Healthy Hair with New York Streets Hair Repair

My color-treated red hair is a big investment. I could take a nice vacation on what I spend to have it colored in a salon in Boston. So I try to take care of my bright red locks by keeping the color vibrant and the hair healthy.

To Prevent Fading

  • I avoid washing it too often. Every 4-5 days is often enough for me unless it’s hot and humid and I’m exercising outdoors.
  • I use color-safe haircare products.
  • In the summer, I try to keep my hair covered and out of the direct sun when I can.
  • I wash my hair in warm not hot water.

To Keep It Healthy

  • I try to eat a healthy diet.
  • I take biotin every day.
  • I use a soft, smooth Hubalou Hair Wrap instead of a terry cloth or microfiber towel to help stop my hair from sticking to the fabric and coming out. The Hubalou also helps absorb more water from my hair and reduce drying time.
  • I use either Arvazallia Argan Oil or Darshana Indian Oil as a pre-wash at least once a month.

I have a core set of hair care products that I like to use, but I recently had a chance to try a new after-shampoo leave-in conditioning/repair product. I usually use an anti-frizz leave-in spray, but instead I have been substituting a brand/product that was new to me, New York Streets Hair Repair.

New York Streets is an indie brand with a complete line of haircare products. I’m trying out the Hair Repair. After squeezing out as much water from my hair as I can, I spray on New York Streets Hair Repair, comb it through, blow dry my hair, and use my flat iron to smooth out my coarse hair.

Frankly, I was afraid to give up my usual spray for this new product, but I needn’t have feared. Not only does my hair look super-smooth after flat-ironing it, but it feels soooooo soft and silky. And it stays soft, silky and straight till I wash it again. Impressive.

New York Streets Hair Repairs tagline is “Restore. Strengthen. Protect.” and yes, it does! This is what they say about the product:

“Leave-in hair strengthener repairs and protects without leaving hair limp. Great for fine, weak hair. Wheat and Soy Proteins add strength and elasticity. Leaves hair shiny and smooth with great body and helps to reduce static.”

I love how it makes my hair look and feel. It doesn’t weigh my hair down or make it feel dirty before it’s time to wash it again. Love that.

New York Streets Hair Repair contains:

  • glycerin: a natural humectant that helps lock in moisture into the hair cuticle
  • panthenol: attracts moisture and binds to water molecules in order to moisturize hair
  • hydrolyzed silk: acts similarly to Hyaluronic Acid in skincare products by attracting and holding water, up to 10,000 times its weight
  • hydrolyzed wheat protein: helps keep moisture in the hair by creating a protective moisture barrier.

New York Streets Hair Repair comes in a 3.3 oz. pump spray for $21. You can check it out along with the rest of the New York Streets product line on their website where you can also buy it.

    1. I can’t believe that I used to wash my hair every single day. How and why did I do it?! And oils, wow. But this time, I didn’t use any oil and I was amazed that the New York Streets Hair Repair really did an awesome job! It’s a keeper

  9. I didn’t know you lived in the same state as me! (Or mb I did and I forgot lol I have really bad memory!)
I have been blonde most of my life but around 18-21 I used to go red or plum every once in a while. It is very hard to keep red (even blonde) from fading!
I’d love to learn how to wrap my hair so I didn’t have to blow dry straighten it…. I usually wash it (I found a great hair loss prevention, Argan oil shampoo/conditioner set) then do a loose twist at bottom and clip it up. It either gives me loose waves that I fix up a bit or it’s easier to straighten bc it’s smooth from drying like that.
I love that shimmering leave in conditioner product from sephora that you recommended!
If you want check out my review of that argan oil shampoo set 🙂

    1. Omg I didn’t realize the products unser the amazon products that say “products I reccomend” changed lol. I want to try that gold mine shimmering leave in conditioner so bad! Adding it to my Wishlist! Have you ever tried any of the NeoCell hair, skin, and nails products? I liked them a lot but they don’t have a ton of biotin…..
Caitlyn S. recently posted…$300 Target Giveaway- Instagram Giveaway- Easy as Pie! Ends 5/5My Profile

      1. Caitlyn, I love the NeoCell products that I’ve tried: HA liquid, Biotin Bursts, Collagen capsules, HA serum. I don’t recall how much biotin was in each serving of the Bursts. Right now, I am taking CVS biotin capsules, 5000mcg, I think. I am not familiar with the “gold mine shimmering leave-in conditioner” that you saw in the Amazon box – yes the products do change! But you’ve got me curious about it!!

    2. I live on the North Shore, Caitlyn. What about you? Yes, red hair is difficult to keep vibrant especially in the summer, but I love it. Your hair sounds beautiful, and it sounds like a great way to style it.

  10. I meant to also say Ive been taking the max amount of biotin (10,000 mcg) for a couple months and it’s helped.
If you want to check out my post it’s the one directly under the Target post from the “comment love”…. They had sent a small bottle of Argan oil (idk what I did with it though lol maybe I’ll put it thru before a wash like you do). I have super fine hair so I can’t take weighing down either….
Caitlyn S. recently posted…$300 Target Giveaway- Instagram Giveaway- Easy as Pie! Ends 5/5My Profile

    1. Biotin definitely works over time and with the max amount, you must be seeing stronger nails and faster growing hair. My hair grows so fast that I can hardly keep up with it, lol. I love argan oil and have a ton of it. I also love Darshana Indian Oil (similar to argan). I find using it on my hair a half hour to an hour before washing my hair works really well and doesn’t weigh my hair down. Another reason why I like the NY Streets Hair Repair: it’s a lightweight leave-in spray so my hair feels great but doesn’t feel heavy and greasy 🙂

      1. Allison – You look amazing! Thank you so much for mentioning Darshana. We are very happy to hear it’s helping your hair.

        1. You’re welcome, Shana! Darshana Indian Oil is my favorite hair oil 🙂

  11. Ugh I so miss having red hair! My hair was red when I was born and a little girl and now it’s more of an auburn brown. I have thought of dyeing it but yes it is an investment! Great post!

    1. Thank you, Ameerah! I think auburn hair is gorgeous. It is so darn expensive to have my hair professionally colored! Don’t do it, lol 😉

You have gorgeous hair so all that upkeep definitely shows! I’m glad you found a routine that works. I switch my hair up for the seasons so I’m about to go light again. That means time to change my producer line again too.

  14. Your red hair is stunning! I admit, I’m such a addict when it comes to my flat iron. I’m currently using a flat iron spray from a brand called euforia (the spelling may be off) and I can’t find it anywhere except at and old salon I no longer go to. So, I’ll definitely write this one down to give it a try, it sounds great!

    1. Thank you, Julie! I was using John Frieda 3 Day Straight for years, and I had good results from it in all but very humid weather. But the New York Streets Hair Repair really has made my hair super soft, smooth and very shiny. I got so many compliments today about how red and shiny my hair looked! I’ll take it 🙂

  15. Your hair looks amazing in that pic! I love to use leave in sprays and what not, but I struggle with finding one that isn’t heavy, doesn’t make my hair look greasy and actually works for my fine/thin hair. I think I will give this a try!

    1. I’ve had variations on this shade of red for many years, probably as long as you’ve been on earth. I was born a blonde, but somehow red suits me better. Your hair – color and style – is gorgeous, Anastasia! It looks timeless
