Giveaway: Cosmedica Skincare Vitamin C Serum

Many years ago when I was in college in New York, I somehow got a certificate for a free facial at a salon in midtown. The esthetician (or “saleswoman” might be more appropriate) scared the living daylights out of me. In an effort to sign me up for a series of facial skincare treatments, she told me I had the kind of skin that would look old before its time if I didn’t take care of it “correctly” starting immediately. At age 21, I had just about perfect skin. No acne, just pretty fair skin with a couple of freckles on my nose.

She made me so angry. Needless to say, I did not sign up for treatments at the salon. I never went back to that salon again. Instead, I eventually found my beloved Georgette Klinger Salon where the Eastern European estheticians told me that I had beautiful skin and they could show me how to take care of it. Sold. I became a lifelong client till the business folded a few years ago.

But the good news is I started taking care of my skin young, and I’ve kept at it (all except for those mishaps with baby oil at the beach). And I haven’t stopped trying to slow the hands of time even now that I’m solidly middle-aged.

In fact, I’ve been on a facial skincare mission over the past several months, two missions actually:

  • to boost my collagen level
  • to lighten the dark spots from sun damage.

To that end, I’ve been taking NeoCell collagen supplements and using a retinol cream (I’ll review that soon). My skin seems somewhat firmer. The dark spots have lightened a little to a lot depending on which spot we’re talking about, lol!

Back in November, I introduced you to Cosmedica Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum. It’s still my favorite hyaluronic acid serum, and I’m still using it. Cosmedica Skincare donated two bottles of the Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum for a giveaway on Never Say Die Beauty, and they are doing it again! But this time, they are giving away Vitamin C Serum.

Let me tell you about Vitamin C and Cosmedica Skincare Vitamin C Serum, the new weapon in my skincare arsenal. Though I have seen results from the supplements and the retinol cream, I was delighted to add Vitamin C Serum from Cosmedica to my regimen to boost the results.

Vitamin C in skincare products has been getting a lot of good press lately because it has been shown to have real, measurable effects – both in the laboratory as well as on real people – in repairing damage to skin.

citrus fruit

Twenty years ago, a Duke University scientist showed that a form of vitamin C reversed UVB damage when applied to the backs of hairless pigs. That research presented evidence that sun damage could be reversed with the topical application of vitamin C. Great news for silly girls like me who spent too much time in the sun without sunscreen!

Here’s what vitamin C can actually do for your skin:

  • Protect skin from free radicals and UV damage (from both UVA and UVB rays though do not give up your sunscreen!)
  • Improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin by brightening the skin
  • Strengthen skin’s barrier
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Promote collagen production
  • Decrease hyperpigmentation
  • Boost the effectiveness of sunscreen active ingredients.

Wow, with all those benefits, everyone should have a vitamin C product in their facial skincare routine.

Vitamin C Serum from Cosmedica contains the maximum amount of vitamin C – 20% – and in addition, it contains vitamin E, another skin-loving antioxidant plus hyaluronic acid to help your skin strengthen its moisture barrier. The three key ingredients work together for better efficacy and absorption into the skin.

Cosmedica Skincare Vitamin C Serum

I’m happy that now I can continue to get the benefits of hyaluronic acid while helping to lighten my dark spots and brighten the overall appearance of my skin. In fact, just applying the Vitamin C Serum gives my skin an instant brightness and glow!

Vitamin C Serum, one ounce/30 ml, comes in an opaque brown glass bottle with a dropper to protect the stability and effectiveness of the ingredients.

Cosmedica Skincare Vitamin C Serum

It has a noticeable herbal scent in the bottle that disappears when you apply it that is a result of the combination of vitamin C and witch hazel, a natural ingredient that is a wonderful and gentle toner. In addition, Cosmedica Skincare Vitamin C Serum:

  • Is safe for all skin types (I have sensitive skin, and I love this serum!)
  • Does not contain parabens or alcohol
  • Is 98% Natural, 72% Organic
  • Is FDA approved and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) Certified
  • Is cruelty-free
  • Is made in USA
  • Has a 30 day money-back guarantee.

I apply a few drops into the palm of my hands, warm it up with my other hand, and pat the serum into my skin. After it dries, I apply my moisturizer or sometimes I apply another serum for a different purpose (e.g. anti-wrinkle) on top of the Vitamin C Serum and follow up with my moisturizer. I use it twice a day.

Ingredients: Organic Herbal Infusion, Organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Hamamelis Virginiana, Cassia Angustifolia Seed Polysaccharide, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Methylsulfonylmethane, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose, Carrageenan Gum, Organic Simmondsia Chinensis, Wildcrafted Camellia Sinensis, Pelargonium Gravolens, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Ethyl Hexyl Glycerin

Check out the Cosmedica Skincare website for additional details and reviews on this great product and to see the complete Cosmedica Skincare product line. When I visited the site recently, it offered me a 15% off discount code! Yes! Cosmedica Skincare is also available on Amazon.

    1. I’m so sorry, Nathalie. I asked the client about including Canada but I did not receive approval. I hope you will forgive me. It is a very good product at an affordable price point.

