Gimme All The Sparkle: Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liner

You’d think by this stage of the game I would have outgrown glitter and sparkles, but as John Belushi used to say (that’s how old I am), “but no-oh” I still want all the sparkles!

The SA at Sephora who was helping me during the VIB sale was wearing a gorgeous purple glitter liner that made her brown eyes pop. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her eyes, lol. I asked her what she was wearing, and she took me over to the Urban Decay display and showed me the Heavy Metal Glitter Liners.

There are about 13 gorgeous shades of liquid glitter liner in total, and Sephora had about 8 of them, four of which were new shades at Sephora. They are water/gel-based liners made from superfine glitter in a clear or transparent-tinted base.

I originally decided on a rose pink shade, Catcall.

It was a beautiful shade when I swatched the tester on my hand, but when I got it home and tried it, it didn’t show up on my pink eyelids except for a couple of pieces of glitter. Sad.

I brought it back and exchanged it for the silver, Glamrock. Much better for me!

I like to go back and forth with the skinny, little brush a few times angling the brush to get the amount of bling that I’m looking for, and it builds nicely. What looks even better, IMO, is applying pencil liner – in the lower swatch I used charcoal gray – with the Glamrock liner over it. I love it. I think it would look great over colored liner like navy blue or deep purple too.

BTW, I haven’t had any issues with glitter fallout.

Is this an eyeliner I’ll use all the time? No (although I wish I could wear it everyday!), it’s mostly for the holidays or for parties. I don’t usually wear glitter shadows, but having a little glitter at the lash line is a nice compromise. I look forward to wearing it with silver metallic shadow or with shades of grey matte shadows. Party on!

If you want full on glitter, you can apply it on top of your eyeshadow using the side of the brush or tapping it on the center of the lid with a finger. Lots of ways to go.

Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Line is priced at $20 for 0.25 fl. oz./75 ml. Cruelty-free. Sold on Urban Decay’s website, Sephora, Ulta, Macy’s, and wherever Urban Decay is sold..

  1. That should be a really fun addition to your party look. You’ll have to share some photos later, as I bet it’ll be really pretty! And thank you for anticipating the inevitable glitter fall out question- you know us all too well! 😛
Since that doesn’t seem to be an issue though…. Ooooooo I kinda like the looks of the gold one, the unicorn/iridescent one, and the brown! Maybe I’ll pick one up and shock my coworkers, hahaha. It’s handy not having to wear office appropriate all the time!

    1. Do it! The one with the brown glitter would be especially gorgeous. I might need to go back and try that one! I’m still hoping that Ulta will have their 20% off event. When you remove the glitter, it comes off easily with micellar water on a cotton pad, but it can smear around. Using a facecloth is best afterwards 🙂

  2. I LOVE this eyeliner! It’s gorgeous and so fun for making your eyes look a little more festive!

  3. I would love to see a photo of a make-up where you’ve used these. They look amazing and I wish I could do a perfect line, but they mostly look crazy when I try.

    1. It stays put for me, but taking it off using a face cloth is best to get those pieces that the micellar water and cotton pad leave behind.

  7. Good to know that there’s mo glitter fallout! I don’t think I own any glitters like this, I will check it out

    1. Catcall is so pretty in the tube but the color just didn’t show up on my lids. Maybe it would on yours. The purple was the shade the Sephora SA was wearing, and it was stunning!

  9. I’ve tried glitter liner but never felt comfortable in it. Maybe my age is catching up with me. I still wear glittery shadows though.

    1. Glitter liner and/or shadow isn’t for everyone. We all have our own taste. I don’t wear glitter shadows so much, but I settle for shimmer instead so this gives me a more oomph!

  10. These are so pretty – I have swatched but haven’t field tested them yet!

    1. I’ll be eager to hear what you think. I’m especially curious about the one with the brown glitter

  11. Now and again I indulge on glitter, personally. With these though, I can see them working on editorial looks mixing them up as an ombre lip or even a more artistic approach on eyebrows.

    1. I can understand that, Katie, but fortunately I haven’t had any issues with fallout. But one thing that was odd was when I was standing under the overhead can lights on my kitchen ceiling, it would give a sparkle in my line of sight that was weird.
