Weekly Roundups

End of August 2021 Beauty Spotlight Team Weekly Roundup

Jeff got his favorite weather for his birthday: hot, sunny and definitely summer at its best. We went into Boston for his birthday dinner. Jeff pretty much always gets a prime steak for his birthday celebration, and by now we have hit almost all of the steak restaurants in Boston. But we found one we hadn’t tried yet, Davio’s, at the Seaport in Boston.

Davio’s Seaport won’t let you make a reservation for their outdoor seating area (what if it rains?), so I made a reservation for 7pm for indoors. It is so difficult to get a dinner reservation anywhere in the Boston area because the restaurants are so short staffed. So booking several weeks in advance, I still wanted to make sure that we had a reservation. Because it had been 96 degrees during the afternoon, I thought maybe we might prefer to eat indoors (though we haven’t been eating indoors at restaurants since the delta variant took over) because it was just too darn hot. But when we checked in at the front desk at the restaurant, it was so incredibly loud indoors – it was a cavernous room packed with people – that I asked if there were any tables available on their patio. Thankfully, there were.

We were seated at a table that overlooked the bay. There were boats of all kinds sailing by, and a large yacht parked in front of our seat. Boston’s Logan Airport was also across the bay, and we could watch the planes taking off and landing. Plus the people-watching was top notch. Lots of people strolling by: neighborhood people walking their dogs, couples out for a walk, tourists walking along the Seaport promenade taking photos. And the sunset was beautiful.

The food and the service were top notch. Jeff’s prime strip steak was cooked perfectly and so delicious. He ate every bite as well as his favorite appetizer, calamari. I was so stuffed after eating one and a half scrumptious popovers that I only managed to eat half of my veal medallions with gnocchi , asparagus and parmesan cream sauce. I downed one and a half Raspberry Lime Rickeys made with lime vodka, muddled raspberries, lime juice, and club sauce. So refreshing!

We had birthday cake at home for desert. I told the bakery to decorate the cake with flowers in warm colors, Jeff’s favorite, and they came through: red roses, sunflowers, and other assorted late summer flowers. And the cake itself was yummy!

Hopefully, it was a memorable evening for Jeff after a fun summer day.

Well, on to the purpose of this post: the last weekly roundup for the month of August from the Beauty Spotlight Team!
