Hubalou Hair Wrap Towel

A couple of weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to try a Hubalou Hair Wrap Towel, the kind of wrap you can use to protect your hair if you’re giving yourself a facial or using a cleansing brush or, most likely, instead of a towel after you wash your hair. I have been quite satisfied with the microfiber towels I’ve been using for close to 15 years, but I thought, what the heck, let’s see what’s new.

Here’s what the company has to say about their product:

  • “Made of sustainable bamboo fiber, the Hubalou Wrap minimizes heat dry time, prevents breakage and reduces frizz. The Hubalou Wrap is great for all hair types, and exceptionally helpful for naturally curly or brittle hair.”

Last week I received my Hubalou. It comes rolled up in a plastic tube.

I took it out of the tube, and unfurled it. It reminds me of the shape of towels for infants with the hood at the top for their head and then a square of fabric.

Hubalou-hair-wrap-towel It’s a good sized wrap with lots of fabric. The fabric, btw, is 100% rayon from sustainable bamboo so it’s soft, lightweight and environmentally-friendly. I tried it on with dry hair first, and it was easy to tie up.

Next, I washed my hair, wrung out the excess water, and used the Hubalou instead of my trusty microfiber towels. To put it on, you place the tag, which is at the bottom of the peak, at the nape of your neck. Then, gather up the fabric and twist it, and then tuck it in at the top. It comes with these visual directions.

For some reason, I found it easier to tie it up in a big pouf at the front rather than tucking it in toward the crown of my head as I did when my hair was dry and as they show in the directions. But it stayed nicely tied till I took it down to dry my hair.

The Hubalou gets quite wet and really absorbs a lot of water. The first time I used it, I had some work to do for a little while after my shampoo, so I sat with it on. My hair was quite a bit drier than normal. When I used it again yesterday, I left it on for a shorter period of time before blow-drying, and it still worked very well.

So I am completely satisfied with my new Hubalou. In fact, I like it better than my microfiber towels because it’s larger, and it stays on my head which is really helpful if I don’t want to dry my hair immediately. My hair is thick and coarse, and I do think it decreased my blow-drying time by a few minutes. I definitely recommend this product! It’s a keeper! Thanks Hubalou  😛

Hubalou Hair Wrap Towel comes in 4 colors/designs:

  • petal: a peach shade
  • slate: grey
  • plum: purple
  • twig stripe: beige/brown.

Mine is the plum shade, and I think it’s very attractive.

The price for the hair wrap is $24. Presently, Hubalou is available at only a few retailers, but they hope to be in more stores as time goes by. However, it is readily available online at:

Hubalou sells hair wraps with a convenient travel pouch for $35 which would be helpful if you bring your Hubalou to the gym. They sell hair wrap towel sets for bridal parties, and you can buy either 4, 5 or 6 at a time at a special group price. They also sell cleansing cloths that I think would be very soft and nice to use. You can check out Hubalou on their website.

What do you think about the Hubalou? What are you using to wrap your hair after shampooing?

    Good Morning!
For some reason the last pic of you with the pouf reminds me of I Love Lucy. 🙂 The fact that this hair towel has lots of fabric gives me hope. All the other hair wrap towels with hoods are always too small for my big head. This one gives me hope but the price is a little steep for me. Maybe a sale will be had in the near future.
P.S. I could not help noticing what a NICE complexion you have. *admires your skin*

    1. That’s so funny, Laura! I can definitely see the I Love Lucy reference! And thanks for the compliment: that’s my natural unadorned skin, lol, wrinkles and all! I agree that it is kinda pricey and there’s shipping costs if you only buy one. Keep an eye out on Gloss48.com because they often have sales on different brands. But size wise, it is very large. You’d have no trouble wrapping up a lot of hair with this baby. I should have included the dimensions. I’m not home now because of the snowstorm, but I’ll measure and update the post with the size when I get back.

  2. How interesting!

  3. You look SUPER cute in it! I have one that is made of microfiber and it realllllly absorbs water. I use it on my son because he has thick hair and hates the hairdryer. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Shipra 😉 I have several microfiber towels too that I like. This is softer, made from sustainable/eco-friendly bamboo, and much bigger than my small microfiber towels. Interesting to try something new!

  4. I needs! And one for my daughter, too… because she’ll steal mine otherwise LMAO

  6. My poor, ancient microfibre turbies are about on their last legs. I’ve had them for… twelve… thirteen years? Time for new hair wraps, methinks. These look really nice!

