Halloween Beauty Spotlight Team and Assorted Snow Day Pix

Today, we had a freak snowstorm. We ended up with about 5 inches of snow. These pix were at the beginning of the storm.

Because most of the leaves were still on the trees, the trees suffered. Unfortunately, a major limb on one of my three Bradford pear trees broke under the weight of the snow. To make matters worse, it fell into the road and was blocking half the street.

I called the Department of Public Works, and surprisingly, they called me back. The man I spoke to said the guy running the snowplow would bring a chain saw. Instead of bringing a chain saw, he just drove his plow into the tree, broke the fallen limb off of the tree trunk and pushed it up onto my front lawn. I guess I should be glad that he at least did that, but I’m wondering what damage he did to my lawn, to what was left of the tree, and I’m really wondering how I will chop up the big tree limb. The good news is the limb didn’t fall on my house. I should be grateful for that.

Because the weather was so awful, it was a perfect day to stay indoors and cook. I made a big pot of bolognese sauce for pasta bolognese, the perfect cold weather dinner. I baked two loaves of bread: one loaf of cinnamon raisin swirl and a round sourdough boule. This was the first time I used a banneton, a round proofing bowl made from cane, that leaves decorative rings on the bread.

I am pleased with how it came out. And it tasted great!

This week, the Beauty Spotlight Team list of posts is decidedly smaller than usual. Either Halloween is a bigger holiday even this pandemic year than I thought it would be or our bloggers are busy phone banking. Whatever the situation is, there are only 4 posts. Still, worth a look!
