February 2021 Ipsy Plus: Send Love

IMHO, the Christmas and Valentine’s subscription bags and boxes are supposed to be the best. But I was disappointed by Ipsy Plus’ holiday bag this year. It was a yawn. So I was hoping for much better with the Valentine’s Day bag.

Although when I chose my items online at the beginning of last month I wasn’t very excited, I ended up liking the the bag. And that includes the bright red drawstring bag with golden lips all over it – it’s cute. (But I still prefer makeup bags.)

One of the reasons I liked my bag and add-ons this month is that it was heavy on skincare products. By and large, I think that’s what Ipsy does best.

Here’s what I got in my February Send Love bag:

  • Dr. Brandt Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask: I was so delighted by the Dr. Brandt Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask, that I wrote about it last week (here). If you are looking for a lightweight, totally non-greasy, but still effective, hydrating sleeping mask, this is the one! $52
  • Maëlle Sunkissed Blush Palette: This was the big surprise in my bag. It was chosen for me, and the picture of it didn’t do it justice. The Maëlle Sunkissed Blush Palette is stunning to look at. So beautiful! The blushes are so buttery and pigmented. They are divine! Plus they are a combination of matte blushes and blush with built-in highlighter. I love it! $29, at that price, it’s a steal! The perfect gift for a blush lover.

  • Ahava Night Replenisher for Normal to Dry Skin: I am often on the fence about Ahava skincare products, so I wasn’t thrilled when I saw that this was one of the products picked for me. However, I ended up being delighted by the Night Replenisher. I like the tube and the fact that it is unscented. The white moisturizer is lightweight, sinks in quickly, and is very hydrating. Good surprise. $74 (I think that’s a little pricey, however, for this moisturizer!)
  • Tynt Dew Balm: I had absolutely no idea what this was supposed to be when I chose it. To be honest, I had a difficult time choosing my last two products for February because there was nothing I wanted. When I got this and read about it, it sounded like it was supposed to be a “highlighting balm”. So I applied it to my cheeks. No, no! My cheeks are now greasy. It’s really a lip balm. It has a nice applicator like the kind that you use around your eyes. I’ll use this on my lips. It’s a good lip balm. $28
  • Violet Voss Lip Gloss “In Love In Paris”: Again, I needed to choose something, so I picked the Violet Voss Lip Gloss because it’s a good brand. I love lip gloss, but I only wear opaque glosses. This one is a sparkly golden nude sheer gloss. It will go into the giveaway pile. $12

The value of my February Send Love bag was $195, and I paid $25. Clearly, it was worth it because I really like 3 of the 5 products, and I will use 4 of the 5. It was a better bag than I got in November, December or January, I think.

I liked both of my add-ones:

  • Laboratoires Filorga Hydra-Filler Moisturizer, travel size: I had never tried the Filorga skincare brand before, so for $3 I thought this was a good opportunity to try it. I like Filorga Hydra-Filler Moisturizer. It’s a rich moisturizer, jam-packed with hyaluronic acid, that’s greaseless. Good stuff. The full size jar is $59.

My skincare-heavy February Ipsy Plus bag with the gorgeous blush/highlighter palette turned out to be better than expected. I just picked my March items, and again, I am underwhelmed. I hope I will be surprised by it when it actually arrives. I know I seem to be whining every month, but each time I go to the website to switch to every other month, I can’t do it. I keep thinking I’ll miss out on something good. 😉

I’m so glad you wound up happier than you expected! Yay! I was really hoping that Ahava would live up to the mask from them that I love. I just made my selections for this month.

The blush palette really exceeded my expectations. On line, it didn’t look like much. But in person, I was in love. Did you get it? It was one of the 2 items chosen for me. And I loved the skincare this month including my add-ons. Did you get the regular Plus bag in February or the big X bag? I know you told me, but I forgot!

      1. Gabrielle says:

I got the X Bag, which also had a splendid blush – the Patrick Ta blush in She’s Passionate. It’s a gorgeous soft pink that looks completely natural on me. I also got the Huda Beauty RoseGold Remastered Eyeshadow palette! Between that and everything else, I am extremely happy with the X upgrade and am quite excited about May!
