Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner: A Double-Edged Sword

For months, I gave up using spray toners because the spray hurt my post-surgical jaw. I continued to use my Innisfree Green Tea Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Toner that I still love. Because it’s a hydrating liquid without a spray, I can just splash it on and it feels so soft.

Recently, I decided to shop my stash, and I found Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner. A lovely woman who owned a local clothing, accessories and skincare boutique was kind enough to give me a bunch of Dr. Hauschka skincare products. Dr. Hauschka is a German natural brand that’s been around for quite a while.

Unfortunately, I haven’t liked most of the Dr. Hauschka skincare product that I’ve tried. And sadly, by and large, the Facial Toner is yet another fail, for me.

Before I describe what I don’t like, what I love love love about the Facial Toner is the spray. It is the finest, most delicate spray I have ever used. Because I love the spray bottle so much, I’ve been trying to open the bottle and replace the contents with a toner I like more, but I can’t open it. Boo! I will see if Jeff can get it open because I hate to throw out the heavy glass bottle that I could fill with something that suits me more.

What I dislike about the product is some of the ingredients. The toner contains alcohol, which is very surprising for a toner developed for “normal, dry and sensitive skin”. It actually hurts my skin, it feels like pin pricks. Ugh. It also contains witch hazel that I can tolerate, and it has natural fragrance that smells herbal to me.

Ingredients: Water, Anthyllis Vulneraria Extract, Alcohol, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel), Bark/Leaf Extract, Fragrance (Parfum)*, Linalool*, Citronellol*, Geraniol*, Limonene*, Citral*.

I know there are other women who are long time users of Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner and really enjoy it, so you may like it, too.

Here’s the description:

Our Facial Toner gives your skin an invigorating boost – in the morning and evening after cleansing, and whenever you like in between. The fine mist contains an unmistakable plant composition that fortifies and refreshes your complexion. A light mist of Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner is also suitable to set make-up and as an invigorating aftershave for men.

Have you ever tried Dr. Hauschka skincare products? What’s your opinion? Any faves?

I never could get past the fragrance of the brand.

    1. I agree, and the toner smells herbal but the alcohol, ugh

I’m not a fan of alcohol in toners. I find it drying. Thanks for the warning.

    1. No, me either. It literally hurt to use it!

If you really want to know a super gentle brand, try Youth to the People. I had a terrible reaction to a retinol cream once and YIKES was my skin inflamed and painful. Youth to the People was the only moisturizer I could use. That stuff is GENTLE.

    1. Thank you for the recommendation, Gabrielle! I haven’t tried Youth to the People yet. To be honest, I don’t usually have sensitive skin, but I was surprised how much the alcohol in that toner affected me!

My skin isn’t usually sensitive either. Just the one time with Lancer Retinol Serum. OUCH!

        1. Lancer is a new brand to me. I will be careful to avoid their retinol!
