ipsy Beautifully Bohemian Glam Bag April 2015

Although this was a good month, I think I’m most excited about the makeup bag itself because it is so different from any of the bags I’ve received from ipsy so far. It’s woven raffia, and it fits well with this month’s theme, Beautifully Bohemian. It does look like something from the ’60s. I also like that it’s a little larger than most of my ipsy makeup bags. My first ipsy bag that I received when I joined in July 2013, a clear hot pink plastic cylinder, is finally giving up the ghost after almost two years of duty in my purse. I think I’ll be replacing it with this new one!

What Did I Get?

Although I didn’t get the Too Faced Melted Peony liquid lipstick (it’s OK, I bought it myself last year) or the Elizabeth Arden lipstick that I would have liked to try, it was still a good month.

Here’s what I received:

  • theBalm NudeDude Volume 2 Mini Nude Eyeshadow in “Fit”, a light bronze shimmer, mini size single shadow from the NudeDude palette
  • Julie G Nail Color in a gorgeous mid-tone pink creme called Damsel, 0.35 fl. oz., full size, $3.99, plus a $1 off coupon for Jesse’s Girl or Julie G
  • Olive Lips Oats & Honey Lip Balm, 0.07 oz., full size, $5.95
  • Aromachology “Sophisticated and Sensual” Eau de Parfum rollerball fragrance, 5 ml sample size estimated at $6 (50 ml size $60)
  • Mally Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner in Shimmering Black, 0.04 oz. 1.2g, full size $15

I’m not sure how to estimate the value of the mini shadow from theBalm or the sample from Aromachology, but even without those two samples, my bag this month is valued at more than $31! Definitely a good value since I paid $10.

What Did I Think?

So did the contents of the bag this month suit me? By and large, yes!

I am a big fan of theBalm, but oddly enough I have never tried the shadows. So I was happy to have a chance to try out this bronze shade.

theBalm-Fit-NudeDude-eyeshadow

I’m also a big fan of Jesse’s Girl who makes Julie G Nail Color, but Jesse’s Girl is hard to find around here. So I am happy to get to try the Julie G Nail Color. I haven’t tried it out yet, but I’ve heard that the formula is fabulous. I heard one coat coverage!

I have always wanted to try products from Mally. Every time I go to Ulta, I give them the eye. Very nice to receive a full size waterproof eyeliner. My only quibble is that I must own about 30 black eyeliners, but that’s not ipsy’s fault! I should put this in the giveaway pile, but I do want to try it out and see how it does for staying power. I’ll let you know.

Aromachology “Sophisticated and Sensual” is a feminine, floral scent with notes of white lily, tuberose and grapefruit. It’s a lovely fragrance that’s sold at Sephora. Unfortunately, I can tell by just sniffing the rollerball that it won’t work with my body chemistry, so it goes in the giveaway pile! However, Aromachology does make an oriental, “exotic and spicy” scent that I would love to try.

Olive Lips Oats & Honey Lip Balm is an organic brand that is new to me. I think it’s sold on etsy. Who doesn’t need another organic lip balm?

What did you get in your ipsy bag this month? Were you happy with it?

As usual, if you don’t already subscribe and are considering it, I’d be thrilled if you’d use my referral code to sign up. xoxo

  1. You’re right, that is one of the best bag designs sent out by Ipsy. Contents-wise, you know I’m over the moon with mine lol. Exotic and Spicy sounds like another Aromachology perfume I need to try.

I love the bag ! -You’ll see me using it this summer!

As for you giveaway pile…don’t forget about your fav cousin..I could use a good waterproof eyeliner (if it helps me to apply it with my bad eyesight-that would be a bonus)

    1. I thought you cancelled your subscription, Lois! I used it yesterday (sorry! I always wanted to try something from Mally), but I have some other black eyeliners that I could give you instead 🙂

  5. I loved the bag too, it’s really pretty funky and great quality I don’t know why so many people were hating on it. I love the Julie G polish although it didn’t last through a night at work (not many polishes do) and the Aromachology was a pleasant surprise for me!

    1. I haven’t used the polish yet ‘coz I’m working in the garden, but I hope I get more than a day out of it! The scent was lovely but unfortunately not a scent that works with my body chemistry. I would love to try their Exotic & Sensual. I’m going to see if the Sephora in Boston carries it since my local stores doesn’t, I don’t think.

