Friday Find: IT Cosmetics Celebration Powder Foundation

Back in the spring, I bought IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation, a full-coverage powder foundation that intrigued me. I had never tried a powder foundation before. Somehow, I never got around to reviewing it. I found it at the bottom of my makeup bag, and I decided now’s the time to say a few words about it.

IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation compact

The Celebration Foundation compact comes with a mirror and a sponge applicator. If you don’t like the sponge, you can apply it with a brush. I usually use the sponge applicator because I get good coverage with it, but I need to try a brush.

IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation sponge applicator and mirror

I like the powder foundation. Although IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation is supposed to be “crease-proof”, I need to apply it over a hydrating primer or else it settles into my “expression lines” 😉 Because it’s highly pigmented, it does provide full-coverage for me, no fooling! It covers my pores (though I don’t really have large pores) and my dark spots from sun damage. Since it’s a compact, it’s easy to make touch-ups after several hours, if necessary.

Now that it’s humid, I’d like to try wearing the Celebration Foundation because maybe it would be more comfortable in summer than a creamy foundation like my favorite IT Cosmetics CC Cream. Unfortunately the shade I chose in April – Fair – is too light for my skin now that I’ve been out in the sun, even though I’ve been wearing sunscreen. I definitely need a darker shade.

IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation. shade Fair

So back in my makeup bag it goes till probably late October when my skin returns to its winter shade. I don’t intend to spend another $35 for a darker shade just for another couple of months.

The IT Cosmetics website mentions that Celebration Foundation contains anti-aging ingredients: “Hydrolyzed Collagen, Peptides, Hyaluronic Acid, and Drops of Light Technology”. It’s nice to wear a foundation with skincare benefits.

Celebration Foundation comes in 5 shades that appear to go from Fair to Rich, a cinnamony-medium/dark shade. It’s made in the US, and it is cruelty-free. It’s made without Talc, Parabens, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Synthetic Fragrance and Phthalates. I’m trying to find the SPF number but can’t seem to locate it, but it does contain Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide mineral sunscreen. The compact contains 0.9g/0.30 oz., and again it’s priced at $35. You can also buy it packaged with a foundation brush for $49.50. IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation is available at Ulta and on the IT Cosmetics website.

  1. I have really loved each and every one of the it Cosmetics Foundations that I have purchased. Most have come in sets, but each one is a little different, offering a different finish. I don’t use them much in the summer as a foundation, but mostly as a setting powder from time to time. I have also become really obsessed with their makeup brushes. Great quality!

    1. I really should go for more of the IT Cosmetics sets because they are such great deals. I wear the CC cream almost every day because I have a couple of shades and the spf 50++ rating is what I need. And the brushes are definitely wonderful

  2. What a lovely review, Allison! I tend to keep away from powder foundations because I have often found them drying (and I have normal/combination skin), but this one definitely sounds well worth trying. I love the inclusion of skincare ingredients in finishing products. I definitely don’t blame you for not wanting to spend an additional $35.00 on a darker shade for summer since you won’t need it for very long before having to switch back to this shade.

    1. Thank you as always, Helen! I had the same concern about powder foundation but the “full coverage” benefit was what so intrigued me. I was a long time user of Bare Minerals, and it gave me the best coverage of my sun damage, but as the years went by, it did settle into my lines. I have found that over a good primer that I wear with any foundation, IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation is not drying and it does cover my spots! Trying it again in the summer, I was reminded that it is a “heavy” foundation (as is IT Cosmetics CC Cream that I wear anyway because of the spf 50++) so the fact that the shade is off is OK since it’ll be more comfortable to wear in the fall.

  3. Interesting! I love their Bye Bye Redness cream but haven’t branched out into anything else. I might have to test this out at Ulta next!

  5. I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed in any of the It Cosmetics products. They are really high quality!

    1. Exactly right!

  6. Thanks for this review–I’ve been hearing a lot about this foundation! I haven’t tried powder foundation since bareMinerals eight or so years ago. It made my skin look a little dry, but that was before I knew what primer was. I just got the Laura Geller powder foundation, so I hope that will restore my hope in powders!

  7. This seems similar to the Make Up For Ever Multi Use Powder Foundation. WHICH I LOVE. It lives in my hand bag for on the go touch ups, or if I’m having a no make up day and suddenly realize I need some coverage.

    1. I love MUFE. In fact, I’m very curious about their new stick foundation. Have you seen it?

  8. I am a bit torn with powders as you probably know Allison. This one sounds OK though. Unlike most, I wasn’t a fan of their CC because I had to use moisturizer for it to not show so dry on my skin. I will suggest this to clients who love powder, people often ask me and I suggest Becca.

