Firefly Soy Candle: Orange Neroli

On a beautiful Saturday morning in the spring, I went to historic, touristy Salem to buy a particular houseplant, a pink and green calathea, that I saw online at a local shop. I asked them to save it for me since it was somewhat unusual. I bought the plant, and I was happy I did.

On the way back to the car, I stopped in a home decor and gift shop that I have been to in the past, just to take a look. For Valentine’s Day, Jeff bought my marble, heart-shaped soap dish there, and I bought a friend some dish towels for her new kitchen. They have nice stuff.

I was in the mood for a jarred, soy wax candle. Although I already have several jarred candles, they’re not soy-based, and I know that soy wax is better to breathe in.

Having a hard time deciding between two different fragrances, now I can’t remember what the other one was. I chose Orange Neroli from the brand Firefly Candles’ Senses collection. It is described as a mix of clove, citrus and cinnamon. It smells divine in the jar. But it doesn’t smell much at all when it’s lit. Hmmph.

The Firefly Candle website lists the following notes:

Top Notes: Juicy Lemon Lime
Middle Notes: Cinnamon, Clove
Base Notes: Sweet Orange

The other night, I decided to move it from the bathroom to my bedroom and try it again. It was burning for a couple of hours. Still no noticeable scent.

It was time to go to sleep, so I leaned over to blow out the candle. Because it was burning for a while, I didn’t think about the liquid wax in the jar. When I blew out the flame, the liquid spilled over onto the jar, onto my vanity table, and onto three new pairs of shorts on the vanity seat below. Ugh, at 11:30pm, I wasn’t happy.

I grabbed the shorts and ran down to the laundry area and sprayed them with Shout Ultra. Fortunately when I washed them the next day, the wax stain that removed after I peeled off the wax, came out in the wash.

I still have quite a bit of the candle left, but now I can hardly wait to use it up so I don’t spill it all over the place again! 5 ounces for $20, on sale on the manufacturer’s website for $16.
