FOTD with New Milani Cosmetics Spring 2016

Milani, my favorite drugstore brand, has just come out with a number of new products. Earlier this month, I posted here about the new Moisture Lock Lip Treatment. Now I have several other new Milani products to share with you. I decided to do a face of the day with the new products and a couple of permanent products I had on hand.

The new products that I just received include:

So far in my suburban CVS stores, I have only seen the Prime Perfection in a separate display on top of the shelves, but I have heard others say that they’ve seen and purchased the new Everyday Eyes palettes at other CVS stores. I’m sure you’ll be seeing them soon if they’re not there already. All of the products I used are available on the Milani website.

Prime Perfection is a terrific primer. It’s a medium weight white liqui-gel that I found very hydrating. It is said to reduce redness and reduce the appearance of pores. It dries quickly and leaves a smooth, completely greaseless feel. It lasted all day for me. $9.99

Conceal + Perfect 2-in-2 Foundation + Concealer is a lovely creamy liquid foundation. I hadn’t seen any liquid foundations from Milani before this, and this is the first Milani foundation I have tried. It comes in an ombred glass bottle with a dropper with a sort of forked tip that makes applying the foundation easier, I think, than if there was none. Although it didn’t drip, I’d apply it over the sink. Unfortunately, the shade I received, 02 Natural, is too dark and too warm for me. But I wore it anyway and the shade worked well enough. I’ve got my eyes open for this foundation/concealer so I can pick up shade 01 that I think would be a better fit for my fair/light skin tone. I applied the foundation concealer over the Prime Perfection with a blending sponge and it went on very easily. Because it has the built-in concealer, I got great coverage – full coverage – from this exceedingly lightweight foundation/concealer! Although the foundation feels a little heavier going on than some of the prestige foundations I’m currently using (Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation and NARS All-Day Weightless Foundation), the Milani Conceal + Perfect feels just as lightweight on my skin as the other two. It lasted all day with no issues. I think this product should be a big hit! $9.99

Truth be told, I didn’t have big expectations for the Everyday Eyeshadow Collection. Somehow the “Everyday” name and the Naturals colors threw me off. I was thinking pale, neutral shadows. Boy, was I wrong!

The palette really packs a punch! I should have known. It’s Milani! Their eyeshadows always deliver great color and pigmentation and this palette is no exception! On the back of the palette, Milani gives you a suggestion about how to use the 6 shades, but I did my own thing. I applied the shadows over Milani Eyeshadow Primer, and they lasted brilliantly till I took them off about 10 hours later. There are 3 mattes – light milk chocolate, deeper brown and black, and 3 shimmer shadows – beige, a browned rose gold, and apricot – in the collection. The shimmer shadows have a lovely glow. No glitter here, thank goodness.

Not sure why the light milk chocolate shade and the apricot didn’t show up better on my arm (over Milani eye primer) because they definitely showed up fine on my eyes. That’s why I included the finger swatches of four of the shades. These creamy, blendable shades definitely have enough pigment.

I used all the shades. Beige as a highlight shade on either side of my nose, apricot in the inner corner, rose gold on my lid, light milk chocolate in the crease, deeper brown in the V, and black as my eyeliner. Although they call this palette “Everday”, I wouldn’t hesitate to wear it for evening or even special occasion looks. It really is that pigmented and pretty! There’s a double-ended brush in the palette that is decent quality though you will prefer your own brushes if you’re at home. Definitely check out the Everyday Eyeshadow Collection. It comes in a couple of other shade families, too. You won’t be disappointed. $9.99

Next, I tried the new Big and Bigger Lashes Mascara. This is my first time using a Milani mascara. It’s a fat tube with a fat wand inside. The wand has a weird plastic head that doesn’t have plastic teeth all the way around – there’s an area with no teeth and I don’t get that. At the tip, it has an equally weird flat thing with teeth around it.

I believe you’re supposed to twirl the wand as you apply to create the bigger lashes, but my lashes never cooperate with anything that complex. The formula does provide volume and length. But I regret to say, I haven’t cracked the code on using this wand so this was not my favorite product in the new collection. I need to spend more time with it to see how I can use it better on my strange eyelashes. $7.99

Those were the new products from Milani. From my stash, I used Milani Eyeshadow Primer, Powder Blush and Colour Statement lipstick. Specifically, I finished my look with Milani Powder Blush from the Rose Collection in shade Coral Cove 05, a highly pigmented coral that I applied with a stipple brush, and Colour Statement Lipstick in shade 52, Coral Addict. As you know, I’m a fan of corals and peach shades.

