I have red hair, and I live in the Boston suburbs so some people think I’m Irish. They think my last name – Cohen – is Cohan. Though I’m not Irish, I join the crowd around here and play one on Saint Patrick’s Day. I break out my Celtic’s jacket whether they’re winning or not (this year they’re not), and I think of my dad who gave it to me for my birthday more than 20 years ago.
I love the color green. I painted my great room green, my dining room has green floral wallpaper, and I use green a lot in decorating. But in my makeup, green doesn’t get much love. Although redheads are always paired up with green, I feel a little uncomfortable with green. But when the ladies of The Beauty Collaborative decided to get together and do St. Patrick’s Day looks, I thought why not.
So, here’s my St. Patrick’s Face of the Day.
I just had my hair recolored, and it is definitely super bright in the daylight. Yikes. In order to tone down the green, I’m wearing my green and blue poncho. The blue has a tempering effect. Though I still look pretty darn colorful!
And here are the products I used for the look.
FACE
- Estee Lauder DayWear BB Cream, Light
- em Cosmetics Contour/Highlight Stick, Light
- Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder, Porcelain
- Stila Cream Blush in Pink Pointsettia from the Under the Mistletoe Palette
EYES
- Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil: tightline – Black Velvet, lower lashline – Apathy
- Chella Highlighter Pencil, Ivory Lace, along the waterline and as concealer under eyes
- Benefit “The Rich Is Back” palette’s teal green shadow applied as eyeliner on the upper lid and as shadow in the V on the lid
- Lid: Maybelline Color Tattoo: Just Beige in the inner corner and Edgy Emerald in the center
- Shiseido Lash Curler
- L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Intenza Mascara
LIPS
- Jordana Easyliner Lipliner, Pink
- Jordana Modern Matte Lipstick, 01 Matte Bare
Are you gonna be wearin’ the green on Saint Paddy’s day? Do tell! Erin go bragh!

Beautiful look and your hair color looks really pretty!

Thank you, Leelo! I’m really red!!
Your hair color looks so good with your skin tone! How have I not tried the Estee Lauder BB cream yet??? Your skin looks great! Gorgeous look!

Thanks, Christine. I think I was meant to be a redhead rather than a blonde. You really should try Estee Lauder BB Cream. It gives great medium-full coverage, lasts me all day, and I love the mild fig scent when I apply it.
I love the green maybelline color tattoo I couldn’t find mine or that was what I was going to use!

Edgy Emerald is part of the regular collection, and it is usually always at CVS but maybe that’s because we’re in Irish Massachusetts and green is a staple shade here lol.
Pretty look. i like that it isn’t overly green.
Kim recently posted…How does Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara Compare to my HG Mascara?
Thanks, Kim. I didn’t want to go overboard, but I did want to use a bright green that’s associated with St. Pat’s Day
My father is Greek/Italian and my mom is an English/Irish mix. At a conference a former colleague (who is Irish, straight from Ireland) asked me about my last name which is Greek. He said that with my dark hair and green eyes, he said I looked more Irish than Greek .. I’ve never heard that before and found his observation quite interesting.
Anywhoo .. love your pretty look here .. I must check out that Maybelline Tattoo in Edgy Emerald 🙂
Monica.

I think you look very much “Black Irish” as they say around here with your dark hair, light skin and green eyes! The Edgy Emerald is a sea green shade that really is pretty. I don’t wear it that often, but I do like how this look came out so maybe as the weather turns springier, I’ll reach for it more often!
Your red hair is enviable!

Ha, I asked my stylist about doing strawberry-blonde after she did a Malibu to take some of the red color build-up out of my hair. She refused, reminding me that I don’t like my hair when it’s not super-bright like this, lol.
Your makeup is beautiful and I’m loving the intense red hair. Faaaaabulous!

