Halloween Manicure Ideas for the Nail Polish Challenged

I love nail polish, but applying it well isn’t my strong suit. I do the best I can.

A couple of the beauty bloggers in a group I am a part of, The Beauty Council, are doing a mini-linkup of Halloween manicures. Erika and Jessica are nail bloggers, and Honey is just plain creative, so be sure to check out their posts at the bottom of my post.

In spite of being mani-challenged, I did two easy Halloween manicures, a cute one and a pretty one. As you will see, neither is perfect and neither requires much skill.  😳

Candy Corn Mani

I thought about trying a gradient mani, but I didn’t have a lot of time so I did this freehand. I used Milani Color Statement Spotlight White, NYC Midtown Mimosa, and Nailtini Mai Tai to create the candy corn effect. Over my trusty Revlon ColorStay Basecoat, I did two coats of Milani Color Statement Spotlight White. Even though Milani claims one coat is enough, it is not enough for the white polish that streaks without a couple of coats. Once that dried, I painted a yellow horizontal band across each nail. Because NYC Long Wearing Midtown Mimosa was a bit sheer, I did two coats. Then I painted in the orange with Nailtini Mai Tai. That only required one coat.

I finished it off with a coat of NYC Grand Central Station In a Minute Quick Dry, an unbelievably effective product that cost me about 99 cents at my local CVS.

I’ve begun stockpiling candy for Halloween since in my neighborhood with lots of kids I usually need about 20 bags of candy. I wish I had thought to buy a bag of candy corn for the photos of this mani, but I didn’t. Although the lines are certainly not perfectly straight, I think it’s cute!

Halloween Sparkle Mani

As you may by now, I love glitter polish. In spite of my age, I haven’t outgrown it. These days, I think just about anything goes so I created a sparkly pumpkin-colored mani that I could wear with, say, a queen or fairy costume. So I used two coats of Zoya Elodie, an orange/coral crelly (cream jelly, I think) with a couple of coats of Rainbow Honey Sugarberries on top.

I loved the look. In the sun or bright light, it was incredible!

  1. I’ve been doing so well until I saw your post. I WANT CANDY CORN now so bad right now. I hate cutting down on sugar, I feel I want everything. I’ve been meaning to pick up an NYC quick dry, what is it comparable to? Should I stock up if I find it?

  3. Oh, I love the candy corn mani! So cute! I would love to do more nail polish designs, but ugh .. nail polish seems to take too long to cure and I’m never able to keep my hands still. I need to invest in a nail dryer .. probably one of those gel dryers to quickly dry my polish.
