Estee Lauder Mad Men See-Thru Blush Revisited

Sunday nights are not the same. I have a serious case of Mad Men withdrawal. I was shocked by the final episode. I didn’t see most of what happened coming, though probably I should have. Anyway, I can’t believe we have to wait till next year for the next season to start. Will Don change? Will he ever be happy? Will he go back to the agency? And what about Peggy? Will being Creative Director be enough for her? And what the heck will happen to that mysterious, smarmy Bob?

So Mad Men has been on my mind.

Back in March just before the new season of Mad Men, I wrote a post about the new Estée Lauder Mad Men Collection for 2013: Rich, Rich Lipstick in Pinkadelic, See-thru Blush and nail polish in Pink Paisley. After the launch, I went to Nordstrom with the intent to buy and came home empty. I tried out the products at the store. Although I loved the look of them in their cases and packaging, I decided the shades just didn’t suit me. Too pale & pastel-y.

I Bought This

Well, things change. I was very eager to buy the Estée Lauder Lilly Pulitzer Summer Getaway Gift at Lord & Taylor back in May. I didn’t have time to go to the store to pick out my purchase because I was about to leave on a business trip, and the nearest Lord & Taylor is about 30 miles away. So I ordered by phone. In order to get the free shipping, I dropped my plan to buy the retro Youth Dew Bath Oil (I prefer oils to perfume because the fragrance lasts longer on me) for $40, and I decided on the Mad Men See-Thru Blush for $50.  (It’s 0.27 oz and made in the U.S.). I just adored that Pucci-esque blue, yellow and white paisley-ish enameled compact. Frankly, I didn’t care so much about the blush, I just wanted the compact!

The blush is described on the box as “See-Thru Blush”. I tried it on at Nordstrom back in March, and I walked away because you could hardly see it on me. I revisited my old post where I described the blush as “almost sheer” with a slight “silver shimmer”.

Now that I own this blush, I have a better sense of it than I had trying it in the store. Although it is “almost sheer”, it is buildable.

In fact, once when I must have had a dewier than usual complexion from my BB cream or foundation, I applied it with the puff included with the compact, and I ended up with two dark pink spots on my cheeks. I had to go over them with a blush brush to try to remove some of the color. For a light wash of pink, I find using a blush brush much better than the puff. So depending on which applicator I use and how much I put on, the Mad Men blush can go from almost sheer to pink, deep pink, rose actually.

I still adore the compact. I doubt that I’ll need to re-apply this blush, however, because it can make its presence known. Instead, I can whip out the compact to re-apply my lipstick.

I’m not sure what the moral of this story is: Good things come to those who wait? As of late May, the Mad Men Collection was not sold out. If you’re still thinking about the gorgeous blush compact, give the Estée Lauder department at your local Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s or Lord & Taylor a call and ask what they still have in stock.

Have you purchased the Mad Men blush or any of the other products in the Mad Men Collection? Please comment. I’d love to find out what others think about these products. And any predictions on what will happen next season on Mad Men?

  1. The packaging is amazing! I haven’t swatched anything .. haven’t been to the mall in a while as going to the mall is fine, but coming home is a nightmare because it’s on the 8 west and that leads to a whole lotta beach traffic.

Yes, the packaging, aka the compact was what sold me, Monica! Bummer about the beach traffic. I don’t actually go to the mall myself these days unless it’s something I have to see in person or try on lol. Online rules!
