In The Category of What Was I Thinking? DM Colorfix Foils

In the spirit of Halloween and in the category of what was I thinking when I was shopping at Sephora a few months ago, let’s take a look at Danessa Myricks’ DM Colorfix Foils in the shade, Alien, a highly-pigmented cream duochrome in Rosy Gold foil. Although I have used it as an eye shadow, the color can be worn on the face or lips as well as the eyes. Definitely great multi-use color for Halloween makeup.

Since my childhood, I have always been a fan of pink as well as anything that sparkles. My mother dressed me only in pink for at least a year of my early life, and that color preference stuck with me. At about age 5, I used to sit in an empty bathtub (with my clothes on) wearing a faux crown with pink faux jewels on it (it was actually a metal pony tail holder) on my head making believe I was a princess in her chamber.

I must have been channeling those days when I decided to buy DM Colorfix Foils in the Rosy Gold foil shade during Sephora’s spring VIB sale.

If I decide to dress up as Glinda the Good Witch for Halloween tonight, I have the perfect eyeshadow for my outfit! The foil duochrome cream shadow is very difficult to photograph to show you what the shade looks like.

First, eye primer is an absolute must. Otherwise, the shade is almost invisible. Applying it over a base shade like MAC’s cream shadow Painterly (pale pinky-beige) makes it somewhat more visible, and it helps fill in the areas that do look invisible.

DM Colorfix Foil, shade Alien, is more of a multichrome than a duochrome: rosy pink, gold, and chartreuse. It’s glittery and sparkly. DM’s website describes the foils as having “a glittery finish and multidimensional pearls”. In the right low light situation, it’s sort of pretty. Unfortunately, photographing the shade on my eyes and even on my arm was close to impossible.

Squeezing it from the plastic tube onto my finger and tapping it across my eyelid is the best way to apply it. Don’t skimp because if not enough cream shadow is applied, it looks patchy and invisible in spots.

In case princess shades are not your jam, it comes in 8 additional foil shades. It is long-wearing and waterproof. I haven’t experienced any glittery fallout. This stuff dries down, but while I always wear eye primer, it is not drying or uncomfortable to wear. If your Halloween party goes late, your Colorfix Foil should last the entire evening.

Yet, removing DM Colorfix Foil is a cinch. I have found that it comes off with water alone.

Danessa Myricks has a huge number of Colorfix Foils in 7 “unique finishes”, 66 shades in total:

  • foils
  • bold color and pastel mattes
  • nude (skintone) mattes
  • metallics: full coverage with a pearly luster
  • sparklers: multichrome shift with sparkling glitter
  • glazes: glossy, translucent toppers or stand-alone gloss
  • liquid metals: highly reflective, metallic finish.

Each tube contains 10 ml/0.34 fl. oz. which should last anyone for a long time. DM Colorfix Foils are priced at $20 at danessamyricksbeauty.com as well as at Sephora., though online Sephora is no longer selling the Foils.

So I actually wish I had researched this line from Danessa Myricks before I made my spur of the moment purchase of Colorfix Foils, Alien, at Sephora. I would have gone for one of the metallics or mattes instead.
