but it feels, well, stimulating I guess. Very difficult to describe. It’s not unpleasant. It feels similar to something that was used on my skin during a facial that I had that may have been a laser or some kind of electric device??
How do you use it?
It’s a lightweight plastic roller handle with a purple metal roll with little titanium needles sticking out of it.
You just roll it lightly over your skin in a certain area in a particular manner: 4 times in each of 4 directions –
- 4 times up
- 4 times down
- 4 times diagonally in each direction.
Then, repeat the process on the next area you want to tackle. I do not use it all over my face but instead I concentrate on my problem areas: dark spots, the vertical wrinkles about my lip that didn’t used to be there, some fine lines on my upper cheeks that just showed up this winter. I would like to try it on my crow’s feet, but that seems too close to my delicate eye skin to risk it.
After I use it, the area looks a bit pink or red, but that goes away within a few minutes.
The instructions recommend using it every other day.
After use, apply vitamin C serum and moisturizer. Be sure to wash it after every use to keep it clean and free of bacteria.
So, does this crazy thing work?
Although I’ve had this for several weeks, I haven’t been home much of that time and I didn’t remember to bring it with me. I believe I’ve used it about 8-10 times. So I haven’t used it long enough to render a final verdict on its effectiveness. What I can say so far is that the texture of the dark spot has changed. It used to feel raised and thicker than the rest of my skin, and now it feels like the skin on the rest of my face. I’m hoping that’s a sign that something is happening. I have hope that if I use it regularly for several months, maybe the vitamin C serum will begin to help the dark spots fade some more.
I was curious about what others thought about the Diva D’Or Derma Roller so I read about 50 customer reviews. The users who were most satisfied claimed that the Diva D’Or Derma Roller was successful in decreasing the look of enlarged pores and in fading acne scars. Acne scars came up over and over as a success story.
So if you are an experimentalist and like to try new gadgets, give it a shot. The Diva D’Or Roller isn’t very expensive, it’s a nicely packaged, quality product. Over time, I’m hoping that it may just start to fade that big dark spot on my temple or even any of the smaller ones!
It’s sold on Amazon for $18.75. There are over 500 reviews of the product and 30 answered questions. Frankly, I was shocked that that many people have used it! After reading through a lot of them, I got a sense of what it can and can’t do.
Have you ever tried a derma roller or specifically the Diva D’Or Derma Roller? What do you think about it?
I have never tried a derma roller but have been very curious. I have always been afraid of them. Now that I am older my skin scars so easily. I imagined my face full of pin prick scars from such a device. lol For the price I am tempted to try. Thank you for the review.
Laura, I had never even heard of a derma roller before! I was shocked when it arrived. But it doesn’t hurt at all, thankfully. However, after using it, my skin does turn red for about 3 minutes or so then it goes back to normal. Luckily, no pin pricks remain behind. My big dark spot seems to be changing and lightening a bit since I started using it, but the other smaller dark spots and wrinkles haven’t changed as yet. I thought it was worth writing about at any rate!
I was that kid too! But it sounds really useful – my boyfriend has some acne scars and I may just have to make him a guinea pig for it for me!

It might be just the thing for him to try, Stephanie! Valentine’s Day gift??? 😉 It has changed the consistency of a large spot of sun damage that I have. I use vitamin C serum right afterwards and I’m hoping the combo will help fade that spot further. Thanks so much for your comment! I must check out your paella recipe 🙂
I’ve never heard of this! If you decide to keep using it, be sure to let us know what you think of it.

I’m still using it, and yes, one of my sun damage dark spots is beginning to change and get lighter. But the others don’t seem to be affected by it yet. I will report back!
Eeeep it does look painful. I loved my vaccines and booster shots (don’t even ask) but have always feared epilators and dentists so it sounds scary. But if it will reduce pores, acne scars and dark spots, I’ll put up with anything.
Renu recently posted…Marsala makeup look with Girlactik Lush eyeshadow
I’ll let you know how it goes, Renu. I’m sticking with it a few times a week before I apply vitamin C serum.
I haven’t used it, and I am not sure I will !
Hope you will see good results soon 🙂

I have a different brand and I am not sure if it really works! Its hard to tell since you are using products with it!
Eugenia recently posted…Blue Sultry Look with Bdellium Purple Bamboo Set
I’m using it, Eugenia, to see if it’ll help my serums work faster, better etc. I am curious to see if it will help my vitamin C serum fade my sun damage since it didn’t seem to be fading too much prior to using the derma roller. We’ll see!
I have a dermroller and love it!

