At Open Studios in Newton MA in April, I bought a new pair of purple handcrafted earrings from one of the artisans. Jeff and I were going to the movies this rainy afternoon, and I decided to wear the earrings and do a purple face of the day inspired by my new earrings.
Because I was in a hurry, this was an on-the-fly purple look. I grabbed my handy Stila LE Under the Mistletoe Palette and a number of Jordana Cosmetics items that were close by including Jordana Dramatic Effects Mascara that I received a couple of months ago to try out. More on that in a minute.
So here’s my look:

Lips
Above, I mentioned that I received the entire range of Jordana Dramatic Effects Mascara to try out, 9 shades. Look at those gorgeous colors!
I’ve tried all of them, and unfortunately, they just do not show up on my blonde eyelashes. I was going to write a full review saying that they just don’t work, but then I saw a photo on Instagram of a dark-haired, dark-lashed young woman really rockin’ the purple mascara on her lower lashes. I mean, it looked fabulous! It worked perfectly on her. So I tried applying Vivid Violet to my lower lashes like she did. Nothing. I had applied CoverGirl The SuperSizer Mascara in Very Black to my upper lashes. I decided to put it on my lower lashes as well, and then try the colored mascara on top of it. No go. To be honest, I still didn’t see it. But maybe the problem is my blonde lashes, or maybe Jordana just needs to make a thicker colored formula. You still may want to give one of the shades a go, especially since they are so affordable, $2.99.
Meanwhile, I continue to adore the Jordana Cat Eye Liner. Orchid really pops and the color lasts and lasts.
I won’t lie, I am not a fan of colorful mascara. But I have to say I quite like the look you’re wearing here, it’s not too clowny or OTT.

OMG! You hit pan on the blush in your Stila palette! Congrads! First thing I noticed besides your pretty face! Unusual earrings. I love the color purple. One of my favorite colors.
Yes, I’m sad about it because it’s the fastest blush to apply, and I love the shade. Maybe some day I’ll buy a Stila cream blush to try it. But when I’m not in a super-hurry, I’ve switched over to the TT Dollskin 😉 It is so pigmented and long-lasting xoxo
I just love handmade earrings and these are so pretty! This is a fun purple look too. Too bad about the colored mascara’s. It probably is your blonde lashes but so sad that you have all these beautiful shades and they don’t show up. 🙁
Thank you, Natalie! The earrings were unusual, but I didn’t many any/many purple earrings and the price was right. I’m disappointed too about the mascara. Maybe I’ll give the green one another try today and see if I can get some color out of it.
I’m always too scared to try different color mascara other than black or brown. And $2.99 is a pretty good price, but that is too bad it didn’t work well for you… so now I’m not sure I would want to try Jordana mascara. BTW, you look gorgeous 🙂

Thank you, Vivienne. I was disappointed that these don’t show up on my blonde lashes. I’m going to try again today with the green one. I actually love colored mascaras, but usually the more sedate shades like navy blue or deep purple.
I love using purple on my eyes! It’s one of my favorite colors to use with neutrals. Love the look you did!

I wore some purple shadow for the first time in a while the other day. I forgot how much I love the color, especially with my brown hair and eyes. Must look into more purple products!

I tried two more shades from the Jordana line, and still no color to speak of. I’ve gotta dig out the Milani blue mascaras from last summer because that formula worked better. I love colored mascara too, and I was so psyched for all the Jordana shades. Oh well.
I love the purple look you created. It is so much fun and so pretty. Those earrings are very unique. I really like buying artisan jewelry. It has such a personal feel.

I love purple makeup, and this look is nice! How disappointing that the colorful mascaras aren’t popping on you. I kinda want to try one because I’m a child of the 80’s and I loved my electric blue mascara! lol.

Unfortunately, the electric blue doesn’t have the bulb turned on. I don’t know if it’s just me but they just don’t show up at all and there’s no volume. I’m really surprised because everything I’ve tried this year from Jordana has been fabulous. These are the only fail so far.
Yay for purple! I love the earrings and the Jordana Orchid eyeliner. I’ll have to get some of that.

The mascara is the new CoverGirl The Super Size Mascara. The Jordana Dramatic Effects in purple didn’t work at all, but the purple effect is coming from the terrific Jordana Cat Eyeliner in Orchid 🙂

I love the look but personally I don’t think you are missing out on the purple lashes. Someone younger than I am can carry it off, I look like a clown. I tried some from MUFE and I felt so self conscious in them. Now the earrings are another story, those are beautiful.

Thank you, Marcia! I like the earrings too. I have worn colored mascara for years, but usually navy blue, deep purple, deep green, and I enjoy it! But these just didn’t work, period, the end. I guess it should make me feel good to actually throw some makeup away!

Did you get any color at all from any of the Jordana Dramatic Effects colored mascaras? Only the deep blue left a little color on my blonde lashes. Basically, none of them worked for me. Unfortunately, I’m tossing them
On my lower lashes – I was able to get some color by using the tip of the wand… but the wand has so much space between the bristles, it didn’t really catch my long lashes. I have been using them in my hair… they have great color pay off.

I had good luck with the Diorshow colored mascaras and their colors are better suited for me at this stage of the game: navy blue, deep purple etc. Unfortunately, I’ll be tossing these. They’re the only thing from Jordana this year that hasn’t worked for me.

I’ve used colored Diorshow mascara and the color has been great. These were the only Jordana product I’ve used over the past year that didn’t work. But their Cat Eyeliner & Modern Matte Lippies are gorgeous, so I won’t hold this against them.

Gee thanks a lot, Monica! I need to find the Jordana liquid eyeliners because the colors are amazing. I think I probably tossed the Jordana colored mascaras by now (that was a year and a half ago!), but they didn’t work as well as I had hoped.
