I’m still feeling good about ipsy. I got my July bag yesterday. The theme is Hot Summer Nights, appropriate for July.
The bag itself is cute, a metallic silver plastic makeup bag adorned with beach umbrellas.
I’m happy with 4 out of the 5 items that I received:
- theBalm Meet Matte Trimony Eyeshadow, an eyeshadow single in a red brown shade that’s a good one for me, deluxe sample
- Ofra Lip Liner pencil in Silk, “ballet slipper” pink – a very light pink/lavender shade that’s too light for most of the lipsticks I wear. Wish I got the other shade choice, Maya, a brick red that’s more my style. But I always wanted to try something from Ofra, so I’m glad to get it. I’ll play around with it and see how it looks with some of my pink lipsticks, full size $13
- Make Up For Ever Excessive Lash Mascara, a small compact wand that’s densely packed with bristles. I love MUFE so I’m eager to try it, deluxe sample
- Vasanti Professional Eyeshadow Brush: very soft, densely packed bristles. I’m always thrilled to get more brushes, full size $21
- Eva NYC Get Glossed Hair Serum: more hair serum, need I say more?, deluxe sample
The value of the bag definitely exceeded the $10 I spent on it. The two full size items alone are valued at $34. I’m satisfied!
Plus, a friend gave me a head’s up that ipsy had Hourglass Cosmetics products in the “store” that could be purchased with ipsy points.
I’ve been saving my points for just such an occasion. I scored one of the new Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Light Color Correcting Primers in Mood Light, a pink shade. I’m stoked to get it next month!
So that’s it. I’ve been more than satisfied with ipsy for most of the past year and a half. Conversely, I’ve been so underwhelmed with my last two Birchboxes that I haven’t even written about them. I like the theme of the bag. Too bad that Ofra lip liner is so light. I don´t use such a light color myself either!
Yes, that one will be a challenge for me to use but overall I’m happy with the bag

I got the moisturizer and I traded it off because I honestly don’t need more skincare. LOL! That said, I went and bought myself an organic cold pressed rosehip oil and a Vitamin C serum. Help and slap me, Allison…I can’t stop buying skincare. OMG…. LOL!

My bag hasn’t arrived yet but I’d be happy if I got what you did. Vasanti is a terrific brand so I bet the brush is great. I ordered the Hourglass too for next month. But for some reason I never get my points added on. I do the reviews to earn points but they don’t accumulate so the BHourglass will be my last bonus.
Have you emailed ipsy about the problem with your reviews not being credited? I’ve found them to be quite responsive in fixing problems. Nevertheless, I’m glad you’re getting the Hourglass Primer too!

I got my bag today, and I’m pretty happy with it. I got the same brush and eyeshadow as you. I also got the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Primer, which I had been wanting to try; ML Cosmetics (never heard of them) felt tip liner in Emerald Isle (yay! not black!), and Palmetto Derma (also new to me) Antioxidant Mask.
I’ve heard good things about the TF Hangover Primer, Rachel, and I would have looooooved the felt tip liner in Emerald, wow! Glad you got a good one this month too 🙂

Looks like a great bag for July Allison! I can’t wait to read your review on the Makeup Forever mascara. I’ve thebalm eyeshadow in my ipsy bag before and it was okay “meh” after using it for a longer while.
Great to hear from you, Sharon! You know, I am so in love with Mirabella Waterproof Lash Luxe Mascara that I haven’t been able to make myself use any other mascara instead so I still have tried the MUFE mascara yet. I’ve learned that mascara preferences are so individualized and what I love someone else may not. I like a wand with small plastic teeth to keep my lashes from clumping. I haven’t looked at the MUFE wand yet, but that brand often has big fluffy wands that aren’t my cup of tea, but maybe I’ll be surprised! Altho I was sorely disappointed in a stiff gold eyeliner pencil from theBalm, I like the eyeshadows so I think I’ll be OK with this one too. Because it is soooo strongly red/brown, I think it’ll be a good accent shade for me this autumn.
