Great Goodies from Kohl’s Beauty Department

A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to receive an adorable polka dotted makeup bag filled with awesome beauty products from Kohl’s to help spread the word about their expanded Beauty Department. I had no idea that Kohl’s had added some of my favorite prestige brands to their lineup of private label brands. Wow, did they get my attention with the goodies jam-packed inside the cute cotton bag! I gotta say I wish my monthly subscription bags were like this baby 😉

This is what was in the bag:

  • Jane Cosmetics Cream Eyeshadow in Brilliant Bronze
  • Pur Minerals Cheateau De Vine Lipstick Sampler
  • Sugar Sweet Cheeks Cheek Colorstick in Rose Posy
  • Lorac Cobra Mascara
  • Elle Cosmetics Lip Gloss in 07
  • essie Nail Polish, mojito madness
  • Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex
  • Eylure Naturalites 020 Natural Volume False Eyelashes
  • theBalm How ‘Bout Them Apples Cheek & Lip Cream in “Pie”
  • Be Delectable from Cake Beauty Coconut & Cream Hand Cream
  • Mariah Carey Dreams Eau de Parfum.

In addition to the brands above that are now at Kohl’s, I discovered another one of my favorites, Cargo. Yay, right at Kohl’s! They also sell Real Techniques brushes, plus Kohl’s private label brands, Flirt, Elle, Vera Wang, and American Beauty.

I’m making my way through all of the great products. Here are some of my thoughts in no particular order.

A big surprise was the sample of Mariah Carey Dreams eau de parfum. Usually, I’m not a floral gal, but I adore this fragrance. Rather than a light, green floral, it’s a big lush scent with many of the fragrance notes that I look for that work with my body chemistry. Here’s the description:

  • The perfume is announced as a sensual floral-gourmand with each note symbolizing a certain moment in the life of this famous singer, from childhood through fame to love.  The composition begins with delicious aromas of salty caramelized apple and star anise combined with freshness of bergamot and roasted almond scent. Sensual honeysuckle is mixed with delicate freesia and lily of the valley, creating the feminine core. Warm musk, patchouli, tonka bean and vanilla from Madagascar are placed in the subtle oriental base. The fragrance is available as 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

This scent is definitely on my wish list!

Another love is the essie nail polish in mojito madness. I’m reviewing this soon in a post of its own, but I gotta say I fell in love with this green nail polish, a color that I seldom wear on my nails. True love <3 I got a full size bottle, usually $8.50.

I was thrilled to receive a sample of theBalm’s cream blush from the palette How ‘Bout Them Apples. It’s the perfect shade for me, a pinked red that stays on for hours. Some day, that palette will be mine because I looooove cream blush, especially ones that are long-wearing. I’m so happy that theBalm is now sold at Kohl’s. It used to be that you either had to purchase online or live in San Francisco where their only retail store is located. Happy, happy, happy 🙂

Speaking of blush, how nice to get another one, this time from an adorable brand that’s new to me, Sugar. I received a full size Sweet Cheeks Cheek Stick in Rosy Posey, a rose pink. It’s a really cute bright-ish pink shade that I don’t have in a cream stick, and it’s just perfect for summer. It also works on my lips. It comes in three shades, and it’s valued at $10. Nice.

Next up is a deluxe sample size, Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Cream. I already own a full size jar, and I like this moisturizer a lot especially when my skin is feeling very dry. It’s on the heavy side and perfect for winter or for skin that feels dry from sun, sea water or wind. It immediately went into my beach bag to use after showering and getting cleaned up at the beach club in Gloucester. Perfect.

Last week, I used the Eylure Naturalites Natural Volume Eyelashes. It was my first time applying false lashes, and it was not nearly as difficult as I expected it to be. I trimmed them only a tiny bit because they were just about the right size for me. Next, I applied the lash glue along the seam at the top, I let it get tacky for about a minute, and I placed it on my lashes with my fingers with no problem. The lashes looked quite natural, and they stayed on even through an afternoon at the beach. I received a single pair that retails for $5.99, and they can be purchased in different looks and in sets of twos or threes.

I hadn’t tried any products from Jane Cosmetics, but I’ve seen the brand and always loved the colors. The full size cream shadow I received that’s applied with a wand was so easy to apply and comfortable to wear. The Brilliant Bronze really was brilliant and bronze, a true metallic. I wore it on top of eye primer, and it stayed on all day with no creasing. Gorgeous. 12 shades, $8 each, cruelty-free.

I’m a big fan of coconut scents so I loved getting a 2 oz. tube of Be Delectable from Cake Beauty Coconut & Cream Hand Cream with shea butter, coconut oil and aloe vera. The scent is delicious, and it feels so good on my dry skin.

From PurMinerals, I received a sample of 5 shades of Chateau de Vine Lipsticks. The samples themselves were quite innovative. The samples came in a packet that looked like a credit card holder. Each sample was a card with a pair of lips, impregnated with the lipstick. I folded the card in half and pressed my lips on it. The shades are really beautiful. Unfortunately, the unique mode of sampling didn’t really apply enough lipstick on my lips to give me a sense of the shade or the feel and wear. Oh well. It was cute and fun to try.

More successful was the full size lipgloss from Elle Cosmetics, a Kohl’s private label brand, in shade 07, a bronze-nude with gold shimmer. Beautiful. 6 shades, $16 each.

Last, was a sample size Lorac Cobra Mascara in Black. Fabulous!

Here’s the look I created with the Eylure Naturalites Lashes, theBalm “Pie” blush, and Lorac mascara in case you missed my post last week on red lips and cheeks.

I was so pleased with the products and samples I received, I went to my local Kohl’s to check out their Beauty Department for myself. Although some stores have an even larger department than the one near me in Danvers MA, I was impressed. Each of the prestige brands had a large display with a full product lineup and testers. There was a friendly, well-informed salesperson in the department who was also a makeup artist. She was available to make recommendations and to help you try on or create looks with the products. She also tried her best to keep the testers clean. I had such a good time, I hung out with her and another saleswoman for about an hour talking about the makeup! You can be sure that I’ll be back! Thanks Kohl’s Beauty!

Oh no…why did I have to see this and how did I miss it when you first posted it. My hubby is not going to be happy with me. I will be heading out today to check them out. Never knew they had a beauty department. I live in a small town and do much online through the mail so this will be a big help if our Kohls has a setup close to this. Thanks.

    1. If they hadn’t reached out to me, I wouldn’t have known about the new Kohl’s Beauty Department either, Leah! In my area, the department has grown substantially. And I adore the brands that they carry that are often hard to find anywhere else! I hear the Kohl’s that’s farther away has an even bigger beauty dept. I hope you have fun, and hope your husband doesn’t find out 😉
