essence, my affordable but great quality fave, has come out with a new long-lasting lipstick line in a sophisticated new look: a matte black case with a thin colorband just below the middle that shows the shade inside.
The lipstick bullet is embossed with the essence logo “e”. I love the new look!
Unfortunately, the new lipsticks are in limited distribution in the U.S., available only at Fred Meyer stores. If you live in the Pacific Northwest, you’re very lucky. You can head to FM to pick up as many of these lovely lippies as you can! I am unsure of the worldwide availability of the new line. Hopefully, they’ll be more available outside the U.S. 🙂
Since Fred Meyer stores are about 2000 miles away from me, essence was super sweet, sending me three lipsticks in three different shades of red: two to try and one to GIVE AWAY! Details on the giveaway below.
First, let me tell you about the lipstick and why you will want to win it. The new essence lipstick is highly pigmented, and I got full coverage with one swipe. Two swipes give incredible, velvety coverage. Yet, it’s lightweight and very comfortable to wear. It’s almost shocking that this is long-lasting lipstick. It is so creamy and, not at all drying — I’m absolutely amazed because long-lasting lipsticks usually drive me crazy. Actually, I almost forget that I have it on. It just looks great, and it lasts for several hours.
The Fall 2013 lipstick line comes in 10 shades from nudes to berries to brights to reds.
I’ve been wearing shade 02, ALL YOU NEED IS RED, a bright orange red (it’s on top in the swatch below),
and 03, DARE TO WEAR, a real red with a raspberry cast (that’s on the bottom on the swatch below). I know it’s difficult to tell the difference in the two shades in these photos of me taken under artificial light, but the top swatch definitely is oranger than the bottom one which is more raspberry. Both shades are bright reds with different undertones. I love both shades, and I think they work with my coloring. Actually, I think they’d look good on everyone: blondes, brunettes, women with black hair, and grey hair, too.
The giveaway shade is 04, ON THE CATWALK, a berry red or maybe you could call it red-plum. I won’t be able to swatch that one since it must be pristine for the winner. I checked with another blogger who tried 04, and she loved it. In fact, it was one of her favorites in the line. She described the color as “dark berry red”, “dark but not bright”, “a great fall color”. She thought it was a good alternative to a bright red lip: instead a deep berry lip. It sounds beautiful, and it looked great on her, a blonde. But I think it would look great on anyone.
The lipstick is 0.13 oz/3 g, and the price is $2.99 which is an absolute steal! I’m so sad that it’s only available at Fred Meyer. I want more! Women in the Pacific Northwest: go directly to Fred Meyer and buy as many of these essence lipsticks as you can! They cost next to nothing and are an incredible quality product. These lipsticks are made in Italy. In addition, the good news is that all essence products are not tested on animals.
These lipsticks appear to be gluten-free. This is a comment from the manufacturer found online: “Gluten containing ingredients are not in use of the mentioned products, but we cannot guarantee total gluten-free products because of rare but possible production dependent impurities of the raw materials.” The full ingredient lists for all the shades are at the end of the post.
