Hada Labo Tokyo Hydrating Facial Cleanser

I have really fallen for Japanese facial skincare. I’ve been using Hada Labo Tokyo Skin Plumping Gel Cream and the Anti-aging Hydrating Serum with Super Hyaluronic Acid for about three months now, and I love them both. Not too long ago, I reviewed the moisturizer and the serum. If you haven’t checked them out, here are the links: Gel Cream Moisturizer and Anti-aging Hydrating Serum.

Recently, I had an opportunity to try the Hada Labo Tokyo Hydrating Facial Cleanser.

For at least five years or maybe even longer, I’ve been using Johnson & Johnson’s no-nonsense Purpose, so this was a big deal for me to try a new cleanser. The Hada Labo Tokyo Facial Cleanser is a cream that comes in a tube with the lovely Hada Labo Tokyo cherry blossoms on the front. I love the packaging and design of this entire product line!

A pea-sized amount of the white cream is enough to make a thick, creamy lather. The tube says that it’s “gentle foaming”. I haven’t seen the foam, just a wonderful creamy lather. It feels so hydrating and luxurious on my dry skin that’s even drier now that we’re deep into winter. I love this cream: so soft, so comforting, so moisturizing!

I feel sad that I’m neglecting my good ole’ Purpose, but it’s hard to go back. 😉

Hada Labo Tokyo Hydrating Facial Cleanser is fragrance-free as well as free from alcohol, parabens, sulfates, dyes and mineral oils. Since I use it at least twice a day, I’m glad I don’t have to be concerned about ingredients that I’m not sure about or that I want to actively avoid. And it is made with ingredients that help improve skin:

  • Hyaluronic Acid PLUS: Powerful hydrator, merges with skin providing 2 times more hydration than regular HA to effectively restore skin’s natural hydrating levels.
  • Hyaloveil-P: Adhesive Hyaluronic Acid designed to adhere to skin, keeping it moist even after rinsing. Finishes the skin with fresh feeling.
  • Safe and gentle cleansers derived from natural amino acids.

The tube is 3.5 oz./100g and is priced at $11.99. It’s sold at Ulta and ultra.com, hadalabotokyo.com, drugstore.com, and walgreens.com (It’s not sold at Walgreen’s stores).

Although the cleanser is appropriate for all skin types, I especially recommend this cleanser for women with dry, mature or sensitive skin. And try the serum and gel cream moisturizer while you’re at it! I bought two jars of the Skin Plumping Gel during Ulta’s January “buy one, get one 50% off” Hada Labo Tokyo sale, and I would have bought another cleanser but it was sold out!. This Japanese skincare line is so affordable, it’s almost a shock. Truly luxury and state-of-the-art skincare ingredients at a price almost everyone can afford.

Have you tried Hada Labo Tokyo yet?

Bonjour Allison, Merci beaucoup for the great review. I have never heard of these products and I hope I can get my hands on them in Canada. Unfortunately the sites that you have listed do not ship to Canada. I will keep you posted. A la prochaine ma belle Allison. xoxo

I am so sorry that it’s not available in Canada, Nathalie. Dommage! I thought, if nothing else, the hadalabotokyous website would ship to a neighboring country. It is sold via the international site Sasa.com, but I believe they sell the Japanese products and the packaging is different so the formulations may be different too. Hada Labo Tokyo is new to the US, so maybe they will roll out to Canada once they get things in order. Thanks for letting me know. I have 2 more products from them to review and they are all good, look like luxe but so affordable!

  2. The cleanser is probably too gentle for my oily skin, but I have been using the skin plumping gel and like it.

You’re probably right, Monica, but I’m glad you’re still liking the gel cream moisturizer. I just tried Bliss Foaming Face Wash gel that has some tiny exfoliating participles in it that is a stronger cleanser than the Hada Labo creamy cleanser. Have you tried the Bliss?

  3. Very nice review, I am so impressed with all that you have to say about this line of skincare!

Thanks so much, Tina! I really like this line. I got it via FB to try out initially, but I’ve repurchased it on my own. I love all the products I’ve tried, and the gel cream moisturizer is the absolute best. The cleanser is so gentle, I adore it!

  4. I just bought this actually! Hada Labo also sells through Amazon and it is currently $8.50 as an “add on” item.

    1. That sounds like a good price, Allie! I often buy it at Ulta with one of the $3.50 off of $10 purchase because I don’t have Amazon Prime. You did very well! I hope you like this cleanser as much as I do. It’s so gentle and hydrating. It’s my favorite. Thanks so much for commenting 🙂