  2. Vitamin C is like a terrific product, It makes for aging skin look like it did years ago. I would love to win this because Vitamin C is hard to find near me and I love the fact that its more powerful with vitamin e which really is great for the skin too. I would love to see the benefits of a more powerful potent vitamin c and reverse some wrinkles I have from aging.

  7. This sounds similar to one I’m testing (of two) right now. Vitamin C serums are all the rage lol!! I am curious about the Retinol product you are testing too. I stopped using my rx retin A because it was too irritating. I’d love to find something more gentle!

It is made according to the highest standards, and it contains the type of vitamin C that has been shown scientifically to give real results in reversing skin damage and preventing free radical damage. 12. Sarah says:

What a thorough post, right down to the ingredients and how to use. I am very intrigued by what you have written about Vitamin C Serum from Cosmedica as I lived in the Carribean as a child and realize I’ve probably at a higher risk of sun damage than most. How soon did you notice the brightening affects on your own skin. I am concerned about the age spots. I can’t pass them off as the freckles I had as a child.

    Cheers,

    Sarah

    1. Thanks so much for commenting and entering, Sarah! I had the same issue: my freckles are no longer just freckles! The brightening aspects of using a vitamin C serum were immediate for me. The lightening of the dark spots happens over time (meaning a couple of months) with continued use. I have been using a retinol product on my dark spots 3 times a week, and they have lightened quite a bit but not completely. I am hoping that the vitamin C will help things along. The fact that there has been scientific evidence to show the efficacy of vitamin C sealed the deal for me to start using it. Good luck in the giveaway 🙂

  15. BlackAsphodel says:

I like trying new cruelty free products and it’s nice to have that extra protection against UVA and UVB rays. In the past I wasn’t interested in serums, but since I tried the Beautiful AM Moisturizer I always look into other serums when I come upon blog posts like this one.

    1. Thanks for coming back to comment! And thanks for pointing out to everyone that Cosmedica’s products are cruelty-free. And they are natural with a high percentage of organic ingredients as well. Yes, that extra protection against UVA/UVB is super important. Thanks for entering and good luck in the giveaway 🙂

  16. Laura says:

I too am “solidly middle-aged”. 😉 I have been really bummed about losing the facial firmness of my youth. I avoid mirrors as often as I can. It seems no matter how hard I try to look nice I am only left disappointed because of the condition of my skin. Makeup doesn’t help hide the sag. I am really interested in something that promotes collagen production. I am taking the supplements but definitely need a booster shot. Because of your high praise for this product I am so curious to see what it could do for me. I might have to give this a whirl sometime. Thank you for the review.

    1. Laura, I’m using it ‘coz I hope that it helps firm my skin and helps boost the retinol products I use to lighten my spots! I figure the more the merrier, lol. Thanks for entering and good luck!

Ooooo I’m gonna enter this one on behalf of my mother. She generally takes a rather lackadaisical approach to skincare but I think this is a product she’d actually use in addition to her usual spf. Though I would be tempted to keep it for myself…. bad daughter! lol 😀

    1. It would be a great gift for your mom, Rach! Good daughter 😉 This is a cinch to put on in the morning and before bed after cleansing. No big deal. She could do it! Thanks for entering on your mom’s behalf and good luck to you both!

  25. Yes, I wrote a post about vitamin C and a vit C serum, but I didn’t try that one. I am know using a serum ( in the form of cream, not sure why called serum, lool, ) but it is working !

  40. I am almost 33 yo and I never had “bad” skin, no acne and pretty clear skin most of my life. Which means I never learned how to properly take care of it!! Now in my early 30’s I have noticed a dullness in my face and I would love to use this Cosmedica Skincare Vitamin C Serum to give me some youthful glowing skin back!

    1. When you have good skin, Kristina, cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing and using sunscreen are the basics of good skin care. And you’re probably already doing that! Adding a serum, especially one with Vitamins C and E and hyaluronic acid, should help brighten your skin and protect it from free radical and UVA/UVB damage. Thanks for entering and good luck in the giveaway.

  41. Shannon Greathouse says:

I have extremely sensitive skin and also have developed an allergy to UV rays. I am so scared about using different products on my skin for sun protection that I have not been using any at all. I want to try and reduce what damage I have done so far and start protecting myself better.

    1. That’s awful, Shannon. I have sensitive skin as well, but not as bad as you report. Have you seen a dermatologist about it? You should. I have had no problem at all using Cosmedica Skincare Vitamin C Serum on my sensitive skin. But as you know, it is not a replacement for sunscreen. Thank you for entering and good luck in the giveaway 🙂

I’ve tried various creams, serums and exfoliating scrubs to wake up my dull, tired skin, and lighten my dark spots but nothing has really had much of a noticeable difference. Since having triplet girls almost three years ago, my skin has completely changed and not in a good way! I’m not coping with it very well. Lol. I’d love to give this a try and see what it can do.

    1. With triplets, you probably just need about a month of uninterrupted sleep, Amanda! But Vitamin C Serum is definitely worth a try, plus it offers additional protection (in addition to your sunscreen) for your skin from free radicals and UVA/UVB. Thanks for entering and good luck!