Thank you so much, Erika 🙂 Thankfully, my red hair is not quite this red in person as it looks in the photo but I am still quite colorful 😉
Green looks great on you! Love your hair 😀

I’m in love with those Jordana mattes, tho I just tried a great Maybelline Color Sensational matte that’s lovely too. Thank you, Honey! I like the green much better than I thought I would. Maybe once it turns green around here instead of white, I’ll wear it more often. I’m gonna try the Milani Emerald 🙂
Red hair does suit you and I can see how people mistake you as Irish! <3 Luck o' the Irish to you! 😉

I’ve had red hair probably almost as long as you have been on earth, Shipra! I do love it, and I have had a variety of red shades. Actually my hair looks redder in the photos than in person, thank goodness!
I think green looks lovely on you! I have The Rich is Back Palette and I forgot all about it. Im going to have to dig it out again!

I haven’t used that palette very much myself. It has a beautiful gold shadow that I must start using. And the travel size They’re Real must go into the rotation too!
This is gorgeous! Greens look great on you!

Thank you so much, Gio! Maybe once it turns green outdoors instead of white, I will wear green shadow more often 🙂
Pretty lady and pretty photograph! I used to have a friend with red hair, ten years ago she moved. She was French Canadian. Anyways, the make up colors go well with your hair color. I like the lipstick color and the eye liner colors.
Thank you so much, Tamara! I really appreciate it. I don’t usually wear green shadow, as I mentioned, but maybe once it turns green outside instead of white, I’ll try wearing it more often. Thanks for taking the time to comment on my blogpost <3<3<3
Pretty! I think I have that same green Color Tattoo. I should dig it out.

I love how you’ve done your eyes. I have to look at Edgy Emerald; it seems such a pretty colour! Matte Bare is so pretty on you . If I had to pick one of those Jordana mattes, I would go for this shade!
Renu recently posted…MUA Spring Break Eyeshadow Palette swatches, review
Thank you, Renu! Edgy Emerald is a wonderful summer color, but I think it does look better than I thought it would. Once it starts to be green outdoors instead of white, I may try to wear it more often 🙂 And I do love Jordana Matte Bare, so pretty, so comfortable to wear
Pretty! I can’t wait to work green into my looks!

Really? Once the outdoors turns green instead of white around here, maybe I’ll try to wear green more often.
Because of my pale skin, curly dark hair, and my married name – Doherty, everyone thinks I’m Irish, too! lol. I’m actually Hispanic, but I’ll wear green anyway. I like green on you, you should consider trying different shades of green, maybe you’ll find one you like!

My go to for St. Patricks day is a pair of green pants!
I love that, Tess. If I could squeeze into my one pair of green pants, I’d do it too.
This look played so well with your skin tone, eye color and hair color. I have to admit your hair is so vibrant and fiery. I’m jealous!
Ashley recently posted…Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer
Thankfully, my hair isn’t that bright in person, Ashley. Somehow, it just photographs that way. But thank you. I think once it warms up outside and turns green again, I’ll try to use green shadow more often. It is kinda fun!
Don’t wait for the weather girl! If you love the green, wear it whenever you want. =)

I’m going to try your lipstick and lip liner, so pretty!
I was wondering where locals go for the best St. Patrick’s Day
dinner. I’m new to Boston. Any recs? Thanks!
Hi Valerie, thank you! Definitely check out those Jordana’s lippies at Walgreens. They are so worth it! I don’t go out to dinner usually for St. Paddy’s Day, but here’s a link to Boston.com’s reccos for Irish pubs in the Boston area: http://www.boston.com/ae/restaurants/gallery/stpatricksday/ Let me know if you find a good one!
Thank you so much Allison! We are going through the list now. I’m getting the lip products too. You’re the best!
Let me know if you discover a great new restaurant, Valerie! And I hope you enjoy the Jordana lippies as much as I do 🙂
Such a pretty look and greens are definitely your colors! I am planning a St Patrick’s Day makeup look for the blog too. I don’t wear a lot of green eyeshadows but when I do, I am always reminded how pretty it can look.
