Friday Find: By Terry Baume de Rose Lip Balm

Recently, I was going through the samples and travel size goodies that I received when I made a purchase at Barney’s NY during either their spring or fall beauty promotions. I don’t shop at Barney’s very often, but that’s where I buy my favorite perfume. I try to make sure I buy it during one of the beauty promotions because they give out a makeup bag filled with about $200 worth of samples and sometimes a full size product or two.

In the Barney’s makeup bag, I discovered a travel size of a cult classic, Baume de Rose from By Terry, the French luxury makeup brand.

I don’t know how I missed it when I first got the bag, but I’m glad I noticed it now. It’s a tiny pot with pale pinky-peach balm inside.

For some strange reason, I had a brain lapse when I first opened the jar and tried it. I thought it was a balm that you apply to dry skin. Duh, what was I thinking? So I wasted some of it trying to apply it to my dry patches of skin. Fortunately, I looked at the box and saw that it was a lip balm. I knew that, lol.

If you are a rose scent lover and you have some extra cash burning a hole in your pocket, By Terry Baume de Rose is made for you. The rose scent is exquisite! You can definitely smell the scent on your lips for maybe a minute after you apply it.

And the balm itself is amazingly hydrating and soothing. It’s very thick and it stays put on my lips. I love it! According to the brand, the benefits from some of the key ingredients include:

  • Essential rose wax soothes and restructures lips
  • Floral oils nourish and moisturize skin
  • Bio-ceramides smoothen the skin and provide anti-aging benefits
  • Vitamin E offers antioxidant protection.

The only downside IMO is the price. A 10 gram jar of By Terry Baume de Rose Lip Balm is priced at about $60. That means the 3g travel size jar I got in my Barney’s bag is worth $18. Wow.

In addition to being sold at Barney’s, Nordstrom, Space NK and BlueMercury, By Terry Baume de Rose also available at Dermstore.com where you can often find a 20% off sale, like right now with the code GLOW18. But even with 20% off, it still costs $48…for a lip balm. 🙄 So I’ll be sad when this mini-jar is used up!

I think Baume de Rose is similar in terms of its characteristics to Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask because it comes in a pot, it’s pink, and they have some ingredients in common (shea butter and waxes).

I think Baume de Rose is thicker and more emollient on my lips than Laneige. Next to my tried and true Dr. Lipp Miracle Balm that is no-frills 100% medical-grade lanolin, Baume de Rose By Terry does work to heal my super dry lips. In fact, I’d say it’s more effective for me than Laneige. Wish I could justify buying more. 😥

Have you ever tried By Terry Baume de Rose? What do you think about it?
