ipsy Floral Fantasy Glam Bag March 2015

I’ve begun measuring time in ipsy bags. I can’t believe another one is already here! And a spring-y one it is: Floral Fantasy in a pretty floral bag with painterly flowers against a cerulean blue background. Spring is supposed to start in a couple of days, and though it’s far from spring around here, I can dream by looking at the floral bag.  😆

When I first opened my bag, I thought it was meh. But after trying some of the products, it has grown on me.

Here’s what I got:

This month’s bag had two full size products and three deluxe samples. Without the price of the Vintage Illuminating Highlighter, my bag this month was worth $30+, well over the $10 I paid but less than last month. Still good.

So why did I say “meh”?

  • I was happy to get the NYX Butter Lipstick because it’s a great formula. Unfortunately, the deep raspberry shade is not my shade, and either of the other two options would have been better. I’ll save it for my next assorted makeup giveaway.
  • I LOVE the Boo-boo Coverup. It’s a full coverage concealer for acne, scars, bruises etc. so it easily handles my little bit of discoloration. But Medium is too dark and too yellow for me. Today I wore it under my Fair BB Cream, and it seemed to be OK. But I wish the sample was Light, but samples are never Light. This concealer seems like it may be worth buying and adding to my concealer collection. Unfortunately, Light doesn’t come in the “baby” size like Medium does, and there is no discount through ipsy on this product. Boo hoo, Boo-boo!
  • dr. brandt is a fabulous prestige skincare brand, and I love dr. brandt skincare. But with my dry skin, I don’t need or want mattifying anything in spite of the anti-aging ingredients. I will give it a try to check it out, and if it doesn’t work, I’ll try to gift it to a friend with less dry skin.

On the plus side,

  • I have been using the other pur-lisse cleanser that I got a few months ago from ipsy when I travel. I like the fact that this new one removes makeup as well as cleanses. I don’t know yet whether it lathers, but I hope it does.
  • I like the illuminator, and I’ll use it.

Do you subscribe to ipsy? If you do, what did you get and what did you think???? If you don’t but want to, I’d be grateful if you’d use my referral link.

  1. LOL about measuring time in IPSY Bags! It’s too bad that it was kind of a meh bag for you based upon ill-suited colors of the lipstick and BB Cream. They offered a nice assortment of colors, but when the colors don’t work, they don’t work. Beauty boxes should have a questionnaire about color preferences so that one could receive things that are more likely to work.

    1. They do have a questionnaire, but I don’t remember if there were questions about color preferences. They ask about skin tone, hair and eye color, but I guess it’s random regardless of the questionnaire!

  2. This is why I am apprehensive with subscribing to beauty boxes… They’re either hit or miss when it comes to color matching. at least what you got was worth well over the $10 you paid for it. That’s a plus.

    1. You’re right, Kim, that is the downside! I was hoping I could swap the NYX lippie but the girl I wanted to swap with used hers 🙁 But at least I got turned on to a great new concealer even tho’ the color’s not right.

  3. ohhhh I got a lippie from NYX too but haven’t peeked at the shade. I do love me some raspberry!

    1. If you don’t like your shade and want to swap, let me know, Brooke. I am not a raspberry girl 😉

      1. It’s a mauve shade called Pops but I love =\ Don’t hit me lol

        1. I’m glad, Brooke!! The raspberry shade is probably gorgeous, but I don’t wear deep purples too often and I have one from LA Colors that I do like from ipsy in October plus a lot of purples from Jordana and Milani. I will add this one to the giveaway stash 🙂

  4. OMG, that is too funny….measuring time in Ipsy bags. I totally get it! I got the same products you did this month. I have yet to try even one {hangs head in shame as I am sure I will receive the next bag before I do}

    1. That’s so funny, Jen! I pretty much try everything right away but I still haven’t tried the cleanser or mattifying lotion. I am saving the lippie either to swap for a different shade or for a makeup giveaway. The shade doesn’t suit me.

  5. My bag is late 🙁 I hope I don’t get the concealer or a deep shade of the NYX lippie, but I’d love anything from dr brandt.

    1. Just curious, why don’t you want the concealer, Renu? It probably should be a decent match for your skin tone and it’s a really good concealer.

  6. Why does Ipsy send fair skinned people medium products? I had that problem with them, too. No matter how many times I tried to tweak my settings and review, pale me received too dark stuff. Pffft!

    1. Yes, it’s a pain. Unfortunately, Boo-Boo Coverup doesn’t make a “baby” size tube in Light or Dark, just Medium. And I really like this stuff, but I’m not ready to plunk down $20 for another concealer just yet. 🙁

  7. Nidia says:

I got the same stuff in my bag. I love Hunk, but own it already, so I’m going to find a home for mine, too. I haven’t tried the other stuff yet. People seem to like the illuminator, though!

