I admit it. I am challenged when it comes to doing a neat manicure. I’m getting better, but I’m far from perfect. I’ve got a shaky hand especially when I have to use my right hand, my non-dominant hand. That’s why I can’t do fancy nail art.
Enter Liquid Palisade Liquid Nail Tape.
Liquid Palisade Liquid Nail Tape has been on my wish list for ages. So I was thrilled when I was sent samples of the regular Liquid Palisade and the French manicure version of Liquid Palisade to try out.
Liquid Palisade – Regular Version
The regular version is what you use to paint on your cuticles, the skin around your nails, to prevent the polish from staining your skin. This is a time-saver for me because I hate taking a brush dipped into polish remover to clean up my cuticles. During my usual cleanup with a brush, I either can’t get in close enough or I get so close that the brush removes some of my nail polish. As a result, I usually skip it and hope that I can wash off the excess nail polish once it dries.
With Liquid Palisade, a fast-drying latex, I just brush it around the outside of my nail.
It dries very quickly and becomes rubbery – it’s latex after all! Then I paint my nails. Before my nails dry, I take a pair of tweezers, grab the edge of the Liquid Palisade, and pull it off. See that purple string? That’s it! It’s super easy to remove.
Now I’m left with a lovely clean edge. Wow! Love this stuff!! It’s a game changer for me and my nails.

Liquid Palisade – French Manicure Version
Next to try was the French Manicure version of Liquid Palisade. What’s the difference you ask? The size of the brush. The regular version has a thicker, wider brush (on the right) to create a larger barrier, and the French manicure version is a very thin brush since there’s no need to create such a big barrier.
Because I have such shaky hands, doing the French manicure was more difficult than the regular version. That’s just me. Still somewhat hopeless! Here’s a link to a video showing how easy the French tip process is for most people.
All you have to do is take the skinny brush and go back and forth across the nail tip making sure that you paint a Liquid Palisade “tail” on your skin so you can use that to pull off the dried Liquid Palisade with the tweezers before your polish dries.
Sounds easy, and for most people it is. But I got nervous and had a difficult time getting a straight line. What you can do is let the Liquid Palisade dry and then use an orange stick to move it into a straighter line, but my lines were so wiggly and wavy that they weren’t straightenable. 🙄
I ended up using a rubber band on my nail tip as a guide to paint on the Liquid Palisade.
I have used the rubber band trick in the past (see rubber band post here) as a guide to paint on my French manicure tip, but it was messy with getting nail polish on the rubber band. The band worked better with the rubbery Liquid Palisade that’s so easy to pull off with tweezers.
It still wasn’t quite perfect, but it did look a lot better than when I try a French manicure either free hand or using the rubber band technique on its own.

Liquid Palisade is manufactured by Kiesque, a Chicago-based company. Both versions are priced at $14, and they can be purchased on the Liquid Palisade website and at Sephora (not sure if it’s at my local Sephora but it is on the Sephora website). After trying Liquid Palisade, I know I can’t be without it. It has changed my life especially when I use deep colored nail polish!

I hope you find it at Sephora Inside JCPenney, Shannon. Truthfully, I’ve never seen Liquid Palisade inside my local Sephora. I have a feeling it may just be online, but then again, it could be one of the impulse purchase items as you stand in line at the cashier.

That’s really cool! The bottle looks a LOT like a liquid liner, so I’d definitely have to read the label before using it (otherwise–YIKES). But I like the idea. I can really see it coming in handy.

I have been wanting to try one of the ‘pro’ versions of latex for awhile. I use a hair glue in the same way, and it smells awful. So helpful when stamping and doing watermarble nail art, too!

That sounds like a good idea, Nidia, since you do manis so often! This is fine for me, and it doesn’t smell bad. In fact, I don’t remember it smelling at all. I’d like to attempt a water marble one of these days, and this will help me not make as big a mess, I hope!
My cuticles don’t grow at all anymore so I don’t have to worry about that. Loving that French mani though. It’s crazy how easy it is.

Thank you, Aleya! I used the wrong word; not really cuticles. When I paint my nails, polish gets on the skin surrounding my nails, especially when I use red or dark shades. It protects my skin from polish. I’m too lazy to go back afterwards to clean up my mistakes with a brush and polish remover. It’s quicker for me to throw this stuff on first and pull it off afterwards.
I’m so jealous. I keep seeing products like this and I want to try them so badly. Damn this allergy to latex! I wanna try! 🙁 This would make doing my nails a piece of cake.
That’s a shame. I know there are competitive products, but I don’t know what their key ingredients are. Can you do Elmer’s Glue?
This is a great idea! Isn’t it like using elmer’s glue or similar like I’ve seen people do? I think that would cost a lot less than the $14 price tag on this product.
I didn’t find that Elmer’s Glue worked as well. It’s runny and harder to apply, takes longer to dry and it can move around. The Liquid Palisade is pricey in comparison but it goes on so easily, dries instantly and comes off so easily. It’s a splurge but it’s dependable.
You have a beautiful nail shape. Hey, I like that brush on the wand!!! I have one that has a doe foot, which is hard to be accurate with. Very nice tutorial!
