Friday Find: Maybelline Face Studio Master Conceal

Oh, why do things always get lost at the bottom of my makeup bag? Probably because I’ve got too much in there. But I went hunting in the bag and came up with Maybelline Face Studio Master Conceal, this week’s Friday Find. I bought it a couple of months ago at CVS, forgot to review it, but it’s a darn good concealer that you should know about!

Master Conceal is called a “camouflaging concealer” by Maybelline, and I think they’re right. Although it is a rather lightweight, creamy concealer, it provides buildable full coverage.

It comes in 5 shades, but Maybelline could definitely afford to add a couple of deeper shades to the range: fair, light, light/medium, medium, medium/deep. I chose Fair, and when it’s completely blended (I didn’t blend it all the way in the photo ‘coz you wouldn’t be able to see it!), it’s a perfect match for my fair/light skin tone. It lasts under my eyes for as long as I’m wearing my foundation. On dark spots, I get about 5-6 hours depending on the humidity before it needs a touch up.

Maybelline Face Studio Master Conceal, shade Fair 10

I have a lot of concealers from high-end to drugstore, but Maybelline Face Studio Master Conceal is a good one and affordable too (around $8-9). Widely available. Made in the U.S. 12 ml/0.4 fl. oz.

What’s your favorite affordable concealer?

  1. This sounds like a really great concealer! I agree that they should definitely add more shades for darker skin tones, and in fact that is something that a great many brands need to do.

    1. Yes, you would think a big brand like Maybelline would have more deeper shades in their lineup!

  2. I still haven’t found my HG concealer – I like trying new things too much! I did fall in love with Cara Cosmetics concealer, and right now, I’m using It Cosmetics Bye-Bye Undereye. It’s amazing stuff.

    1. I have Bye Bye Under Eye too, and I need to review it. I like ’em both. Maybelline Master Conceal is a bit lighter weight, and it may not last quite as long but it still stays on for a long time.

  3. I haven’t used a drugstore concealer in ages. This one sounds pretty good.

  4. Good to know that you liked this concealer, I may need to give it a try!

    1. I find it to be a very good one, Anastasia. Not quite as heavy as Bye Bye Under Eye but almost as long lasting.

  5. I’ve heard really good things about this concealer. I’m glad that it works well for you! It’s always nice to find one that works and is affordable.

    1. Yes, it does work well, and the price is right. The only things are that Maybelline needs to add some deeper shades and I wish they would become cruelty-free

  6. I’m always looking to try new concealers, I’ve yet to find one that truly wows me. I like the NARS Creamy Concealer but it’s a bit thick.
Tess Galen recently posted…DHC Travel BitsMy Profile

    1. This is not thick. I have Amazing Cosmetics and IT Bye Bye Undereye, and the Maybelline is much lighter weight. It’s surprisingly good especially for a drugstore brand

  7. I’m bye-bye undereye every day. But, I’d love a less expensive alternative!

    1. To be honest, I reach for this one by Maybelline even more often than I do my Bye Bye Undereye. This one is lighter weight, but last almost (but not quite) as long 🙂

  8. I think I have this in my unused stash. I bet it’s time to go see. I always worry that drugstore products won’t be light enough for me.

    1. You mean light color or lightweight? Fair is a perfect match for me, but I’m somewhere between fair and light-skinned. In terms of being lightweight, this is much more lightweight than Bye Bye Under Eye or Amazing Cosmetics pricey concealer. But if you have a concealer that’s working for you now, no need to try something new. 🙂

  9. Nataile Brown says:

I’ve yet to find a favorite drugstore concealer but I’m glad this one works so well for you. I’m on the look-out for an affordable, creamy and full-coverage concealer so I’ll have to check this out. Thanks!

    1. I really do like it, Natalie. The coverage is buildable and it is lightweight. I tend to use it more often than Bye Bye Undereye & Amazing Cosmetics especially in the summer because it’s lighter weight.

  10. this is awesome that it stays for 5-6 hours! I’m always on the hunt for s great bargain like this. I like Maybelline but I’ve never found an awesome face product like this. Maybe their new lines are stepping it up!

    1. I think Maybelline has some really good stuff these days. I like the Mast Glaze cheek sticks, a number of mascaras, the Color Tattoos, one of the lipsticks lines that I can’t think of the name of right now etc. I really like this concealer especially for summer because it’s lighter weight than other concealers but it has good buildable coverage.

  11. I heard many good things about this concealer and glad to hear that it works well on you. I’m loving my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser but I’ll definitely check on this one in medium shade since I always love trying new concealers xx

    1. I’ve always been curious about the Age Rewind because it looks so cool in the packaging!

  12. I tend to skip most drugstore makeup because I can’t find a shade match. Everything is too dark.
Phyrra recently posted…Lunatick Cosmetic Labs Apocalipsticks ReviewMy Profile

    1. This is a perfect match for me so it would be too dark for you. Plus as you know, Maybelline hasn’t made the big switch to becoming cruelty-free. I wonder if they ever will unless it’s mandated.