    1. With dry skin, powder foundations aren’t usually very good. I had to give up Bare Minerals because it was too drying for my skin. But this one has anti-aging ingredients and with a hydrating primer, it works well for me especially in covering my sun damage. I am surprised to hear that the CC Cream doesn’t work for you. I wear the CC Cream a lot, and on me even with my dry skin, it’s sometimes almost overly hydrating! But everyone’s skin is different and reacts differently to products 🙂 I haven’t tried the Becca powder foundation yet (but I just bought their concealer the other day and I like that for hiding my sun damage).

  9. Rachel R. says:

I love powder foundations because of my oily skin. This one sounds pretty good.

    1. It’s very good, Rachel, if you are looking for a full coverage foundation. And it has anti-aging ingredients as well. It’s not technically a mattifying powder foundation but it might be worthwhile to test some next time you’re at Ulta and see if the finish and feel is what you prefer 🙂

      1. Rachel R. says:

I’ll check it out. I also have to make sure it’s light enough for me. Thanks for the additional info.

        1. Absolutely, Rachel. I find that IT Cosmetics can be heavier than other brands so it may not be for you. A friend who’s an MUA like the powder foundation from Becca, but I haven’t checked that one out myself yet. 🙂

  10. Can I say how much I love It Cosmetics? Their CC + cream is probably the best thing ever! I have this foundation, I forgot all about it hehe

      1. I am going to dig it out and use it now though 🙂 Have you seen their new shadow palette that is coming out in Sept? It is only $28 and from the IG pics looks gorgeous!
Heather recently posted…SinfulColors Street FusionMy Profile

        1. No, I haven’t. I like the Naturally Pretty palette that’s still one of my faves. I’m eager to see the new one and at $28, it’s the right price point for me 🙂

    1. It’s a good one if you are looking for full coverage. And I like that it has anti-aging ingredients in it.

  13. I love the finish and how it feels but it’s too dark for me lately.
Phyrra recently posted…Darling Girl Darkly Sparkly TutorialMy Profile

    1. I can imagine that it would be too dark for you since in the non-summer I wear Fair and you are decidedly lighted than I am.

  14. Valerie C. says:

I have this in fair. I’m very fair/oily. I bought it a while back too and made the mistake of applying with one of my wedge sponges, didn’t like the texture and put it in a drawer. Then I noticed they only used a brush on QVC, so I pulled it out of the drawer again 🙂 It looks much better now. I also love the fairly new MUFE powder foundation formula, but, the lightest shades are a bit too pink/orange.

    1. It’s so difficult to find a good shade match in every line of foundation, grrrr. I used the sponge that came with the IT powder foundation at first, and I agree – it went on too heavy. Swirling it in with a brush is much easier. One of these days, I may try the beauty blender just to see. I haven’t seen or tried the new MUFE powder foundation yet, but I’m curious about the stick foundation that just came out. Also, I’ve got a sample of Too Faced Born This Way that I have to try. The MUA at Ulta put some on me last week, and I liked it. Have you tried it yet? I wasn’t sure she got the color right but I’m never sure about that! And I was surprised that the line didn’t seem to have a shade for very fair skin that sounds like yours.

      1. Valerie C. says:

Hi~ No, I have not tried the Too Faced yet. I’ll try to sample at Ulta. I’m considering a splurge on the new Marc Jacobs liquid or the MUFE stick at Sephora though 🙂 There are so many options out there, yet, many companies don’t do a nice fair/neutral.

        1. You’re right, they often don’t do a true fair shade. I am actually “light” since I’m not the “lightest” but in a number of lines including IT, I’m often “Fair”. And so many lines skew toward yellow or orange! Another friend just bought the Marc Jacobs liquid this week, and she likes it so far. You’re also right, Valerie, there are so many new foundation options, it’s hard to decide. I still haven’t reviewed the NARS Luminous All Day Weightless Foundation, and I still like it but I had a tough time finding a good match there too!

  15. I’m a huge fan of powder foundations, my favorites are from Cargo, Benefit, and MAC….but this one just didn’t work for me 🙁 Everyone raves about it, but it just sat on my skin and didn’t flatter me. Boo!

  16. My drawer is filled with IT Cosmetics foundations including this one. Mine hasn’t gotten much use though since I think it makes me look too dry. I guess I’m so used to their CC+ Cream that I don’t want to use anything else.
MarciaF recently posted…Kiehl’s Super Muti-Corrective Cream Sunscreen – add it to your shopping listMy Profile

    1. You’re right, Marcia. The powder foundation is definitely more drying than the CC Cream. I use a good hydrating primer with the powder foundation. It isn’t my first choice, but it does such a good job of hiding my sun damage. Although I wear the IT CC Cream several days a week, sometimes it feels heavy on a hot day so I was hoping I could wear the powder foundation instead. As I mentioned, the color look too light now compared to my chest and neck I think…but I may take another look just to have a non-liquid/cream option on a hot, humid day.