Hello! This month we didn’t receive the same bag. lol I got the nail polish and lip balm. I love the polish. The other products I received were the KCO lip stick (it arrived broken but they replaced it), the eye primer, and the other shade of eye shadow. Overall, I was happy with the contents and the bag itself was AWESOME. Of course, I’m kinda sad I didn’t get the Too Faced lippie. I can’t really pay $21 for a lip product I’m not sure of but, if I had a sample and liked it, I’d splurge for sure. Thank-you for sharing your bag. 🙂

    1. That so interesting, Natalie. Have you tried the polish yet? If so, how was the lasting power? Another woman said it chipped the next day, but I’m hoping for better! Love the shade. The KCO lipstick looked very nice. I like the color that I saw online. I couldn’t find the other shadow from NudeDude. What was it? Sorry you didn’t get the Melted sample. If you can, go to Sephora and ask them for a sample of Melted and see if it works for you because there’s a 20% off code on ipsy now for Too Faced purchases. The Melted shades are gorgeous. Unfortunately, the formula is a little too drying for me, but you should check it out and if it works for you, use that code 🙂

The other eye shadow was “Flirty”. It’s a pretty purple with gold sheen. Very nice. I haven’t used the nail polish yet but am sure I will this Summer. Thank-you for the Sephora idea. I didn’t know they would have samples. I’ll check it out this week-end. 🙂

        1. Natalie, you have to ask for a sample but they will always make one up for you without question!! Let me know what you think about Melted 🙂 I finally found Flirty on theBalm website. What a gorgeous shade! Enjoy it

  7. I wish I had subscribed, just so I could get this bag!! It’s so cute!! I also give Mally the eye whenever I go to Ulta lol I’m tempted to try her products, but can never fully commit to buying anything.

    1. Same with me, Vivienne. I’ll review it on my blog. I’ve only used it to tightline so far. And the bag is so cute. I was going to use it in my purse but I’m afraid it’ll get wrecked but then why save it?

  8. I love that they did a different bag this month. So fun.

    1. Definitely different from any other I’ve received to date!

  9. Oh I loveee the Mally eyeliners! They have such great staying power! I got her eyeliner library awhile back and it’s been fun playing around with all of them. I think I think prefer the formula of the matte ones to the shimmery ones (they last longer on me) but they’re all nice! I agree, I think I would have at least preferred to get a plum or something instead. Or a teal! How pretty would that have been for spring?

    1. I’d love a plum shade because I don’t really have that shade in an eyeliner and I wear so much purple eye makeup! Hope ipsy hears you!!

  10. Now this looks like a good box! Let us know about the Julie G nail polish. I just purchased a polish from her candy collection and really dislike the semi matte finish. The color is pretty and a top coat fixed the muted finish, but wouldn’t have purchased if I knew the finish was a dull semi matte.

MonicaP recently posted…Long lost pink sweaterMy Profile

    1. Oh, it doesn’t look like a semi-matte in the bottle! I hope it isn’t because matte isn’t my favorite either, and it’s such a great raspberry shade. I’m gardening so I haven’t bothered redoing my mani since my nails are getting wrecked.

      1. My Julie G. polish is from the Candy Shoppe collection with a “jelly bean” finish (should have paid more attention to that!). The color is pixi stick .. and it is a pretty color, just don’t dig the finish and won’t purchase more from this collection 😛

        1. Mine is Damsel, mid-tone pink creme so I should be good on this. That’s strange about the Candy Shoppe. Most jellies are still shiny, I thought, but maybe “jelly bean” is something different, though I’m sure I’ve eaten shiny jelly beans 😉

  11. You got a great bag and some great products! I love the Mally Eyeliner. I have one in a purple shade (i’m pretty sure) and it’s excellent! I also have a Julie G polish that I love. I don’t know why I don’t pick up more of them, but I just don’t think about it. I have to get better about nail polishes! Oh and I’m obsessed with theBalm shadows. I own several palettes that I love!

    1. Oh, wow, Christine, thanks for the good reviews on all of these goodies! I wore the Mally liner today and so far so good. I’ve been gardening so I haven’t used the Julie G polish yet. And I’ll be trying theBalm shadow tomorrow, I think. Definitely a good bag this month!

  12. Wow this bag is great! I like the bag itself, too!! I love the Mally liner and the JulieG polish is a gorgeous color! The lip balm sounds interesting.

    1. The lip balm is a good one. It’s organic. Not quite as hydrating as some others, but a good everyday better-for-you balm.

  13. wow, you got a great bag. I love Mally products. I think the Balm shadow is so cute, I just hope that little sample doesn’t get lost in the mix for me. Bronze shadows are my faves.

    1. So you haven’t gotten your bag yet? I hope you will get it. Another friends claims she received a different shade from the palette, but I can’t find it on the ipsy website. Hope yours doesn’t disappoint!

  14. Oh my gosh, that bag is so adorable! So much better than the tiny plastic ones they usually feature. I love theBalm eyeshadows! I recently repurchased the Nude Tude palette using some birch box points I had saved up. The shadows are so creamy and pigmented, I’ll be sure to feature a look using them! 🙂

    1. Oooh, I just looked up Flirty, and it is a beautiful shade, Marcia. I’ll bet it looks great with your brown eyes. I haven’t tried mine yet but maybe I’ll wear it tomorrow. I agree with you, there are so many choices. And every time that I think about canceling, I get another great bag. There just isn’t another service out there where you get so much for so little.

  17. The bag itself is super cute!

    1. After using the Mally eyeliner for a couple of days, I’ve got no complaints. It doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes. It doesn’t last forever on my waterline but then I haven’t found any liner that does. Definitely long lasting on my eyelids/lower lash line. So I like it!

  19. Never tried anything from Mally. I’m curious w/ the eyeliner because I have sensitive eyes…