    1. Same with me, Erika! My microfiber towels are ancient, and stained from my red hair dye lol. This dark shade was a good choice for me too.

  7. I seriously want to try this. This type of towel is great for curly hair, as it doesn’t damage it or disturb the curl pattern.

  8. Love the larger size! Great for gals with really long hair. I also use the microfiber towels .. 🙂

    1. Yes, it is great for long hair or thick hair like mine. It is very soft, so it feels very different from the microfiber towels, since it’s rayon from bamboo. Surprised at how much I love it!

  9. I just added it to my wish list on Amazon. I always just use my body towel as my hair towel which is ridiculous because I have one of those huge oversized body towels. Hurts my neck nearly every time!
Krystal E recently posted…Zoya SageMy Profile

    1. It’s worth it, Krystal! It’s quite large which is good for me and my thick shoulder-length hair. Plus I can picture you using the big, heavy body towel. This is so soft, so lightweight, and it will help your hair dry faster 🙂

  10. How cool! I serious could use one of these!

    1. It’s a wonderful towel, Carleen: soft, lightweight, eco-friendly, and it does take the water out of my hair to help reduce drying time!

  11. This looks so much bigger than the turbie twist hair towel. I love the plum color! Thanks for the review!

    1. I was so surprised at how big it is. Great for long hair, thick hair especially! And I love the color too 🙂

  12. I absolutely need one of these because I know my normal towels are so bad for my hair.

    1. I think you’d like it: so lightweight, soft and very absorbent!

  13. That’s a really cute idea! And I love your lipstick 😉

    1. True, but the deep plum would hide a lot of color unless it’s blonde!

  15. That wrap is cute enough to wear out and about. I wear African head scarves all the time and they are so comfy and perfectly conceal bad hair days.

    1. Actually, the Hubalou website shows a beautiful African-American woman wearing it as a head covering. It’s a great idea

  16. I need this because I do this with my towel all the time but my towel is so heavy it always falls!

Jamie recently posted…#RedCoatTuesday: Essie Leading Lady Nail PolishMy Profile

    1. Jamie, I am too. It was easy to wrap it correctly the first time I used it when my hair was dry. Subsequently, however, I’ve just been twisting it into a big knot and it stays with no problem. I am spatially declined no matter how many times I look at the diagram, lol

  20. Looks super snuggly haha. I would totally use it!

  21. When I wash my hair, a turban is the first thing I put on out of the shower. Usually, I use a microfiber one, but this sounds awesome.
Nidia – Lit From Within recently posted…Rott’n StampingMy Profile

    1. Turbans are great. Actually this is the first one I’ve tried. The microfibers I’ve been using for about the past 20 years are all towels. But I’m amazed at how much I like this soft, lightweight but highly absorbent bamboo fabric. 🙂

  22. I totally want to try this. I think I need to buy it now!

    1. The dimensions on it are 23″ x 2 (doubled) wide by 29″ long, Honey. I know your hair is very long, but this might just work for you too. My hair is thick but should length and I have a ton of fabric to twist. Check it out on the website. You might like it. It’s so soft and the fabric is thin but very absorbent!

  23. This is perfect! I’m thinking I might just need one too 😀

    1. Marcia, I have never tried an Aqua Towel, but the fabric on this is so different from the microfiber towels I used to use. It’s a very soft rayon made from sustainable bamboo fibers. At first, I was skeptical about whether it was thick enough to absorb, but it absorbs like crazy! I really like it. I seem to have given up my microfiber towels 🙂

  27. My thick hair tends to love stuff like this!

  29. I saw your link on this yesterday on Facebook, and I’m glad I remember to find it again to comment! I’m very interested in this kind of product! I have curly hair and “plop” my hair (wrap it in a cotton towel) after I shower. It helps the curls to stay together and form better, and helps with frizz. I’d be very interested to see how this kind of cloth would stack up against what I’m using now, but I’m not sure if I’m willing to experiment for $24. LOL! Anyway, thanks for the great review!

    1. I know it’s a little pricey to take a chance. And everyone’s hair is different, so it’s hard for me to say it’ll work as well for you. But for my thick, coarse hair, it’s great. I liked my microfiber towels but they weren’t big enough to wrap my hair. Also, I never got used to the strange feel of the microfiber fabric. I love this super-soft, huge, absorbent wrap for my hair. Maybe someday, they’ll have a sale!

  30. I want to order something from Grow Gorgeous on Gloss48 so I’ll buy one at the same time. I’d like to try another material and this sounds great
