June is one of the busiest months of the year. High school graduations, proms, weddings, engagements, parties. It’s an almost never-ending social whirl! With so many events to attend including some that require travel, I’m always on the lookout for makeup that’s portable but also fabulous and fun to use.
Enter Paul & Joe’s Spring 2017 Eye Color Trios. First things first. Everything from Paul & Joe is the pinnacle of cuteness. I love the look of everything they make. 😛
Their three new Eye Color Trios that fit into three Limited Edition Compacts are adorable. There are three different patterns for the sturdy cardboard compacts to choose from:
- 013 a soft pastel floral design
- 014 sky blue birds in flight
- 015 geometric shapes, bold colors with almost abstract flowers.
I have two of the three: 013 and 015.
The compacts are truly compact! At 2.5 x 2.5 inches, they easily fit into an evening bag or into a pocket. And because they’re so cute, you won’t hesitate to pull them out in public even for a quick touchup (though unfortunately there’s no mirror).
As I mentioned above, there are three color palettes to choose from:
- 001 Mon Prince: soft, feminine shades
- 002 Mon Nounours (teddy bear): elegant, dramatic and romantic
- 003 Mon Coeur (heart): feminine pink shades.
I have Mon Prince and Mon Coeur. Each piece is purchased separately. You take the Eye Color Trio out of its plastic housing and just drop it right into the compact of your choice. Easy peasy.
To me, Mon Coeur with its pinks seems to be more of a daytime palette, and Mon Prince, an evening palette, though you can use them however you like. Each palette has two shimmer shades and a third shade is a satin that is almost but not quite matte. To be honest, I wish the third shades were a true matte so the trio would be more “complete”, and it would give the look a little more depth. Each trio comes with a little foam applicator that I’ve never used.
The shadows kick up a bit of dust if I really dig into them with my brush, but they don’t have any fallout when I apply them. The shades blend well. They feel very soft on my skin which makes sense when you look at the fab moisturizing ingredients in the shadows:
- jojoba oil: emollient
- orange flower water: moisturizer
- rosa rosxburghia fruit extract: moisturizer
- sodium hyaluronate: moisturizer
- white lily extract: prevents irritation.
The shadows are nicely pigmented over primer. The lightest shimmer shades in each of the trios that I have are quite light, but they do show up. The medium and the deep shades show up very well. They last over primer till I remove them.
BTW, Paul & Joe makeup has a distinct soft fragrance that I love. In fact, Paul & Joe’s pressed powder is my favorite because I adore the scent! If you swatch the shadows on your fingers, you can smell the fragrance though it is very faint.
Let me show you swatches from Mon Coeur and Mon Prince.
Mon Coeur:
- light rose gold shimmer
- rose pink shimmer
- deep raspberry pink satin
Mon Prince:
- pink shimmer
- lavender shimmer
- plum satin.
The first three shades are from Mon Coeur, and the second three shades are from Mon Prince.

I really enjoy Paul & Joe Beaute makeup, and though I may be outside of their traditional target audience, I’m sticking with them. They’re too cute for me to pass up! At this time of year, I think they would make absolutely adorable gifts for young women or teens to wear to graduation or prom or parties, don’t you think? So sweet!

I am a neutral girl at heart so I gravitate more towards the Mon Prince trio. I love how shimmery the shades are but I wish there’s one matte shade included.

Yes, you’re right, Shireen. I kept swatching the third shade in each trio to see if it was indeed a matte but it always seems to have a bit of gleam to it that made it look more satin than matte. I meant to mention that in the review so I just went back and put it in. Thank you for the reminder!

Thank you, Paula!! I kept swatching the third shade in each of the palettes to make sure that it wasn’t a matte shadow, but also it had a satiny gleam to it. Every palette should have at least one matte! But I do adore these. The cuteness factor is off the charts with Paul & Joe. Have you seen their lipsticks with bullets shaped like cat heads?
When I read about the bullets shaped like cat heads I just had to go over to see for myself. OMG!! They are really too cute! They really do have some really cute and cool items. I also saw that they had a gel foundation and that intrigues me.
Warm tones look very good on you Allison, these shadows seem like a good addition to the arsenal.

Love the pink eye look. I also love how cute the packaging is, and how sturdy and interesting they look; I think of Wet n’ Wild ColorIcon trios when I think of shadow trios and this packaging blows them away (I know they’re different price ranges but like I said, that’s what comes to mind lol!)
