How I’m Dealing With Maskne Even At My Age!

Maskne or acne that occurs from wearing a mask for extended periods of time can strike anyone, regardless of age or skin type. My skin is very dry, especially in winter, but that hasn’t protected me from getting the occasional blemish from wearing a mask.

I’ve mentioned a number of times that I enjoy taking long walks and challenging hikes with a couple of my friends. We wear masks, and after huffing and puffing for an hour or two, my face is wet and my masks is soaked. Ugh.

When I get home, I try to remember to wash my face with cleanser right away, but I don’t always get to it.

Just last week, I developed a pimple on my face just below where the mask sits under my left eye. Boo!

I reached for my trusty tube of Theraderm Reversion Spot Treatment PM (reviewed here). It contains a hefty dose of benzoyl peroxide, so it makes quick work of blemishes. I applied it two nights in a row, and the pimple was mostly gone. Check out Theraderm Reversion Spot Treatment PM on the Theraderm website.

Recently, I received a box of 5 Patchology Moodmask The Good Fight Blemish Preventing Mini Masks. From the Patchology website, it looks like Patchology Moodmask The Good Fight Blemish Preventing Mini Masks was originally created for young people to use to mitigate the ups and downs of hormonal acne. But now, enter masks that wreak havoc with everyone’s skin from time to time, and suddenly The Good Fight Blemish Preventing Mini Masks have a much broader target audience: namely everyone who wears a mask.

The Good Fight Blemish Preventing Mini Masks are saturated with tea tree and willow bark extract to fight pore-clogging bacteria, while peppermint soothes inflammation and slows the production of oil.

The Mini Masks are fairly mini. Instead of being a full face sheet mask, it is an X-shaped sheet mask that you can move around to cover the area where you think you need it most. Because there’s still a bit of a mark on my cheek bone where my recent blemish was, I used the mini-mask in that area. In fact, it covered most of the left side of my face. I was going to show you a photo of what the mini mask looks like on my face, but it is so lightweight and almost sheer that you can’t see it on my skin.

Next, I stuck my finger into the pouch that the mask comes in, and I scooped out the serum that was left in the pouch and applied that to the rest of my face. You’re supposed to leave the mask on for 10 minutes or more. It has a slightly cooling sensation (I hadn’t realized it had peppermint in it!), and it is gentle. After I removed the mask, I massaged the remaining serum onto my face, and it absorbed quite nicely.

Patchology The Good Fight Blemish Preventing Mini Masks are available singly or in a box of 5 on the Patchology website as well as at Ulta, LovelySkin.com, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, eSkinStore.com, and C.O. Bigelow.

Ingredients: water, glycerin, methylpropanediol, dipropylene glycol, 1,2-hexanediol, mentha piperita (peppermint) leaf extract, camellia sinensis leaf extract, salix alba (willow) bark extract, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) leaf extract, sodium hyaluronate, allantoin, butylene glycol, glycereth-26, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, sodium polyacrylate, ethylhexyl stearate, arginine, peg-40 hydrogenated castor oil, peg/ppg-17/6 copolymer, glyceryl acrylate/acrylic acid copolymer, pvm/ma copolymer, polyglyceryl-10 myristate, trideceth-6, polyglyceryl-10 laurate, carbomer, disodium edta, ethylhexylglycerin, fragrance

Between Theraderm Reversion Spot Treatment and Patchology Good Fight Mini Masks, I aim to get rid of all traces of maskne. And I’m hoping that Patchology Good Fight will help my skin ward off new blemishes from wearing my mask for hours while exercising.

Has Maskne hit you yet? If so, what do you do about it?

  2. Maskne doesn’t care how young or how old we are, and it is just awful! These sound like effective products. I have been using the Derma E Acne range of products on my chin for this very reason.
