Today’s the first day of summer, and it finally feels like it here in the northeast. I bought a Groupon months ago for a mani-pedi, and it expires next week. So I took some time off from report-writing today and went down to Studio Hair Design, 28 Cabot Street (though on the Rantoul side of the street) in Beverly MA (all the way down near the Beverly Salem Bridge).
My last mani-pedi was at a funky place in a strip mall near the Fred Meyer in Johnson Creek outside of Portland OR where I was conducting a long day’s worth of shop-along, market research interviews with teens for a makeup brand. Although the manicurist did a great job, the salon wasn’t the cleanest, and I was a little worried. Luckily, everything turned out OK.
This time, I went to Studio Hair Design in Beverly MA, a year-old business at its current location. The owner renovated what was formerly the Chamber of Commerce building. It is very cute, decorated as you’d expect for a place right by the ocean. I loved the nautical theme and the calming Tiffany blue walls. Very relaxing. The only thing I could definitely do without is the country music on 102.5 New Country that was playing incessantly in the background (sorry country music fans, I just hate it. There, I’ve said it!).
It was a somewhat crowded (Friday afternoon) but fun atmosphere with the women who work there joking around in a nice way. And it was a friendly place, too. The owner’s tiny dog with a rhinestone collar has the run of the salon. She (the dog) seems to think she’s a human, so she fits right in.
I chose OPI Japanese Rose Garden, an old-favorite that I also have at home, for my toes.
And I picked a pale aqua from a brand I was unfamiliar with for my nails, now why didn’t I snap a picture of the bottle!
Feet came first, and the foot and leg massage would be worth it alone. Marie, the woman who did my manicure, was great at massage. Also, this is the first time I could stand having someone use the dead skin remover on my feet. However she did it, it was much appreciated. Here’s a pic of my toes.
A hand massage was part of the manicure and that relaxed me further. (If only the country music would go away!). After my nails were painted, I sat for a few minutes with a little fan to make sure they were dry.
With the Groupon, you get a 25% discount on the next visit. I signed up for another round in 6 weeks. Maybe the radio will be turned off that day.
They don’t seem to have a combo price for a mani-pedi. According to their website, the Studio Manicure is $22 and the Studio Pedicure is $35, a little pricey. Shellac is an extra $10. They also have Studio Spa versions of both services that are more expensive, and I’m not sure what they include. But as I mentioned, the place was very clean, the services came with mini-massages, and they didn’t rush me through.
