I’m Feeling Jaded with Chrome Girl 8-free Nail Polish

I haven’t worn any nail polish in more than a month because the Arizona desert also dried out my nails in addition to my skin. Truth be told, I forgot to take my biotin with me so it was my fault too. At any rate, my nails cracked and broke. Now that I’ve been home for almost a month and I’m back to taking biotin (I recommend tasty Natrol Fast Dissolve Biotin 5000mcg reviewed here) and using Barielle Nail Strengthener Cream (reviewed here), my nails are slowly, and I mean slowly, improving. I’m not used to my nails being so short! A couple of nights ago, I thought maybe wearing a wow, new polish would make me feel better about my nails.

Just before we left on our trip, I received a new-to-me nail polish from Chrome Girl. Chrome Girl was started in 2013 by two women friends who wanted to make a safer nail polish to use on their little girls’ nails. The brand is vegan, cruelty free, made in the U.S., and importantly, they are 8-free: free of Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate, Camphor, Xylene, Acetone, Silicone.

The folks at Chrome Girl sent me their new Limited Edition polish, JADED by EJ Johnson, a gorgeous almost metallic deep forest green. I’m a green girl, so this is a perfect shade for me now and again at the holidays. And the best part is that all of profits from the sale of JADED will benefit New York City’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, a non-profit organization that promotes independence and services to help young people get off the streets.

I applied the polish over a base coat of Seche Base. The Chrome Girl polish has a traditional brush that’s easy to use. I was amazed that my nails were essentially covered in one coat, but I put on another coat just because. I covered the polish with a topcoat of my favorite Seche Vite. For nails that have been through the ringer, I think they look quite good!

Today, I went to Boston to Vidal Sassoon Salon to get my hair colored, and I got three separate compliments on my nail polish from my colorist, my stylist and from the head receptionist. I’d say JADED is a winner!

  2. 8 Free?! Trust Fund Beauty is only 7 Free and I thought that was brilliant. This is the first time I’m reading about this brand so thanks for the intro, Allison.

ps: My nails are messed up ever since I live in Canada. I used to have super strong nails but now they are always cracked and peeling at the tips. I’ve tried everything; vitamins, nails strengtheners even consult the family doctor but he said I just need to grow them out. It’s so frustrating. 🙁

    1. I’d still say 7 free is pretty darn good, but 8 is even more amazing! Are you taking biotin, Shireen? I’m going to try doubling the dosage to 10K instead of 5K and see if that will help my nails get back to where they were pre-vacay

  3. Such a great shade! Love the new blog layout too.

    1. Thank you so much, Bailey! I just managed to wheedle the IT guy at the theme company to set it up for me. A couple of things need tweaking but I’m not sure how to do them yet!

    1. Yes, the 8-free and cruelty-free aspects of Chrome Girl are wonderful, and the fact that it covered in one coat pretty much and the shade is stunning is also good. I’m glad that I could help spread the word about the brand. It’s a keeper!

  8. Very pretty! I can’t wait to get a professional mani/pedi, my nails became so brittle during my pregnancy. BTW I like the new blog look!

Allison, That color is absolutely stunning!! I so hate being a copycat but I just have to have it!!!

    1. Allison says:

Not a copycat at all, Paula! If it speaks to you, you should get it. It really is a stunning, deep forest green that stands out all year round. ??? As I wrote, I got 3 compliments within a couple of hours ? And it covered so well for me. If you do go for it, let me know what you think

  11. That is a very lovely color!

    1. Chrome Girl was new to me, too, Ursula, but how nice to find a nail polish brand that’s 8-free. And I love the shade too

  13. Ooh – this is such a gorgeous shade. I have not heard of this brand but I love a good green and this is gorgeous. When you removed it does it stain. So many can leave a green stain behind.

    1. Chrome Girl was a new to me brand, too, but I love that it’s 8 free! When I removed it, I used an old jar of polish remover with the sponge inside and my nails and skin looked dirty but it was because I needed to toss the jar of CVS remover. I then took a cotton pad with Zoya remover and my nails were clean as a whistle. I probably should’ve gone right for the Zoya, but it was last and sometimes dunking & twirling my nails seems easier and it would’ve been if the remover hadn’t been so old and dirty

  14. I own several Chrome Girl shades and love them! This looks great on you!
