Giving Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Another Try

When I bought something either from Urban Decay directly or from Sephora last year, I received a sample of Urban Decay Vice lipsticks.

I have tried Urban Decay lipsticks in the past, and I even own two or three of them. But unfortunately, the ones I bought in the past were shimmer or metallic shades, and the minerals in the lipsticks dried out my lips after a few hours of wear. So even though I loved the shades, it just wasn’t worth it to wear them very often because I found myself spending a few days trying to repair the dryness that they caused. So when I got the Vice lipstick samples, I approached them with trepidation.

I tried the Sheer Liar sample, a pink nude, and I loved it.

It was creamy but not overly creamy, and it didn’t dry out my lips at all. Although it is part of their sheer line, it wasn’t really sheer the way a lip balm is. During one of UD’s sales in the spring, I decided to buy one. But somehow I strayed. Instead of buying Sheer Liar, I bought Wrong Number, also part of the sheer line, described as soft neutral pink. I would say it’s a cool-toned pink.

I have been on a pink craze lately. I have enough mauve, red, and coral lipsticks, and medium pink shades have been calling my name.

The Urban Decay swatches above make the two shades look quite similar. In fact, Sheer Liar is peachier than Wrong Number that’s pinker.

Both of the sheer Vice lipsticks are very lightweight, but they feel protective. They are not what I would call long lasting (they stay on a few hours if I don’t eat or drink). For me, the key benefits are the pretty shades, the lightweight feel, and the fact that they don’t dry out my lips.

Wrong Number is on sale on the Urban Decay website for $9.50. A number of other Vice lipsticks are also on sale for $9.50. I assume that the discounted shades are going to be discontinued. Sheer Liar, on the other hand, is priced at $19, the regular price, so I assume it will continue to be part of the Vice line. I checked Sephora and Ulta, and Sephora is out of stock on many of the UD Vice lipsticks. Sounds like the Vice line will be introducing a lot of new shades.

So if you are getting back into lipstick now that we don’t have to wear a mask all the time, check out the Urban Decay Vice sheer lipsticks. They are perfect for easing your way back into wearing lipstick. Nice MLBB shades that don’t make dry lips drier. Check ’em out on the UD website to see if there’s anything that appeals to you.

I think that shade looks gorgeous on you! For me, the liquid lipstick fiend, I fight dryness by putting on a lip balm first then blotting it gently, but I know that doesn’t work for everyone.

    1. That’s a good tip, Gabrielle! It’s a little easier, however, to wear lip balm under liquid lipstick than under traditional lipstick. But I should try it again and see if I can wear all of the drying lipsticks I own 🙂

I hope it lets you wear those neglected lippies!

        1. <3<3<3 Me, too! I am going to try over a thin layer of City Lips and see if it will work. This afternoon, I tried a "cream matte" liquid, and it isn't dried out my lips. I'll put that over City Lips, and I bet it will make a difference. Thank you for reminding me!

Glad to help you embrace your entire lipstick collection! I am celebrating the fact that the Ipsy Glam Bag X spoilers for August left me cold, so I will be saving money and not getting it. Yay!

          2. Ah, interesting. After about 10 years, I changed my Ipsy Plus subscription to every other month. I have so much stuff in my office that I can scarcely walk around. I will definitely miss not getting a box this month, but I think it’s for the best.

  5. I don’t own any of the vice formula but it sounds like a great one. One of my first favorites when I started blogging was an Urban Decay lipstick.