    1. I love the Illuminator. And I love the concealer, and I am so sad that the shade is too dark and a tad to yellow for me! Hopefully, both of our lippies will find a good home 😉

  8. nice products! I love NYX lip products 🙂

    1. I do too, I just wish I got a different shade 😉

  9. I had NO idea this was even an option.
    Looking into it now!

    1. ipsy is quite a monthly beauty subscription service that’s definitely fun for makeup and beauty lovers, Kathy! And at $10 a month including delivery, it’s a bargain. Now, there are subscription boxes for every interest, but this one is a good fit for my blog! I’ve subscribed for about a year and a half, and I still look forward to getting them.

  10. Looks like a good monthly box, I would be happy with these items!

    1. I think it was a good bag again this month. I am just complaining that the shades were off, but the products themselves are really good! And I’m glad I got introduced to Boo-Boo Coverup ‘coz now that I know about it, I can always buy it myself one of these days.

  11. I think the products look pretty fun to try out. It seems that Ipsy is a fairly nice sub service for the money 🙂

    1. The MU bag is so cute and springy. It is a good mix of products. I just wish the shades of two of the most interesting products had worked for me!!

  13. That was the shade of lipstick i wish i had gotten! I got the one called POPS its suppose to be a mauve, but on me it looks really rosey.

    1. Oh, boo! I wish we had known, Valerie, we could have swapped!!

  14. The NYX would be way too dark for me. I got the Purlisse, a different shade of NYX that’s a very cool dark pink, the highlighter, a Gilchrist & Soames body lotion and something that I don’t have a clue about – Evelyn Iona something. It might be a concealer but it doesn’t give a clue and i haven’t had time to go on Ipsy’s site yet. Normally the value we get is great – not so much this month.

    1. Yeah, I sometimes don’t know why ipsy does what it does other than randomness. I often wonder why we bother to take the quiz and leave our skin tone, hair and eye color, lol. I think the Evelyn Iona is a concealer. Oh well, I like the Pur-Lisse cleanser and the Vintage by Jessica Liebeskind highlighter is beautiful. I will put the NYX lippie in the giveaway pile, and hopefully the shades next month will be more on target for me!

  15. I don’t think this was customized to fit your needs. But to answer your question, I’m not subbed to ipsy

    1. I think that they get so many of each of the products and give them out almost randomly most of the time rather than to fit out shade profile. Oh well. I still like the cleanser and the illuminator, and I’m glad to get to know about a new full coverage concealer even though the shade isn’t right. It’s worth it for me to subscribe just for the blog traffic it generates 😉

  16. I don’t subscribe but thoroughly enjoy your reviews on it.

    1. I really like it but the shade is definitely too yellow for me. I wish it were sold in stores coz I’d love to try the Light shade.

  19. Natalie Brown says:

We both received the same products again. lol I’m very meh about them. I don’t like the smell of the Dr. Brandt product. Overall, I don’t get excited about skincare products though. Although, the shade of the lip butter is something I like. They do seem to send me all purpley type shades. I think I get disappointed because I see what other people get and know I would use those products more. Thanks for the review. 🙂

    1. That’s so funny, Natalie! I haven’t opened/used the Dr. Brandt product yet ‘coz I know mattifying is not something I need. I may put that in the giveaway pile along with the purple NYX lippie. I am dying because I would have loved either of the other two NYX lippies. I wish I could exchange it at a store but without a receipt the chances are slim! What did you think about the Boo-boo Coverup???? I really like the formula but the shade is so yellow. I wish I could get the Light instead!

      1. Natalie Brown says:

I like the boo-boo cover-up in the same ways you do but, again for me too, it’s too yellow/dark. I would have needed the light shade. I’ve been putting together a shampoo, conditioner, hair products, and make-up product bag together to give to a friend of mine who works at our local domestic violence shelter. They always need and get excited about things like that.

        1. Isn’t that a bummer that it’s the wrong color because it works so well! That’s wonderful that you are giving makeup to a shelter. I know they will enjoy the goodies!

  20. I got that same NYX lippy and I already had it in my collection so I’ll be giving it away in a giveaway I’ll be hosting soon. I liked the bag this month so far, it’s my last month… so just my luck they will start offering new brands now that I’ve quit. lol

    1. Well, it’s probably time to try a new subbie or just take a break, Honey. I think you’ve said you had trouble getting it delivered on time too. I keep it primarily because it brings traffic to my site when I review the bag. And I still think it is a good deal for $10 delivered.

  21. Too bad about the concealer, I can totally relate to medium always being too dark.

  22. As we already discussed on my Ipsy post… I wish I didn’t use my NYX butter lipstick because then we could have traded. I would have loved that color <3

    1. I like the illuminator, and I’m glad to know about the coverup in case I want to buy a new concealer, but yes, I’m a little bummed that they didn’t get my shades right at all. And I looked in my stash and determined that I got the Pur-Lissee Cleanser from ipsy a few months ago and haven’t used it up yet. Oh well, next month!

  24. Ipsy doesn’t seem to get us pale gals.
