ipsy bag November 2013: Bull’s-eye!

You’re sick of listening to me complain about delivery problems with my ipsy bag. Well, not this month! My November “Glam It Up” ipsy bag arrived within four days of the notification email on November 11. So that means it arrived in my mailbox in the middle of the month rather than at the end of the month after everyone else got theirs. This month, I was actually surprised by everything that was in the bag. I didn’t peek online before it arrived. I love to be surprised 🙂

And I pretty much love everything in the bag. It’s a combination of nudes, metallics and reds. Can’t go wrong with that! The bag itself is cute and blingy: metallic gold with hot pink lining — very me. It will go into my rotation of makeup bags.

So what did I get in my ipsy bag this month?

  • Starlooks Gem Eye Pencil: metallic silver
  • Be a Bombshell lip crayon: Hot Damn — bright red
  • Nailtini Straight Up Nail Color: Champagne
  • BH Cosmetics baked eye shadow: Aphrodite – deep red
  • em Michelle Phan lip gallery creamy color lipstick : nude
  • Pixi Beauty bronzer

I think all of the products were full size or super-deluxe (meaning big) sample size. My jaw almost dropped!

If video’s your thing, here’s my first YouTube video with me showing off my new makeup. I had to hold the camera, so it’s not exactly art LOL:

I thought I’d show you some swatches, too.

I think I’ll get the most use out of the Starlooks silver eyeliner, the Bombshell red lip crayon, and the Nailtini Champagne nail polish.

I like the feel of the Michele Phan lipstick: it’s creamy and lightweight. But nude lipstick is hit-or-miss with me, and this one is not quite a hit. I need either a little more pink or a little more peach mixed with the beige. But I think I need to give it more of a shot with full makeup. Finally, bronzer is not my thing, though I should try contouring my nose and jawline. So I will try it, and I have wanted to try a Pixi product and now’s my chance.

Soon I will create a look with the BH Cosmetics baked red eye shadow. I’ll use it with gold, and if I don’t end up looking like a Christmas decoration, I’ll share it with you. Hopefully, the red and gold shadows will create a festive holiday look. In the meantime, here’s how it looks with the silver eyeliner, but I’m still going to try it with gold.

For those of you who are new to ipsy, it’s a monthly cosmetics subscription service that’s $10 a month including delivery in the U.S. It’s also available in Canada, but I’m not sure on the price and shipping, although I think it’s similar to the U.S. Each subscriber fills out a survey about your skin tone, eye and hair color, age etc. so they can customize the products and shades to suit you. In each monthly themed makeup bag, you’re supposed to receive 4-5 products, usually a mix of full size and sample size. This month I got 6 products in my bag! And I think they were so on target for me this month. Plus, such a good value — my ipsy bag was worth well over $10. I haven’t totaled it up, but the Starlooks eyeliner alone is $12, so you do the math. 😉 If you decide to take the plunge, consider clicking on the link to help me earn a few extra points toward getting free products: http://www.ipsy.com/r/1zp5  Thank you <3

Thank you, beautycareforwomen! As you could tell, I was excited and pleased by this month’s bag. I will be wearing the lip crayon constantly 🙂

  2. would i wear red eyeshadow? no. it makes me look like a rabbit with
    conjunctivitis…but you look fab.
Loved your honey post. Have you tried th new Marc Jacobs honey/pear
    fragrance?

    1. Allison says:

Actually, Nancy, I’m always trying to get rid of my naturally red eyelids. I have blepharitis, lol. But hey, worth a try. As you told me years ago, I can always wash it off! No, I haven’t gotten a spritz of the new Marc Jacobs fragrance yet. His new makeup line is gorgeous, but I need a cash infusion before buying anything in the line. Thank you for the depotting idea. Coincidentally, I started a post on that topic back in May but I thought I should try it first and I haven’t been able to get my hands on a magnetic palette yet. Have a good trip if I don’t get to talk to you before you leave 🙂

  3. PRC = Peoples Republic of China 🙂

Loved your video! I’ve wanted to try the EM brand .. not the eye shadows as I think they are too expensive, but I do want to get the Chiaroscuro contour and high lighter stick.

Thanks, Monica! I’ve gotta check out the rest of the EM products. There’s a 30% off discount that maybe just for ipsy subscribers on the brand, so I figure it’s a good time to try it out. Unfortunately, the nude is a little too nude for me but something I can wear around the house. Thanks for explaining PRC. It came to me right after I finished recording the video, and I was too lazy to go back and redo it, lol. I think that this is the first time that I’ve seen Made in PRC rather than Made in China on a product. Seems a little sneaky!

  4. Oh wow love the Hot Damn lip crayon, just my style. Look great on you too! I actually have one red eyeshadow from MAC that I bought several years ago and let’s just say I haven’t worn it outside of my house! I’m not that skilled in bright shadows :).

Yeah, the Be A Bombshell Hot Damn lip crayon has been my favorite and most often used so far. I love it! I’m not sure that I’ll be wearing the red shadow all that much but I will give it a try with the BH Cosmetics gold and see what I can come up with — maybe add a little brown to the red? I still think this is my favorite bag from ipsy so far. If only they sent a color rather than nude of the Michelle Phan lippie, lol!
