Ipsy “All You” Bag for November 2017

The Ipsy and Sephora Play bags have similarly self-focused themes for November. Interesting coincidence. As I wrote last week, Sephora Play was kind of a disappointment for me this month. The Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara didn’t suit me: I didn’t like the fluffy brush for my downturned eyes and the formula kind of made some of my lashes stick together. I know some women really like it, but it didn’t work for me. Let’s see how Ipsy did this month.

The makeup bag itself is navy blue faux leather and a jewel-tone teal fabric (alternate bag featured a harvest gold shade fabric). Utilitarian but still attractive enough.

Here’s what was inside the bag:

  • ColourPop Pressed Shadow, shade Come And Get It, a gorgeous pink/rose gold, travel size: I love this shadow. Smooth, lasting and the perfect shade for me. The alternate shade was gold.
  • Manna Kadar Beauty HD Perfecting Powder: a colorless mattifying HD powder in a handy purse size. I’ll definitely use this for travel.
  • Korean skincare brand SoRoCi Morning Drizzle Calming Cream, travel size: A nice lightweight, fast absorbing gel cream moisturizer from a K-skincare brand that I hadn’t tried. Has an herbal lavender scent. Nice.
  • touch in SOL Advanced Real Moisture Liquid Foundation SPF 30, shade Natural Beige, travel size: The medium coverage, lightweight, buildable shade is a decent enough match. This would have been great to put in my beach bag, but I’ll use it now too.
  • MAKE Lip Gloss, shade Abalone, a gorgeous neutral rose-mauve shade that I love for everyday, travel size: Perfect for me. So glad it’s gloss and not liquid matte lipstick.

Here are swatches of the foundation, eye shadow and lip gloss. The photo was taken in sunshine so they look warmer and more golden than they are.

This month’s bag give me so many products for almost a complete look – all but liner and mascara. I’m completely satisfied. Ipsy for the win! A gorgeous ColourPop shadow, beautiful MAKE Lip Gloss, and new brands for me to try. I also like getting the pressed perfecting powder – I don’t have a travel size. I’ll use everything in the bag. Although everything was travel size this month, it far exceeded the $10 I paid for the bag.

When I first published this post, I included some erroneous information given to me by one of the SAs at Sephora about points expiring at the end of 2017. Well, she was wrong, and I used up my points for nothing 🙁 If you keep your Sephora account active during an 18 month period, you’re all set.

  1. Did they change the points rule? I remember this same sephora points frenzy happening last year, but I remember it being from a lack of clarification. I think as long as your account is active your points shouldn’t go anywhere. Mine did disappear for a day or so when their system did something or redid something, maybe it was an update…but they all came back. I saw other sephora responses at the time say that the points only expire when there’s no activity for a year, so my understanding was that if you placed an order last year for Black Friday and haven’t purchased since, then your points will expire if you don’t make another purchase this Thanksgiving. If you’re a junkie like most of us are, your points should be safe.
I hope they didn’t change that! I’ll be mighty annoyed if they did!

    1. I got the same email that you did, Rach. I found what the SA said about the points expiring to be hard to believe, but she said the local management told the SAs this in their recent staff meeting. Still sounds weird. Nevertheless, I’ve had trouble with Sephora customer service lately, and I didn’t want to take a chance at losing my points even though they haven’t had anything that I’ve really wanted lately. I will change the post to put in a caveat to check with your local Sephora or customer service.

  2. That foundation is the perfect match for you, and it looks well-formulated. I think I’ve tried something from Touch in Sol from a subscription; can’t remember what it was, though!

    1. Although it’s a little on the yellow side like most foundations, it is close enough. I am happy to get to try a new brand that I had never heard of, and the travel size tube is so handy.

Monday…….Morning 🙋🏻☕️☕️ Looks like a really nice bunch of fun beauty things to try. The SoRoCi Morning Calming Cream sounds so nice, ahhh Lavender. Enjoy trying everything. Have a really nice Thanksgiving Day. 🍗 Hug’s from California ❤️💐

    1. Thank you, DiEtta! I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving too. Enjoy xoxo

  4. Shame that MJ Velvet Noir mascara didn’t work for you, Allison but mascara is soooo tricky! This looks like a really good ipsy bag and that ColourPop eyeshadow is really pretty. And what? I don’t think Sephora points will expire, I know they will if you are not active for a year as in no purchasing or redeeming, I got an email for that early this year.

    1. I hope she was wrong, Shireen, but she was adamant about it saying that they had told all the SAs this in their staff meeting. Since I had almost 1000 points, I didn’t want to take a chance. It did seem unbelievable that Sephora would wipe out everyone’s points at the end of the year, but their customer service has been so bad lately, I didn’t want to end up arguing with someone who didn’t care in the off chance that this is true.

  5. I liked this month’s Sephora bag. The products all suited me, but this Ipsy one seems like it’s better for the masses. The colors are all so perfect that they put in for the makeup.

    1. I’m glad you had a good Sephora bag this month. I’m hoping the holiday bags for both Play and Ipsy will be good ones. Yes, you can’t go wrong with rose gold and a neutral pinky-mauve.

  6. Sephora points will expire? I have 4000 and there’s nothing I want that they offer. That’s crazy since they offer bigger prizes. Oh well, my Ipsy bag was such a disappointment this month. There is nothing I want to use it in. I’d have been very happy with the ColourPop and Make but no such luck.

    1. Marcia, I forgot to ask again about the points when I was at Sephora today. It really makes no sense for them to disappear at year’s end for active accounts. The SA must have gotten it wrong. Oh well, I panicked and used mine.

  7. What a great month in the land of Ipsy! I love that ColourPop Shadow! Wait, what?! Are you kidding, I had no idea that our points expire at the end of the year! I have almost 3000 points! I haven’t seen anything that I wanted!

    1. Helen, I forgot to ask again when I was at Sephora today about the supposed points exporting at years end. It doesn’t make sense. Check with your local Sephora! The SA may have been wrong. There was nothing good for a lot of points – for 2500, there was a beauty consultation, ick.

  8. Ipsy is a real winner this month, MUCH better than the Sephora Play bags I’ve seen.

  9. I adore ColourPop eyeshadow! Their formula is so smooth and pigmented, love the price point too!

    1. Agree wholeheartedly about ColourPop!

  10. I have way too many points at Sephora. I really don’t like how they operate. I don’t want to be forced to use up my points when I don’t like the products in exchange for those

    1. I hope the SA at Sephora was wrong about the points expiring at the end of the year. I panicked, but hopefully everyone who uses their account on a regular basis will be fine. I agree with you about not wanting to use your points for stuff you don’t like or don’t need. I will most likely giveaway the MUFE set.

  11. I KNEW IT!!!! I knew I’d get the yellow bag and you would get the teal. I told my hubs, 50-50 chance and they sent me yellow, I’ll bet Allison got the teal!

    1. Yes, I saw that one online and was grateful that I got the bag that I did!