I’m glad to hear it, Kendra! I was afraid I might be the only one who likes it, but the website sure had a lot of favorers!
Weird looking beauty tool, indeed. I’d love to read a follow up post on the results.
Yes, I’ll do it. I’m continuing to use it about every other day, and I’m hoping it, in conjunction with vitamin C serum, will help with my sun damage
I have one designed for the body (bigger needles, I believe) and I love using it with oil.

That’s a great use for it, Nidia! After applying my serum, I’ll try an oil with it 🙂
Yes, indeed!
That close photo of the roller looks scary , LOL

My husband does not know it yet but he just bought my an early V-Day gift. ha ha
OMG, Laura, I’m cracking up! The color should be great for Vday 😉 Let me know what you think!!!!
This is very interesting to read. Very cool that it helped the texture of your spot, but I’d be interested to read an updated review if you have the chance in a few months!
Jessica recently posted…EOTD with Japonesque Velvet Touch Eyeshadow
I’m hoping I will stick with it, Jessica. I use it about every other night. I would be thrilled if it would help all my sun damage disappear but I’ll settle for losing a spot or two!
I just can’t put anything with needles in my face. But it’s great that you’re seeing some results.

I’m irrationally afraid of needles, so even the thought of something like this freaks me out. 😉

I hear ya, Kristin! I was the same, but I think because I’m doing it to myself and I’m in control, it’s no big deal, at all.
I tried something similar before and it feels so weird and oddly relaxing at the same time. Couldn’t stick with it for the long run to see any results, though.

I was so surprised at the “oddly relaxing” part. Never would have expected it. I use it every other night, and I’m hoping for some significant results. A little bit so far, but we’ll see.
I have a friend who SWEARS by this. I’ve been tempted but I have a deep phobia of needles and I don’t think I could do this voluntarily lol.

I am deathly afraid of needles too. I detested acupuncture. But this, no problem!
Girlfriend, I’ve got a high pain tolerance but that thing looks too much like an epilator and I am forever scarred by those things. So….*runs for the hills*

Funny you should post on this tonight because I literally JUST tried one out for the first time tonight by a different brand. So far so good!

I hear ya. That has kept me from getting an epilator!
I’ve heard very mixed information on these from dermatologists. I’d need to do more research before really using one! I am using the pmd though which is said to do the same thing.
Miranda recently posted…New Nighttime Routine Beauty Must Haves from Neutrogena
Hmmm, interesting, Miranda. I should have looked into it before using, I guess. But I haven’t had an ill effects using it every other day for about a month. What’s a “pmd”?
Oh wow. I definitely don’t think I would be game enough to try this! I give you credit for doing it.

This is interesting… a little scary looking, but interesting! I’d love to hear what you think after using it more.
Bailey recently posted…This, That & Other Stuff Vol. 3
I have no problem using it, Bailey. My biggest dark spot is fading more since I started using it. Not gone, but fading more. I plan to keep at it!
Mine didn’t hurt too bad… but I know I did it quite light. I think the mm on mine is much larger and I don’t enjoy doing it… I don’t use on my face :/ You would think with my tattoos that I could handle this stuff. lol

Haha, Dani. In the photo, it looks much scarier than it really is. I did that for effect, lol. So far, it does seem to be helping fade my sun damage spots, the wrinkles not so much but I don’t think anything can make those go away at this point 😉
I’ve never used a derma roller but I’ve always been curious! But I admit I’ve had the same trepidations as you! The idea of sticking tiny needles in my face didn’t appeal to me, haha. But now I have to say…I am definitely intrigued!
Jodi recently posted…Lise Watier Escale Summer Collection 2016
Jodi, after using it a couple of times, I got used to it and it didn’t bother me at all. But I hate to admit that I’ve fallen off the wagon because it was yet another step in my already complex skincare routine. But now that you mention it, I think I’ll dig it out & keep it on my sink vanity so I don’t have an excuse not to use it!
