Finally, I Can See: Conair Lighted x 12x Mirror

I had cataract surgery in November 2019 and February 2020. After being near-sighted since I was 11, I became far-sighted. I love the fact that I don’t have to wear glasses or contact lenses most of the time, and I can see the clock when I wake up. But not being able to see close up without reading glasses is still a bit of an issue for me. Plus, I can’t always wear readers when I’m trying to do something close up.

I Bought This

Like tweezing my eyebrows. Can you believe that I haven’t tweezed my brows in over a year? Maybe the only good thing about the pandemic (joke, there was nothing good about the pandemic.) was that I hardly saw anyone, and it didn’t matter that my eyebrows looked awful. But truth be told, I didn’t know how bad my brows really looked!

The purse size makeup mirror that I use when I apply my makeup has a regular side and a 5 times (at most) magnification. The magnification is no longer enough for me to see the hairs that need to be tweezed, so somehow I had convinced myself that miraculously there weren’t any! Silly me. At my last hair appointment, my colorist who also colors my brows, told me that I had a white eyebrow hair that wouldn’t take the color. I said I would tweeze it when I got home, if I could see it. She said, “You can’t miss it.” Well, I missed it for almost a month, or maybe more because I absolutely couldn’t see it.

I had a 40% off coupon for CVS burning a hole in my wallet this past week, and I didn’t have anything in mind to use it on. So I wandered around the store looking at various items. I don’t think you can use those discount coupons on sale items, and CVS is so overpriced that they have resorted to putting almost everything on sale. Everything I considered buying was “on sale”, e.g. buy one, get one half off, so my coupon wasn’t usable. Finally, I saw something that I really needed: a lighted magnifying mirror!

Conair Light & 12x Magnifying LED Suction Mirror. Twelve times magnification is pretty darn scary, and I think this mirror seems to be a bit distorted. Nevertheless, the 12 times magnification and the light did a good job showing me about a million stray brow hairs that I previously didn’t know I had. How embarrassing that I walked around like that for so long! So I tweezed my brows for the first time since late February 2020. Wow!

Made with plastic silver-tone, faux metal housing, it is very lightweight. The Conair Light & 12x Mirror is 5 inches in diameter. I am not a fan of huge mirrors, so it’s the right size for me.

This is the first lighted mirror that I’ve owned (weird for a beauty blogger, right?), and it’s so helpful for those of us who can’t see. Opening the back to insert the three AAA batteries (not included) was no easy task (though it should be), but I finally got it open. The light is bright enough without being too bright. There is a “power button” at the bottom of the mirror that turns the light on and off with a touch.

The suction on the back of the mirror makes it perfect to use in the shower, but I don’t tweeze my brows in the shower. I think I could stick it on my bathroom mirror, though, and that would be helpful. It is supposed to stick to any wall.

At CVS, I think the Conair Lighted & 12x Magnifying LED Suction Mirror was priced around $15 or maybe a little more (I misplaced my receipt). At Walgreens, it’s $16.49.  With the 40% off coupon, I think I paid about $8 for the mirror, and I think that’s what it’s worth. Conair also makes this same mirror in 15x magnification, but that was not available at the store. For me, 12x was plenty.

I am late to the lighted magnifying mirror party because I never used to have a problem seeing close up. Now that I do, I think I will do some more exploring the world of lighted, magnified mirrors. This little inexpensive Conair is perfect for my initial purpose, tweezing my brows, especially for less than $10. But over time, I will look for a small, lighted magnifying mirror with a better quality mirror.

Any recommendations? Any experience with Glamcor mirrors?

  1. What a fantastic purchase, Allison! There is nothing like a good magnifying mirror with a light. I bought one (with a stand) from Costco years ago, and I use it every single day!

    1. I think you got the Glamcor mirror that I had been thinking about buying, but the shipping costs made me postpone. Maybe I’ll go for it next!

No, actually, it was this one from Riki Loves Riki: https://rikilovesriki.com/collections/riki-mirrors/products/riki-cutie-riki-x-ipsy-exclusive
It’s super cute and has three levels of lighting!

        1. I will have to save up for that Riki Loves Riki cutie! I think I confused RLR with Glamcor because their mirrors are similar. Someday, I will get a good one like yours 🙂

I was so lucky to get it in my Glam Bag X. Apparently you had to get onto the Ipsy site and make your choice SUUUUUUPER early to score it. Good thing I was up at 5.

          2. You planned it well, Gabrielle! So happy you scored! BTW, I skipped this month. Did you get the bag or did you skip it too? I went to every other month till I make a dent in what I already own.

      2. Gabrielle says:

I skipped this month too! The spoilers left me cold. July looks decent though. https://hellosubscription.com/2021/06/ipsy-glam-bag-plus-july-2021-spoilers/

        1. I thought you told me you skipped this month. Yay! Thank you for sending me the spoiler link – is it on the Ipsy website? I must have the Fenty nail polish and the Mented lipgloss. Now I just have to remember to go to the website on July 2 and pick my items.

        2. Duh, I just noticed that the link you sent was from Hello Subscription. I will start following them!! Thanks again xoxo

          1. Gabrielle says:

I follow several subscription websites. It doesn’t hurt to follow what’s coming. Oh, and the Fenty’s a lip paint. I just thought I’d make sure you knew so that if you make your choice early in the morning (which is best policy, I’ve found) and you don’t like a really bold lip, you don’t choose it!

          2. Yikes, thanks for pointing that out to me. I looked at the shape of the Fenty bottle and just assumed it was nail polish. Silly me. I need to go to sleep. So is the Fenty lip paint another term for a liquid matte? The shade is gorgeous, but now I fear it isn’t for me.

          3. Gabrielle says:

It’s liquid for sure, and I know you find those drying, so you might want to take a pass if it’s a choice.

          4. Thanks again for confirming that. I will take a pass 😥

          5. Gabrielle says:

I hope you get the lip gloss! Set your alarm on July 2.

          6. LOL, I should mark my calendar now!! tyvm
