My friend Kim asked me recently how long it took to wash, dry and style my hair. She and I both have thick, shoulder length or beyond hair. I told her that the entire process: shower, wash hair, dry hair, and style hair took me about an hour. That’s a long time. The part of the process that takes the most time is drying my hair.
I have a hairdryer that Jeff bought for me as my holiday gift at my request about 15 years ago. It’s a T3 ghd from Bespoke Labs, a tourmaline hairdryer that was state of the art back then. It cost about $200. I learned about it because the stylists at Vidal Sassoon Salon used it, and I liked it. It still works fine, so you could say that I don’t need a new hairdryer. But technology has changed. My trusty T3 ghd is kind of heavy. It takes me 15-20 minutes to dry my hair.
For at least a year, I have been looking at the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer. But the price, $399.99, has been an impediment. Last week, when Ulta announced a 20% off sale on hair care and hair tools including Dyson, I caved and bought it. Plus I got 5x Ulta points, not bad.
Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer comes with two nozzles that click on the device via a magnet.
The larger nozzle is for drying and the slimmer nozzle is for styling. There’s also a diffuser for those with curly hair. It also comes with a loop if you wish to hang the dryer and a pad on which to place the hairdryer after using it.
It has 3 speeds and 3 temperature settings on the face. It also has a cool setting underneath the on/off button on the handle. I’ve been using the second speed and the second heat setting. With my old T3, I used the highest heat and the second highest speed in order to get my thick, coarse hair to dry.
Although the Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer has a long handle that makes it seem rather large, it’s lightweight and easy to handle. It also isn’t as loud as my old hairdryer; not even close. If you interested in getting more info, click the link to the Dyson website.
How about drying time, you ask? Yesterday, it took me 4 minutes and 12 seconds. My old hairdryer took an average of 18 minutes, more than 4 times as long. I was blown away that in 4 minutes, my hair was dry.
Plus it was one of the most humid days of the year, and I didn’t have the A/C on. Another surprise was that my coarse hair was less frizzy and much smoother after I dried it than with my old dryer. Still not straight, but much better than usual.
I still used my flatiron to get it completely sleek and smooth, but it took less time to flatiron my hair than usual.
I am very impressed with the Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer. Even with 20% off, it was still an expensive item, but I hope that the fact that it takes so much less time, using less heat, that my hair will be healthier. And I will be saving time as well. No longer will I have to skip washing my hair because it takes so darn long to dry and style it. Yay!
The regular price of the Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer at Ulta is $399.99. It’s the same price at Bed Bath & Beyond – not sure if you can use their 20% coupons for Dyson but it’s worth checking. Don’t forget about using Rakuten (used to be Ebates) for additional cash back.
Have you considered the Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer? Do you own one?
I have a few friends who have this and love it. My sister got it recently and when I offered her a new hair dryer (an extra one that I have) she promptly said. “no thanks, I have a Dyson!” Enough said!

I bought one at 20% off too and it amazing how much faster it works. I get hot flashes when I dry my hair and they are pretty much eliminated with the Dyson.

That’s a great side benefit!!
I love dyson products and have wanted this dryer for a long time. BUT I cannot justify spending that much money on something that I would only use a couple a times a week. BUT if some one gave me one I would owe them big times 🙂
Gloria, you will think I’m crazy but I have had my Bespoke Labs T3 ghd for 15 years (and it still works) so I am hoping that the Dyson will last as long. The rate of inflation or price increase over the 15 year period was about 45% according to what I found online. So if I factor in the $200 that we paid back in ’04 with the 45% increase, it turns out to be about $290. I paid $320 for the Dyson, so I only paid about $30 more for this one 15 years later. How’s that for rationalization? But I completely understand what you mean! It took me about a year or so to finally decide to go for it 😉
I’ve been eyeing this but the price tag is a bit high. I’ll wait for the next deal and decide. I air-dry my hair 99.9% of the time though.
If you air dry your hair, you don’t need it!
Wow, talk about a time saver! I rarely ever blow dry my hair, but that could be because I haven’t upgraded my drier sine high school.
Wow!!! Your results are amazing!!! I’ve been wanting one but was worried if it was worth it….you’ve pushed me even closer to buying!
I thought about the Dyson hairdryer for more than a year, but it was my friend asking me how long it took to dry my hair coupled with the 20% sale and 5x points at Ulta that made me pull the trigger. I’m glad I did.
It’s spendy, but I’m a fan of quality products that will last a long time!
At $320, I sure hope that the Dyson lasts me almost forever!
Only 4 minutes?! I have been wanting this blow dryer for a long while now. It’s on the top of my list for Christmas.
Woo thats pretty great time wise!

The Dyson was sooooo worth the money for me!