  17. I love everything IT cosmetics!

    1. I like it, Shaakira, because it really does cover my sun damage and it contains anti-aging ingredients. I think the range could include more shades, but it’s worth a look when you’re at Ulta 🙂

  22. I have 3 different versions of their powder foundation (regular, Illumination, and SPF) and I love them all. They have a dual-sided buffing brush that is perfect to use with it (the smaller side helps for the nooks and crannies, or to apply a little more as a concealer.) Nothing better for my oily skin, especially during the summer.

I’ve been using a regular foundation brush in the meantime.

  25. I love IT and I’ve been curious about this and the Illumination Celebration. I don’t like full on powder foundation, it isn’t compatible with my dry skin but I like it as a setting powder on days I need additional coverage and refining.

    1. I wouldn’t use this as a setting powder because it’s heavier as it really is foundation. I wouldn’t be able to wear this (or any foundation for that matter) without a primer, but it does have anti-aging ingredients and I think maybe some HA too. I don’t think you need this, Erika, because you don’t have sun damage like I do. It was the full coverage aspect that go me. But I’m also curious about the Illumination Celebration, but instead I’ll try using the YSL gold flecked primer under the regular Celebration Foundation and see what, if anything, that does

I love a full-coverage foundation and this one sounds quite lovely! I had another foundation with a sponge and liked the way it applied too. I’m really enjoying this “Friday Find” series. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, Natalie! I had such good experiences with IT Cosmetics products, and I love the CC cream so I thought what the heck, I wanted to try the powder foundation and see if it really did provide good coverage for my sun damage. What I used to love about Bare Minerals mineral foundation is that it really and truly covered my dark spots, but it settled into my lines. I probably should try BM again with a better primer for old times sake. But IT’s Celebration Foundation really is full coverage and I like that it has anti-aging goodies in it. I do need to wear it over a primer, but I wear liquid foundations over primer too so it’s no hardship. I’m curious about the Celebration Illumination powder Foundation that came out shortly after I bought this one, of course! I have applied the Celebration Foundation with the sponge applicator, but truth be told, I like the finish better applied with a brush. And when I’ve seen IT Cosmetics on QVC/HSN, they always apply it with a brush and they have a powder foundation/brush combo that they sell so I’ve switched to the brush. The sponge is good for touchups!

  28. I’m not a huge fan of powder foundation since during winter months my skin are much dryer and it may look cakey. But I love it Cosmetics products very much. Great review as always 🙂 xo

    1. I hear you, Sharon, ‘coz usually I have the same experience. I was wearing Bare Minerals mineral foundation for a long time ‘coz it did such a great job of covering my sun damage. But my skin became too dry especially in the winter so I gave it up and switched to liquid foundation. I am happy with liquid foundation and with BB/CC creams for most of the time. I had heard good things about IT Cosmetics powder foundation being full coverage so I wanted to check it out. If definitely is full coverage which is great for me. This powder foundation has anti-aging ingredients and some built-in hydrators but I still need to wear it over moisturizer and a good primer. I wouldn’t try to talk you into powder foundation especially if you’ve found liquid/cream foundations that work for you!

  29. I haven’t tried IT cosmetics yet, is there any more products you would recommend? I really like your review. It’s very in depth. I’m little scared of powders myself, on my very dry face they always end up caked up.

    1. I know my reviews are long, lol. I am a market researcher, and I’m used to writing long, in-depth reports for my clients! I usually feel the same way about powders, but with a good primer and applying it with a brush and with the anti-aging ingredients built into IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation, I haven’t had any problems with caking or dryness, and I have very dry skin. IT Cosmetics have lots of other fabulous products: Bye Bye Redness, Bye Bye Undereye Concealer, gel eyeliner, great shadow palettes, and the best makeup brushes just to name a few 🙂

      1. I really like lenghty reviews. They give me a broader understanding of the product. I must try IT Cosmetics foundation, I’m going to try to find it in UK when I use up all the bases that I’m currently using 🙂

In the past, Bare Minerals powder foundation was the only thing that really covered my sun damage, but I found it was settling into my lines. Because IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation has anti-aging ingredients, I haven’t had a problem with it settling into lines especially when I apply with a brush. And it does cover up my spots!

    1. I have tried the Illuminating Celebration Foundation but I bet it’s a great one!

      1. Yes! I don’t care for the coverage of most pressed powder foundations on their own because my skin is so red and sometimes bumpy from rosacea, so I like to use this with a brush over liquid foundations sometimes. I don’t regularly use it because of that, because I do have products that a – finish and b – fully cover. But this pressed powder in particular I like!

    1. I’ve gotta break out my summer shade of Celebration CC+ Cream!! No I haven’t tried the bronzers. Bronzer isn’t my thing really. On rare occasion, I wear em cosmetics contour/highlighter stick primarily to contour because it’s a cream stick and easy to apply. By and large, bronzer doesn’t suit me – it makes me look like my face is dirty. I just don’t like the look on me, but I do like it on other people especially those with medium/darker skin.
