GLOV, Microfiber Makeup Removing Cloth

I travel a fair amount, so I’m always curious about anything that removes makeup easily and without having to carry more liquids and gels with me. So when I was offered an opportunity to try GLOV, a new microfiber makeup removing cloth, I responded without hesitation.

How To Use GLOV

GLOV works with water alone, no cleanser necessary. Perfect for travel or for nights when I don’t feel like being bothered with a lengthy cleansing procedure. The microfiber fabric that GLOV uses has star-shaped fibers that “grab makeup like a magnet”.

GLOV-instructions

I believe that GLOV comes in three versions, and I received a square GLOV that sort of has the corners folded over on the other side so there’s a “hole” in the middle of one side so that I can insert my hand and put a finger into the corner for more control.

The directions say to start with removing eye makeup, and I would have done that anyway. I use the corner of the GLOV with my finger inside it to easily remove my eyeshadow, then I move onto my eyeliner that also comes off easily, and next mascara.

Regular mascara comes off like a breeze. My Mirabella Waterproof Lasting Lash Mascara requires a little more time. I put my finger in another corner, make sure the GLOV is good and wet in that area, I let the GLOV sit on the lashes for several seconds, and then I work the GLOV in between the lashes. The waterproof mascara comes off but it does require a bit more work than the non-waterproof mascara.

GLOV easily removes face makeup and regular lipstick. One night I was wearing a long wear lip stain and GLOV removed most of the lipstick but a bit of a stain was left behind. Since I was at home, I used a bit of micellar water or oil, can’t remember which, and got the stain out. Here’s how it looks with my makeup on it.

With non-waterproof mascara and regular lipstick, GLOV works very well. It’s a cinch to use. When I wear longer lasting makeup, I think I’d stick with  micellar water or makeup remover/cleanser.

How To Clean GLOV

The directions say to wash GLOV by hand immediately after using with warm water and bar soap. That’s what I’ve done. It probably takes me about 5 minutes or so to wash it completely clean. So you can’t be too lazy because you can’t wait till it dries to wash it. Some long-wearing lipsticks can be difficult to get out out of the fibers. At first, I wasn’t sure it was completely clean, but when it dried it was indeed completely clean. And you must put it in a place where it will air dry. Here it is when still wet.

GLOV’s fibers are antibacterial. GLOV is supposed to last for 3 months of continuous use. Then you’re supposed to replace it with a new one. The instructions don’t say anything about washing it in the washing machine so I think a washing machine with detergent may compromise its efficacy.

Here’s how GLOV describes the microfibers and technology of the makeup remover: “Made with microtechnology, GLOV fibers are 30 times thinner than a cotton pad and 100 times thinner than a cotton pad and 100 thinner than a human hair. Their electrostatistic abilities absorb all makeup like a magnet till you wash the GLOV. GLOV fibres are antibacterial in their nature so they are always safe for you during the 3 months usage.”

Thoughts on GLOV

For me, GLOV is a handy item to take with me when traveling. And that’s how I will continue to use it.

It might be more ecological because I’m not tossing a bunch of cotton pads every night. But on the other hand, it’s supposed to be replaced every 3 months, and I use quite a bit of water to clean it. So I’m not sure how sound my ecological argument is.

The mitt-shaped GLOV-On-The-Go is priced at $12.99 and is sold at Ulta Beauty. You can also check it out on Facebook.

Have you heard of GLOV? Have you used a microfiber cloth to remove your makeup? What do you think?

  1. I haven’t seen this brand but there have been a few of similar products in the market since late last year or so, I never tried one though. I don’t know if I’ll ever be completely sold on this idea too, I think it’s a lot more hassle than it is worth. Great review, Allison!

    1. I was psyched to try this, Shireen, but like you said, I think it was “more hassle than it was worth”. I did get a smaller square microfiber cloth in a BB5 box – I don’t remember the brand – but I like that one better. It is softer and easier to wash out. But for everyday at home, I still prefer micellar water and/or cleanser

I really like how an opening is provided to insert your fingers. 🙂

    1. It’s an innovative design, Laura. Putting my finger in the corner really does give me more control and helps me get in between my lashes.

  3. I haven’t heard f this brand before, but this looks like a great option for less resilient formulas. thanks for introducing me to GLOV, Allison!

  4. This looks like a really nice way to remove makeup. I like the shape of it. I often will make little points with my cotton pads soaked in makeup remover.

    1. Great for regular makeup removal or for travel!

  7. I think that travel is the best use of this. I feel like you’d have to rub your eyes a little hard to get off mascara and eyeliner. But when traveling the less I take, the better.

    1. Right! But I must say with regular (not waterproof liner and mascara) it comes off easily without hard rubbing. It’s my waterproof mascara that’s the challenge

  8. Very interesting! I’ve never used anything like this, but it seems like it works pretty well. I wonder how it would work on really heavy smokey eyes…

    1. I don’t think it’s the amount of makeup, I think it’s whether it’s waterproof or not that makes the difference. Any regular makeup came off easily and quickly. The waterproof makeup takes more rubbing and because I have so many eye issues – dry eye, blepharitis etc – I don’t want to use it when I’m wearing the heavy duty long-wearing makeup.

  9. This looks interesting but I think I’ll just stick with what I’m doing.

  10. This is a really great idea, especially for traveling. I don’t think I’d having to clean it after each use though!

    1. That’s the key reason I don’t use it every night – too lazy and save a step/add a step

  11. I have not heard of this cloth before – only the other makeup removing cloth and I haven’t tried that one either. I like the design… I think it makes it easy to hold but definitely for every day use – I would still to my traditional cleansers or my MW. It looks interesting though and something I would try but probably not something I would look into buying.

    1. I like my MW and MU removing cleansers as well, Honey, so I couldn’t give them up. But this definitely works for me when I travel

  12. I have not heard of this but I know I’d use it daily if I had one. I think I need to splurge on this. I’ll put it on my wish list for Ulta.

    1. Check it out next time you’re at Ulta. I don’t know if they carry the square one or just the mitt but they work the same way 🙂

  13. I think you are right on with travel for this! I’d be interested to try it for that