  13. Oooh, I haven’t seen this one in stores (or at least I haven’t noticed it), but it sounds like a great dupe for my MUFE full coverage concealer!
Julie recently posted…Face of the Day (FOTD) featuring Marc Jacobs and GuerlainMy Profile

    1. I haven’t tried the MUFE concealer so I don’t know Julie. But it came out in February, I think. I really like it, and especially in summer, I prefer it to some of my heavier weight prestige brand concealers.

  14. Valerie C. says:

I’ll have to try this one. I recently picked up their new Superstay Better Skin concealer, which is nice, but, not full coverage. At CVS I had a $5 off 2 coupon so I bought the Maybelline powder you reviewed along with it 🙂 The powder is a nice cool toned fair. Thanks for the recommendation.

    1. I’m glad that the Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder is working out for you, Valerie! I haven’t tried the Superstay Better Skin concealer yet but I will check it out next Extrabucks reward. The Master Glaze builds to full coverage for me. And I really like it for summer because it is a touch lighter weight than the Bye Bye Under Eye and much lighter than Amazing Cosmetics concealers, but gives me just as good coverage as those two and Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage.

  15. I’ll pick this up next time I’m at the drugstore. Is it creasefree? That’s my pet peeve about thinner concealers.
Cindy (Prime Beauty) recently posted…Always Discreet Let’s Me Be Me!My Profile

    1. It doesn’t crease on me! But I don’t set it under my eyes since my skin is so dry, if that makes a difference.

  16. I haven’t used a drugstore concealer in quite a few years. I use a good one from MAC these days. But it’s nice to have some affordable options.

    1. Yes, it’s always good to have an affordable option. I own about 5 different concealers at all price points coz I’m always on the lookout for great concealers. I should try the MAC too!

  17. This sounds great, but I wish it lasted longer. I hate having to retouch concealer during the day.

    1. Gio, I don’t set my concealer especially under my eyes since my skin is so dry, but I imagine if you did, you’d get an entire day from it. It lasts all day under my eyes, but my biggest, most obvious dark spot comes through after 5-6 hours. I should try setting that.

  18. Jess says:

I’m obsessed with this concealer! Such an awesome drugstore option

    1. I’m glad you like it too, Jess. I think it’s a great concealer that’s right up there with the prestige concealers I own 🙂

  19. This is definitely a great affordable option!

  20. I need to give this another go. I found it to be a bit too drying during the winter, but it might be great for Summer weather! Thanks for the review!
Amber recently posted…Exuviance Intensive Eye Treatment PadsMy Profile

    1. I don’t set my concealer so maybe that’s why it’s fine for me and my dry skin.

  21. I’m with Nidia. I haven’t found a HG concealer. I do need something that lasts longer than 5 hours.

    1. I don’t set my concealer, Jenn, so it might last longer if I did that. It doesn’t crease after 5 hours, and it still provides coverage under my eyes. But I have a dark spot from sun damage below my left temple. That’s my major concern, and it’s what I gauge long-lastingness on. After about 5 hours, the dark spot does start to show a bit, but it does that no matter which concealer I use: IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye, Amazing Cosmetics, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, NYX Correct & Conceal. Good luck in your search!

  22. That’s great how well it covers. Too bad they don’t have more variety in darker shades. That’s always an issue for me as a WOC.

    1. Medium/dark is a fairly deep shade, but I was surprised that there wasn’t another deeper option. Similarly, Fair would be too dark for women with very fair skin.

  23. I’ve read quite a few positive reviews for this. I really like the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, so I’m open to giving this a try too.
Bailey recently posted…Beauty Blog Coalition Weekly Roundup Vol. 44My Profile

  24. I’d love to see the deeper shades, especially if it worked well for you.
Kim recently posted…ISSA by FOREO in Mint ReviewMy Profile

    1. That’s the problem, Kim, there’s is one deeper shade: medium/deep and it’s not that deep. They need to add about two deeper shades, and probably one even fairer shade. But it’s one of the best drugstore concealers I’ve tried

  25. Maybelline is an excellent drugstore brand. I have so many faves from them. I haven’t tried this concealer so it’s on my “next to buy” list!

    1. I think so too. Maybelline’s products have improved so much over the last decade. They’re very impressive.

  26. I have this one and I do like it, but my absolute favorite affordable one right now is L’Oreal’s Visible Lift Blur, I think it’s creamier and easier to blend. However, it only comes in 3 shades and the lightest is still a little bit too dark for me.
Kristina Vieweg recently posted…Ultimate Strobing Cheat Sheet, Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette and More from The Beauty Spotlight Team!My Profile

    1. I’ll have to take a look at it, Kristina. I haven’t had good luck with any of the L’Oreal or Lancome Blur products but maybe this would be different since it’s a concealer. But I’m good with this one as my drugstore concealer: the color match is perfect and it blends very well for me.

  27. Loving my UD concealer right now!

    1. Haven’t tried that one yet. Next trip to Sephora/Ulta, I’ll give it a go

  28. This is on my list of things to try!
