Fresh Start ipsy Glam Bag January 2015

The month just seems to be rolling on, and we’re almost at the end of January. Two months till Spring!

But this time of the month usually means ipsy time for me. And I received my January 2015 ipsy glam bag mid-month, a little early, yay!

The theme is Fresh Start which makes sense for a January bag. The bag itself is an embossed grid pattern on plastic. The color scheme is blue on one side and white on the other with a red zipper and ipsy pull. Somehow, this look seems better suited to the Fourth of July, but whatever.

So what did I get?

  • Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eyeshadow in Ethereal, an ivory satin
  • Bellapierre Cosmetics Shimmer Powder in Whesek, a steel blue-grey: also an eyeshadow
  • Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow Brush
  • Jouer Essential Lip Enhancer
  • La Fresh Eco-Beauty Day Moisturizer.

Although I thought it was a little odd that I got two eyeshadows, I’m not complaining. They actually look nice together. The Pacifica ivory satin shadow is perfect for everyday or in the corners for an evening look. Although I usually wear matte shadows, I love the glow that this shadow has. The Bellapierre Shimmer Powder is an amazing metallic grey-blue, and it’s quite striking. It looks good with my blue eyes. And the Elizabeth Mott travel size eyeshadow brush is soft and definitely handy.

The Jouer Essential Lip Enhancer is similar to the City Lips Lip Plumper that I adore. Although I love Jouer cosmetics, I don’t like the Essential Lip Enhancer quite as much as my City Lips. Jouer has a different, more slippery consistency that some of you may prefer, rather than the thick gel that is City Lips. The Jouer has a slight but chemical taste. I didn’t see any change in the size of my lips, but after wearing City Lips for more than 6 months, my lips are probably at max size, lol!

The La Fresh Eco-Beauty Good Day Day Moisturizer comes in a cool deluxe sample packet with a tube top that allows me to close it up. I really like that. The moisturizer feels very hydrating when applied, but it dries down quickly. Strangely enough, I can’t find any mention of SPF though it’s called a “day moisturizer”. Maybe that means a lighter weight moisturizer than their nighttime moisturizer?

At any rate, I liked everything I received.  The Bellapierre Shimmer Powder is full-size, and it is priced at $14.99. The Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow Brush is priced at $9.99. The Pacifica eyeshadow comes in a palette of 4 shades for $14, so it is technically a sample though it is the size of the shadow in the palette. And the Jouer and La Fresh Eco-Beauty Day Moisturizer are both deluxe samples. So again, my ipsy bag is worth well over the $10 I paid for it.

So if you’re thinking of taking the plunge and subscribing to ipsy for $10 a month delivered, please consider using my referral code so I can get some extra points toward free makeup! And if you’re a subscriber, what did you get in your ipsy bag??

    1. Yes, the chemical taste has put me off the Jouer lip plumper, plus I adore City Lips. So that was the only small disappointment for me in this bag.

  2. I liked that brush as well, it’s full and soft, but firm enough to blend in just a few strokes. And the color is totes adorbs 🙂

  3. I was reading a lot of comments that people hated two eyeshadows in one bag but I think it works! I saw that Urban Decay is coming soon to Ipsy so it may be totally worth it to subscribe with your link now!

    1. The two shadows definitely worked for me! In the past, I’ve gotten 24/7 liners and Perversion mascara from UD in my ipsy bag. So I hope people will considering signing up and using my link! Thanks for mentioning it, Krystal!

  6. What a lovely box, but the chemical taste from the Jouer balm would be a definite deal breaker for me!

    1. Actually, the bad-tasting Jouer lip balm was the only small disappointment in the bag this month. But as I always mention, I adore City Lips so I’m all set.

Hi! I always like to see other people’s Ipsy bags. I also received the brush and Pacifica eye shadow. The other products in my bag were a lash food, the blue nail polish, and the Malin Goetz lip balm. I’m not usually excited about lip balm but this one is perfect for Winter as it’s thicker than others. The eye shadow doesn’t show up on my super pale skin though even when I build it up. I’ll save it for the Summer time. Overall though, I always like my bags. Thanks for sharing yours. 🙂

    1. Natalie, I’m so glad to hear what you got in your bag. I’ve never tried Lash food so you’ll have to let me know if it works. I love blue nail polish so that sounds good, and I’ve heard great things from others on the Malin & Goetz lip balm. Glad you got the shadow brush, but too bad that Ethereal doesn’t show up on you. On me, it shows up as ivory-ish but I do have to kinda pack it on. Try it in the corners just for a little subtle shimmer??

  8. Hmm I’m still not a huge fan of these subscription boxes and while I’ve never used that brand of eyeshadow I wonder how it looks when applied wet.

    1. I haven’t tried the Bellapierre loose shadow wet ‘coz it’s already so metallic. It might make a nice liner that way.

  9. Not too shabby! Love the brush! I’m contemplating signing up again!

    1. It seems to have improved over the past several months, Jess. And for 10 bucks delivered, I still think it’s the best bargain in town

    1. I was definitely pleased with it!

  10. Natalie Brown says:

I’ve never tried lash food either so that was a cool item to get. I’ll definitely send a msg. and let you know how it works. That’s a great idea for the eye shadow too. However, I think I’m going to give it to my friend’s granddaughter to play with. lol

    1. I hope the lash food works, Natalie! I’ve seen some pretty impressive results that some women have gotten. I wish I didn’t have eye and skin issues, coz I’d love to try a lash serum or lash food…but I’m afraid to make things worse for me. Regarding the Ethereal shadow, that’s one of the good things about ipsy: gifting the stuff that doesn’t suit to someone who’ll enjoy it!

  11. Those eye shadows are very pretty and that brush is to-die-for!

    1. I especially love the brush. Just the right size, so handy!

  12. Ooh the ethereal shadow is so pretty and perfect for a highlight

    1. I agree. Who would complain about getting two eyeshadows? And the blue-grey loose mineral shadow is beautiful in person.

    1. They are pretty shadows and look great together!

  14. Thanks for pointing out that Jouer lip enhancer has chemical taste. I’ve read rave reviews about it. I’m very nitpicky when it comes to scent/taste so I’m skipping that!

    1. I wonder whether I got a bad one, Kathryne. The Jouer lip enhancer has a distinct chemical taste which quite surprised me. I’m sticking with my City Lips Lip Plumper.

  22. I also got the Pacifica eyeshadow in mine (but in a slightly darker shade) and a Bella Pierre shadow (but a white, I wish I had got the same one you did), and that shadow brush too. It wasn’t my best ever Ipsy month, but I do like what I got!

  23. I’ve never understood what makes a day moisturizer separate from a nighttime moisturizer if it doesn’t contain SPF! Otherwise it’s just more lightweight, I guess. I’ve been meaning to try Jouer products!

    1. I’m with you, day vs night makes no sense unless there’s SPF involved!
