In The Mood for Pink: Pink Lips with Maybelline Pink Pose Cream Color Sensational Lipstick

Mostly, I wear mauve for everyday lips and tips (nails). Somehow, mauve is an in-between nude shade that’s neutral but still has some color that keeps me from looking dead. But lately, I have been pining for pink. In some ways, I think it’s hard to find a good pink, even though there are about a million different shades of pink.

A couple of weeks ago, I had CVS Extrabucks and a Maybelline coupon about to expire. Usually I only go to CVS when I have to pick up a prescription, but this time, I wanted to check out the new CVS in Gloucester that’s so much bigger than the one I go to near where I live. Between the discount and the Extrabucks, I think I got Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick just about for free. The shade that jumped out at me is Pink Pose. Now that I’m far-sighted, I read the name wrong. I thought it said Pink Rose. It actually looks like my deep pink roses that are doing a second bloom right now, so I guess I had rose on the brain.

I bought the cream version of Maybelline Color Sensational. It’s made from pure pigments so the color is spot on, and it is very comfortable to wear because of the shea butter. It has decent slip on application, but it’s not at all greasy. In fact, it is very lightweight. It feels like a gel lipstick, like I don’t really know that I’m wearing it.

I find that it covers in one swipe, but if you really want to pack on even more color, it’s buildable. Though it’s a cream, it isn’t particularly shiny like Too Faced’s La Creme Lipstick. It looks more semi-matte to me.

Yet it makes my lips feel smooth and hydrated. When I looked at the ingredient list (see below), the first ingredient is lanolin oil and it also contains another form of lanolin. Lanolin is the key ingredient in one of my favorite lip hydrators for winter, Dr. Lipp Miracle Balm, so no wonder Maybelline Color Sensational The Creams feels so good on my lips. But for those of you who are vegan, you’ll have to skip this one since it not only is made from lanolin but also from beeswax.

An unexpected benefit is that it stays put quite well. It doesn’t leave a lot of staining: not much on a cup and not too much on the inside of a close-fitting mask. And speaking of staying put, it doesn’t feather or migrate into lip lines. However, if you want a really crisp outline of your lips, I would use a lipliner first.

The ultra-pigmented lipstick lasts quite a long time for a cream. I expected it to last just a couple of hours. But even after 4 hours, it is still very visible on my lips.

Looking at the Maybelline Color Sensational The Creams website, the customer reviews are overwhelmingly positive. It’s rated 4.3 out of 5 stars. The few complaints have more to do with not liking a particular shade that the reviewer bought than any specific complaint about the formula. However, there’s always one, lol. One woman was complaining that it wasn’t a matte. Duh, it’s a cream! But, Maybelline Color Sensational also makes The Mattes, so she must have grabbed the wrong one.

Maybelline Color Sensational The Creams comes in 40 shades, including at least 5 pinks: Pink & Proper that looks more like a hot pink, Pink Wink that looks like a medium pink nude, Pink Sand: a very light pink nude, Pink Thrill: a pink-purple, as well as the deep pink rose shade, Pink Pose, that I bought. The shades range from nudes, mauves, reds, plums, and corals.

The MSRP is $7.49, but the price varies widely depending on where you buy it. It was least expensive on Amazon, then at Walmart and Target, most expensive at Ulta and CVS, and at the MSRP at Walgreens.
