I’m a big fan of Lorac eye shadow palettes. So my sole purchase during the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty was the Lorac Riesling Romance Eye Shadow Palette.
This pretty and portable limited edition palette came out in late November 2015 and was the Cyber Monday special at Ulta. I missed it then and didn’t want to miss it this time around since it’s going away. I picked up an extra one to giveaway to one lucky winner!
The palette is gold foil, has a good size mirror, and a magnetic closure. Its small size (a tad bigger than 3 x 4 inches) makes it great for travel or keeping in your purse.
Similar to Champagne Dreams, the 2014 Lorac Holiday shadow palette, Riesling Romance is a warm, neutral palette with a mix of mattes, pearls, and shimmers with a bit of sparkle thrown in for good measure, since this is a holiday palette after all.
But this palette doesn’t shout. It’s soft and tasteful. The shades are beigey, rosy, coppery, pinks and browns. They don’t have names but this is how I would describe each of them from left to right, top then bottom rows:
- pale pink/beige matte: my exact skin tone
- medium pink pearl
- rose gold shimmer
- medium brown matte
- blackened brown with just a hint of gold glitter
- white ice pearl
- copper shimmer
The shadows are buttery and a bit powdery but nothing you can’t handle. They go on and blend easily. IMHO applying them over eye primer works best.
Here are the swatches on my light, cool-toned skin, applied over Milani Eye Primer, in natural daylight (very gloomy and dark out today) and in artificial light. Because the first shade (pale pink/beige) is my exact skin tone, I applied that one wet so you can see it a little better.

What a beautiful palette! I don’t own any Lorac cosmetics and would love to finally try one of their products. This color scheme in this eye shadow palette is perfect for me – neutral and soft. While I love experimenting with darker, bolder colors, my go-to’s are neutral-based for ease of application.

Every time I go into a Kohl’s, I wind up playing around with the Lorac palettes. Their eyeshadows are so buttery and smooth! The shade selection of this one looks nice. Not too many shades that’ll spend too much time deciding in the morning, but just enough to provide a good variety!

I actually called Ulta and asked them to put them aside for me. In the past, I’ve gotten to the store during the 21 Days only to find out that they received only 2 pieces and both were sold. I’m taking no chances, lol

These are beautiful colors! The reason I’d like to win… well, it’s been quite a while since I’ve worn makeup beyond a little mascara and lip gloss. BUT I’ve just spent a year losing a considerable amount of weight… and trying new cosmetics (and clothing!) has become something I love doing now!

Although these are definitely neutral shades, Katharina, several of them have quite a shimmer and can make a statement. I wore my palette yesterday, and I was amazed at the pale pink/white shimmer – it really pops!