I strongly recommend checking out the new Prime Perfection, Everyday Eyeshadow Collection, and the fabulous Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation/Concealer. They were great! And who knows, maybe you can figure out the Big and Bigger Lashes Mascara  😉

  1. I have read few great reviews on Milani’s new releases. I have been thinking of buying the foundation but if the coverage is heavier then I am worried I won’t like it as I usually wear very light coverage. I’ll have to swatch it first, let’s hope there’s a tester. And how weird is that mascara wand?! Definitely not for me and my pathetic lashes. LOL!

    1. Shireen, I am using a couple of foundations now that are like water. Because the Milani Foundation+Conceal has built-in concealer and is full coverage, the consistency on the applicator is heavier than the other watery foundations that I use. But when I put it on my skin, it’s as light as a feather which was quite amazing to me!

  2. Ohhhh, that foundation/concealer look exciting! I love Milani stuff!

    1. I really liked them both, Heather! I’ve gotta find the foundation in a shade that’s a better match for my skintone. I hope they have one that’s lighter and cooler-toned because it is quite an amazing full coverage foundation+concealer in one!

    1. The rose blushes are gorgeous! yes, get one! And Milani truly is the best deal at the drugstore. I loooooooove so many of their products!

  7. Coral Cove is one of my favorite blushes! Everything looks great on you. My local stores always take forever to get everything in stock and with all the new items out trust me I’ve been checking. Can’t wait to come across them though, I definitely want to try that foundation, primer and eyeshadow palette.

    1. Thank you, Kara! Fortunately, I don’t think you can see how far off the foundation shade is on my face 😉 My local CVS stores don’t have the foundation, shadow palettes or mascara yet either. I’m eager to see what shade 01 looks like and if it’ll suit me better. I hope the new products come to your area soon too!

  8. These products look beautiful on you! Bummer that the foundation was too dark though. My CVS has completely redone the Milani display. It’s beautiful! There were spaces for these new products, but they weren’t there yet. Can’t wait to see them in person. And yes, that is definitely a different mascara wand. I’m sure there was some reasoning behind it.
Stacie recently posted…Hair Repair to the RescueMy Profile

    1. Thank you, Stacie! Has the Milani display been redesigned or did they just change up the products in the display? I did some market research for them a couple of years ago, and there was some talk about changing up the look of the display but it hadn’t happened yet and my client left the company last year. I can see that they’re selling off and not replacing the products from 2015 including the Bella Eyes and nail polish, but the CVS stores near me haven’t put anything new in the displays or changed them in any way yet. The Moisture Lock and the new Primers are in the stores but in LE style displays on top of the regular store shelves. So curious to see what’s going to be. I hope I can find a lighter and cooler shade in the foundation+concealer because it really is a great product!

      1. The Milani display was all completely new and completely redesgned and fresh. It looked great. They were redoing the Physician’s Formula display while I was there too.

        1. Oh, wow! I can hardly wait to see it. It’s funny that I live in MA where CVS is or was based, and we always seem to be last to get everything. I’m excited about this and the PF display, too. Thanks for taking the time to respond 🙂

  9. Your fotd looks great! I picked up this foundation last week, and so far LOVE it! I didn’t grab any of the shadow palettes, but I really think those swatches are pretty. I love neutrals!

    1. What shade foundation did you get, Amber? I was sent 02, Natural and as you could see in the swatch, it was way off for me. I’m hoping that whatever 01 is, it’ll be closer! Although the primers are in the stores near me, the foundation and shadow palettes aren’t. I’m eager to see the other shade families for the palettes!

      1. I have 02 also, and it’s a bit warm/peachy but I can pull it off with lots of blending. It’ll definitely work once I’m back on self tanner lol. The lighter shade looked to fair for me but I think it would work for you. I can’t remember what other palettes they had, but I know there was a brightish one, and a couple of other neutrals.
Amber recently posted…Best of the Blogosphere Link Up Week 55My Profile

        1. Thank you, Amber! I’ve got about 6 CVS stores near me so I’ll hit them all and see what I can find. I definitely think 01 will work much better for me. In the meantime, I better start with the self-tanner 😉

  10. Such a gorgeous look on you. That shadow palette looks right up my alley. I’ll have to check it out for sure.

  12. Rachel R. says:

The new products look great. I nearly bought the eye palette with the orange shade, but chickened out. Glad to see the eye palettes are good. Coral Cove is one of my all-time favorite blushes.

    1. I haven’t seen the other new Milani palettes yet, Rachel, though I believe one of them is a family of purples. You’ve got me curious about a palette with orange now! And yes, Coral Cover rocks!

      1. Rachel R. says:

I like the sounds of the purple one! I believe there is supposed to be a brights one, too. My Walgreen’s just had the one you’re showing here, and the bronze and orange one.

        1. I meant to check out a few CVS stores today to see if I could find the new products, but I ran out of time. I want to see the bronze and orange. Sounds like they’d be good for me!

  13. Those shadows are so pretty! I haven’t tried any of the Milani eyeshadows (they’re a bit pricey up in Canada) but Coral Cove is my favourite summer blush. I really need to pick up the other rose blushes because they’re perfection!
Jodi recently posted…Hylamide Low-Molecular HA Booster ReviewMy Profile

    1. Coral Cover is such a great blush shade! I’m glad you love it too. The entire blush line is so pigmented and such a big size, you get a lot of bang for your Canadian buck on those!

  14. You know I’m very happy with the e/s palette and get a lot of use from it. I just received the mascara and foundation from drugstore.com. I love Total Lash from Milani so I decided to take a chance on a new mascara from them. I can’t wait to try the new foundation.

    1. At CVS, we just have a small free-standing display here, but I think it’s wider than 2 ft plus it has products on the side. I hear they’re re-doing the display, and i’m excited to see what it is. Walgreens & Walmart don’t carry Milani near me. I wish the brand wasn’t so relatively hard to find.

  16. I enjoyed your Milani makeup review esp the eye palette in Naturals! Lovely makeup look! 🙂

Milani is my favorite drugstore makeup too. I really like that eyeshadow palette. You look so pretty Allsion!

    1. Thank you, Laura! Even though it’s another neutral palette, some of the shades are different like the “browned rose gold” and the color payoff was amazingly good in person.

  21. Milani is definitely one of my fave drugstore brands – and I love that they came out with a palette! It looks great on you, and I want it, even though I have 101 neutral palettes. The foundation + concealer sounds interesting, too!

  22. Awesome post Allison. I’ve got my eyes on that foundation and concealer! From your review about it, I think it’s definitely something I’d consider trying because it’s as light as the NARS and Bobbi Brown foundation which is so awesome. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  26. That lipstick shade is amazing and I totally need to look for the primer (whenever it finds it’s way here)
Bailey recently posted…Michael Todd Soniclear PetiteMy Profile

    1. The new Milani primer was amazingly good! It left me skin with such a nice, velvety feel. Love it!

  27. Great look – I had the same issue with buying too dark the first time I bought the 2-in-1 foundation. At that price point, I’m just keeping the darker foundation to mix with the ones I buy that are too light (since that happens, too, when I buy online), and maybe experiment with using as a contour.

    1. Thank you,Sidra! It’s so nice to hear from you! I ended up giving mine away – I think I had two different shades. But someone just told me that they came out with shade 00 so I’ll take a look at it. My only problem with Milani and Jordana foundations is that they have yellow undertones and I am a definite pink. I bought some Manic Panic white mixing pigment but I’m too lazy to bother since I have some foundations that are a good match colorwise. Your contour idea is a great one. Wish I had thought of that!

  28. Giveaways work, too! I have slightly yellow undertones myself and it took me a while to figure out I needed to buy the ‘neutral’ shade of a foundation line (if they have one) because yellow bases were too yellow, but pink bases don’t seem quite right either.

I bought some airbrush foundation from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics in a red (pink) based shade (R01), and I use it to add a little color, and redden, other foundations sometimes. (It’s also good for making tinted moisturizer.) I know there’s a line that has various colors so you can tune your makeup like that but I can’t remember what it is. I am not thinking about Cover FX drops, I’m pretty sure of that!
    Sidra recently posted…SkinMy Profile

    1. Hmmm, there are more companies coming out with pure pigments these days but I can’t think of who it is besides CoverFX right this minute either!
